Boren's behavior is the real outrage
FOXSports.com ^ | 9/29/06 | Ian O'Connor

Posted on 09/20/2006 10:29:47 AM PDT by Buck W.

David Boren is a former governor and United States Senator. He's the current leader of a major institution of higher learning. He is not a face-painting, ref-berating tailgater; he only plays one on TV.

Boren is the Oklahoma president who called for the Pac-10 officiating crew that blew two critical calls in the Sooners' loss at Oregon to be suspended for the season. Boren also wrote to Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg asking for his school's defeat to be expunged from the record books.

Boran's idiocy aside, don't people realize what a terrible precedent this would set for sports in general if they DID expunge the game from the records?

If incompetence was the criterion for getting rid of referees, what would the Ivy League and the ACC do for officials if that happened?

The 'Canes won't be doing any more pre-game stomping on logos this year, that's for sure.

"Thank God Donna Shalala's Miami Hurricanes are now unranked. Ha Ha!"

I had forgotten that she is the president. There is some justice in the world.

He may be over-hyping it a touch, but in principal, he's got a point. Not only did the refs on the field blow it on the onside kick, but the replay officials ALSO blew it when there was, IMHO, incontrovertable proof that the call was wrong (i.e. the ball did not travel 10 yards before the kicking team touched it FIRST, a clear violation).

Interesting that the officials already have been suspended for one game by the governing bodies (NCAA or Pac-10, I forget who).

Boren wasn't calling for the game to be expunged from the record books because of incompetence on the part of the game officials. The basis of his complaint is his assertion that the officials willfully ignored the rules of the game in blowing two critical calls -- even after these plays had undergone a video review under the NCAA's instant replay rule.

I have no idea how sound or idiotic his suggestion is, but the NCAA ought to take this kind of situation very seriously. Tolerating this kind of sh!t in a game seriously blurs the line between a "competitive sport" and a "staged event" -- and could ultimately relegate college football to those silly entertainment events like WWF wrestling.

Boren is an idiot.

He didn't even recognize an attempted muslim terror attack when it occurred on HIS CAMPUS!

Typical Democrat.

I say of College Football what I say of Democrat dirty tricks. If it's not close, they can't cheat.

I'm all for this. Next we can expunge the 1982 Penn State-Nebraska game and award the Huskers the national championship they got screwed out of that day.

The NCAA is the ruling party and the poofer loving former Democrat spokesperson should let them make the decision and stay out of it. A couple of years ago the ACC had a crew that absolutely blew several important calls during a controversial game and that crew was evaluated and corrected by the ACC itself. I have a close friend that is an ACC official and after that game those officials were evaluated and not allowed to work again. That is the way it works and no mud shark politician has any right to stick his or her nose into the process. I am sure the PAC 10 will take care of the issue adequately and correctly.
