It's hard to read articles such as this one and others about beheadings and church burnings and believe that this is 2006. I used to wonder how the Dark Ages could occur after the flowering of Greek and Roman culture, but no more.

"It's been written and spoken for decades about the Native American legends of the White Buffalo - and the prophecies" Uh, the Choctaw are not "plains indians" in origin and hence unlikely to have legends of "white buffalo".

Now that's what I'd say is a load of B.S. There hasn't been wild buffalo for 200 years, so where did decades of these "legends" come from. Oh I know, from this new age rebirth of Indian legends and "prophacy" (which never before existed) Besides, there were never plains buffalo there, just woodland bison- not quite the same animal.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but the legend of the white buffalo has been around for some time. I have two large framed prints in my office by Frank McCarthy featuring the white buffalo. One is shown here
In Pursuit of the White Buffalo. This print shows two Indians hunting the white buffalo during the fall. The sequel is named
Big Medicine, and shows the same two Indians hunting the same white buffalo the following winter.

Wow, thanks for posting those links. Powerful paintings, especially "Big Medicine." Looks like he's "hoary" with frost or snow. Very nice.
Would love to know what McCarthy thought the "ending" would be after the winter hunt. Kinda hope it was the same as the summer hunt! Thank you.

said it was fate that the white buffaloes chose one farm, which will likely become a focal point for visitors A white buffalo was born in Kentucky last year.

Rin Tin Tin!!! Wow....That's a dip in the memory bank.
But the most vivid memory remains: sitting by the radio and listening to the Lone Ranger and Sky King.

The "White Buffalo" was greeted by a group of Indians who danced around the animal chanting the old familiar Indian greeting song, "Hey ha wah ewe"! "Hey ha wah ewe"!

I forgot to mention this, but you will notice in the first painting McCarthy shows the buffalo herd gathered around the white buffalo as if they were protecting it. In the second painting the Indians have isolated the WB from the herd. He made that point on information which came with the print.

At least someone isn't afraid to say it like it is. There isn't any such thing as a "nature worshipping indian" around here either, unless they can get $50 bucks for a deer they pouch. Then they worship the deer, as long as the buzz from the crack lasts.... Which is the results, along with alcoholism, fetal alcohol syndrome and domestic violence of the government welfare system of reservations

Wow, how did they show the "clear blue of the western sky" on radio? I didn't know Skyler and Penny and the Songbird were on radio before TV.
