they know Repubs are going them to hit them hard when it comes to the immigration issue.

Huh? When do Republicans hit them hard on anything? All that whining that the GOP was "questioning the patriotism" of Max Cleland because of his votes on Homeland Security has cowed our strategists for the next generation or two. Someone might call them mean-spirited or something.

I see that Hawaii doesn't care if we build a fence.

Soemthing tells me this will go nowhere except to empower all those lovely Senaturds to say "I voted for the Fence."

You're probably right. But we'll remind them they voted for amnesty.

Huh? When do Republicans hit them hard on anything?

We need another party, one really focused on this issue. But because the polity is divided on everything else, we won't get one. People can't decide that border security is at least as important as being for or against abortion, marijuana, or charter schools. So, a "protect the country" focused party that is agnostic on these other issues won't pick up the votes.

So slimy, these pukes.

Don't give us the real thing, give us crumbs.

How about we virtually vote for them?

Locking the barn door after the horses got out of Mexico! A limp gesture to influence the coming vote? This won't do it, fellas. Congress has lost it's credibility.

Uh no. It is a good first step, gets us closer to a full fence, establishes a precedent that can easily demonstrate the effectiveness of a fence, and reduces the number of hurdles future sessions will have to get over to finish the job. Just like the first states to roll back gun control mesures led to other states following suit. Nowadays in most states even the Dems don't run on stricter gun control.

Not that anyone expected the professional bitch and moaners here to ever acknowledge progress. We darn sure wouldn't have gotten even this much with a Dem congress, and anyone who would cite this as a reason to sit out the election/vote 3rd party and let the Dems take power is a complete fool.

Thats a great idea.

As long as the money isn't just a line on the general budget, but a sequestered account, with no provisos for "borrowing".

"(b) Operational Control Defined- In this section, the term `operational control' means the prevention of all unlawful entries into the United States, including entries by terrorists, other unlawful aliens, instruments of terrorism, narcotics, and other contraband."

I can't help wondering how much the possible impairment of the flow of narcotics has hindered progress toward closing the borders.

Lets hope they listen. Anytime something passes XX-O I know its full of hot air and "comprehensive" legislation.

`(C) EXCEPTION- If the topography of a specific area has an elevation grade that exceeds 10 percent, the Secretary may use other means to secure such area, including the use of surveillance and barrier tools.'.

A ten persent grade isn't much at all. That make this a huge exception.

Okay, so I understand this version/bill has already passed the House? Now, the Senate is moving to vote on it? And it looks like it will pass the Senate? Next question. Will Bush sign it? He better.

Apparently, Boeing has been awarded a contract to secure the border with 1800 "hi-tech" towers". Don't how this fits in with a fence:
