And, if noone is there to see it, did it happen ?
I didn't capitalize "pope" because I'm not a Roman Catholic.
You capitalized Islamofacists.
Does your reasoning hold true and so it is safe to say that you are an Islamofacist?
Hillary's just flapping in the political wind like her husband always did
Your logic, grammar, and punctuation are horrible.
What does capitalizing the word "pope" have to do with someone being an Islamofascist?
"Hillary's got Benedict XVI's back"
I've always known Hillary was behind me. I've felt her there many times!
What does that have to do with anything?
Incorrect. The man's name is Pope Benedict XVI. "President" is a title. "Pope" is not.
Pretty funny coming from someone who fails to use correct capitalization because he doesn't respect an honest man.
My point was that you capitalized the word Islamofacist!
Nope, I never used the word. You have me confused with someone else.
No. The Hildebeeste doesn't crap at all ... that's why it's so full of crap.
> Incorrect. The man's name is Pope Benedict XVI. "President" is a title. "Pope" is not.
I'm speaking of the usage "the pope", not "Pope" as a name, or "Pope Benedict". The latter two are "proper" names, thus capitalized as you say. The usage in the headline of the article was the non-"proper" description, which is distinguished by the use of an article ("a", "the") before the word.
The same distinction is true of, for example:
"my father" vs. "Father"
"the earth" vs. "Earth"
The only exception I'm aware of is for the Trinity, as in "Our Father, Who art in heaven..." because all references to the deities, even pronouns, are capitalized. However, I do not believe that applies to humans, even highly elevated ones.
Thus, as a name: "Pope", but as a description: "a pope" or "the pope".
Now, that said, there may be an authoritative language usage reference somewhere that spells this out, which I haven't got right to hand. I took a quick look at the Vatican's website but didn't find a "correct usage" post. If you find an authoritative reference, let me know, I'd be happy to learn. FWIW, Wikipedia backs me up, but I don't consider that authoritative enough for this discussion.
Actually, Wikipedia is inconsistent on this subject. Never mind them. Let's find an authoritative source. If I'm mistaken I wish to correct my usage.
That's good to know. The Catholic Church referrs to "popes" and "the Pope." Therefore that is the correct usage, just like "Madonna" has every right to give herself whatever name she feels like ("Whore" would have meen a better choice imho).

To spell it out for you. You did not capitalize 'pope' because you are not Roman Catholic.
You did capitalize 'Islamofacist' Does that mean that you ARE an Islamofacist?
(Not only is my logic, grammar (no comma after and) and punctuation horrible, my ability to follow a thread is also in question!)
Titles of high officials are capitalized when they are used in place of the officials name...So I think I yield on this one.the President of the United States vs. the president of the club
the Prime Minister vs. the judge or a lawyer
the Pope vs. the minister or a priest
You are correct. I followed the wrong thread!
Sorry! :>(
She's running alright. Expect a lot of "Sistah Souljah" moments from Hillary.
