I'd love to see a MASSIVE tax on all politicians and political organizations for all the Barbra Streisand they put us through. I wonder if morons like al-Gore ever get tired of listening to themselves yak.

"Instead of discouraging businesses from hiring more employees it would discourage business from producing more pollution," Gore said.

Gore, you're an idiot. Instead of discouraging business from hiring more employees, it would ENCOURAGE government to declare more and more things as pollution (whether they are or not) in an effort to garner revenue.

this would simply accelerate the de-industrialization of the US. Correct. The Goron will just transfer the "pollution" and production to China, India and Mexico.

One more thing, If they are taxing Carbon Dioxide, anyone with a light truck or SUV or any transportation business would be hit hard with the tax. For that matter all vehicles produce C02, so anything with an internal combustion engine would be subject to it. We might have to get used to Public Transportation or riding bicycles. If Gore exempts consumers from his proposal, then he would probably pass the tax on to manufacturers who would just pass the additional cost to the consumer or like I said, move the manufacturing elsewhere.

We could suggest taxing stupidity, but the Dems would squeal about having to pay so much more in taxes.

So we dump the income tax and just tax oil/gas. What then happens when some smart guy figures out how to dramatically reduce usage? The country still needs some money for government. Where is it going to come from?

On July 8, 1947, witnesses claim an alien spacecraft crashed outside Roswell, New Mexico.

March 31, 1948, nine months after that day, Al Gore was born.

then I'd say that is a tradeoff worth considering.

Maybe, Only if he wasn't basing his tax on unproven, argumentably junk science.

"Global Warming" has not been proven and everytime our government passes laws to limit emissions, these repeated lies become 'fact' in the mind of the public. It is bad enough when the Liberal media does it, but it's worse when our own government gives it's affirmation.

Well ... at least the non-tax payers will pay then .. all humans exhale Carbon Dioxide ...

Gore is a dangerous, dangerous man ... I propose that, should he run again and (will surely) lose .. he has committed his "Three trimes you're out" offense and get the idiot off the streets forever.

"Throughout most of my life, I raised tobacco. I want you to know that with my own hands I put in the plant beds and transferred it! I've hoed it! I've chopped it! I've shredded it, spiked it, put it in the barn and stripped it and sold it!"

Okay Al, how about paying tax on all the pollution and lung cancer your tobacco caused.

The country still needs some money for government. Where is it going to come from?

If we make the income tax unconstitutional, it will have to come from a vat tax of some kind, again a far preferable tax from an economic/libertarian point of view than the income tax.

Just because Al Gore thinks of something doesn't make it a bad idea. Jerry Brown once proposed a flat tax, and it was a great idea then, remains a great idea today. Even a blind hog.... etc.

In the end, the libs would never go along with it. Half the population currently does NOT pay income taxes, mostly because their incomes are too low. The libs main constituency is people who take far more from this country than they are willing to give to it. A consumption tax of some kind taxes everybody, and the left would never accept it.

Put a CO2meter on everyone and tax them according to their respiration. Runners and atheletes would pay more. Couch potatoes less. Hopefully bloviating politicians the most.

Global warming global schwarming, who gives a rat's patoot why Gore proposed it. Anything that makes this country less oil dependent is a good thing. We are currently financing our own destruction. The income tax problem and the oil dependency issue can both be addressed in one fell swoop.

I wholeheartedly agree with reducing our dependence, but a tax is the wrong way to do it. I had some ideas in a post on a different thread yesterday talking about reducing our dependence on foreign oil:
