Skip to comments.Allen tells of his Jewish heritage ('foot-in-mouth' troll zotted again)

He said his grandfather's incarceration by the Germans had a profound effect on his mother; that because it was a painful memory, it was almost never discussed. "Some may find it odd that I have not probed deeply into the details of my family history, but it's a fact," Allen said in his statement. Speaking with The Times-Dispatch, Allen said the disclosure is "just an interesting nuance to my background." He added, "I still had a ham sandwich for lunch. And my mother made great pork chops."

His comments are quite bizarre, to see the least. Why does he need to use 'ham sandwich and port chops' as metaphor to distance himself from his Jewish heritage? This is gettint really weird.
The MSM is setting up the trap for Allen, his response yesterday was terrific, but he is just unable to stop this 'foot-in-mouth' disease.
Thanks God, we know sooner rather than later, he is not ready for prime time.
This isn't the correct title.
Why is this foot-in-mouth? it was a stupid no win question he handled it fine and my guess is there will be a backlash for him.
If you're going to quote an article at least use the correct title, with YOUR comment in parenthesis.
I don't get it, where is the offensive part?
Here's an idea...why not go to conservative websites and post articles that make it appear that you're a conservative and questioning your own candidate for the sake of the party or the nation or all humanity? Wouldn;t that be really snarky?
Hey, I didn't post it.
You stink junior...

Most NEW freepers wait until they get the decoder ring sent to them with the secret code for posting.
Why do you guys hate the JOOOOS?
I don't understand why anybody would get upset over what he said. It's just a case of the media trying to make a story.
However, the whole purpose of exercises like this are establishing how the candidate works under pressure.
Welcome to FreeRepublic.
Not so cute, troll.
dude he lives in Virginia for god's sake
they eat lots of pork chops and make a damn good Virginia ham
that statement will pick up votes
Welcome to FR newby
does indeed look like a media hit. Allen's comment was equally stupid though. running from his heritage? nah. he claims not to have known. my question is if his mother knew this, and knew he had political aspirations, why didn't she tell him eariier?
Here's a thought - there's a lot of fear over George Allen as a potential presidential candidate so it's important to convince conservatives that he can't win. Here's another thought - you ain't that clever.
Go back to Raising Kaine, Lowell.
This guy doesn't know the rules. He intentionally is trying to make Allen look bad when the article doesn't do that at all.
I smell a troll.
George Allen isn't running around with a yarmulke on his head, or, on the othe hand, rejecting the idea that he has Jewish roots. He simply was responding to the question.
Sounds as if he's being honest about the fact that they ate pork. I'm more upset about his use of the word, 'nuance'. John Kerry claimed to be Irish for years and years because of the Ma. Irish vote. Then he suddenly discovered his grandfather was Jewish right before he started running for President. He claimed he never knew. Big fat liar.
No prob. I should have alerted the administrator myself.
Hey Webb, shouldn't you be out denigrating women and Jews rather than posting foolish threads on Free Republic?
Last I heard the Democrats were conducting a, "Are you a Jew" campaign in Virginia.
Do you guys really think that type of bigotry is going to work?
And a relative newbie, as well.
I smell ozone...
pork and ham are not sth Jews eat. That's why i feel it's bizarre that he would volunteer such an answer.
I don't even see this as problem except to the same hypersensitive folks who were all over him about his "macaca" comment.
If you are waiting to be offended by George Allen, I'm sure ANYTHING will do.
If he is, indeed, part-Jewish, does this not innoculate him from charges of snti-Semitism? Wasn't that the whole point of Hillary finding some Jewsih ancestry?
Have you noticed how NRO and The Corner are out to tear down Allen?
I am starting to become a fan of his again.
OMG, that's my cat on your Ipod. His name is Phil McCracken, and he glares at me just like that when I don't feed him right away!
I wonder if you were as offended when Hillary the Phony pretended to have Jewish roots in a pathetic attempt to pander for Jewish voters in New York as you are by George Allen appropriately defending his mother's honor and merely saying his identity now is in his Christian identity, while as he says he embraces his Jewish heritage? Somehow there's something offensive in this?
Funny isn't it a Democratic president diddling the help in the Oval Office is a "private matter," but a man's family roots and his mother are all fair game, right? I guess privacy is a right only granted based on one's party affiliation.
He was heck to download.
I'm afraid she's right, newbie. I think your sensitivity meter needs a skotch of adjusting! ;o)
But, hey, if you aren't really a troll, welcome!
I promised Corin I will not rip Allen till after he wins...and he will win in Nov.
But then the gloves are off.
Wow, tough crowd.
That's what I wanna know!
"George Allen is really not ready for prime time. After an excellent smack down on MSM and Webb's slimey campaign yesterday, I just don't quite understand why he made these following stupid comments."
This is why we have primaries. I personally don't think a few comments can disqualify a candidate.
The substance of the candidate is, what are the candidate's views on issues? What will be his/her policies? What is his/her character?
My current rating of potential Republican candidates for POTUS is:
1. Jeb Bush
2. George Allen
99. Mit Romney
Allen's best response to that would be something like "I'm not Jewish enough to feel guilty about not keeping Kosher, but I am Jewish enough to be hated by anti-Semites."
Who says? Conservative and Orthodox don't touch it but the moderate/secularists do.
