Texas Candidate Accused of Racist Crack ( Kinky Friedman )

Gubernatorial candidate and professional wiseacre Kinky Friedman was accused Wednesday of making another racially offensive remark _ this time in a year-old interview in which he said sexual predators should be thrown in prison and forced to "listen to a Negro talking to himself."
The independent candidate already was under fire for referring to Hurricane Katrina evacuees in Texas "crackheads and thugs." ...
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and the Houston Chronicle have reported on an interview with Friedman that aired on CNBC last year in which the country singer and comedian was asked what to do with sexual predators.
"Throw them in prison and throw away the key and make them listen to a Negro talking to himself," Friedman said. He also called "Negro" a "charming word."
State Rep. Garnet Coleman, former chairman of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, said the remarks are unacceptable from a candidate for governor, and sound more like something uttered by someone running for "class clown or the grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan."

Mel Brooks once said (and I'm paraphrasing) "I can say anything I want . . . I'm Jewish."
Same for Kinky.

If Kinky tells his critics to pound sand, I'll respect him a little.

And the qualifications for governor would be . . .?
Rick Perry's sole claim to fame is that he has nice hair.

I am staying out of the fray !
Perry ?
Granma ?
Kinky ?
Chris Bell ?
Texas has no choice. ( you can always write in my name ) but we still have no choice. I'm afraid Granma is gonna put Bell in office.

"In a new SurveyUSA election poll conducted for KEYE-TV Austin and WOAI-TV San Antonio, Perry leads with 35 percent of the vote against three other candidates." "Chris Bell (D) and Kinky Friedman (I) are tied for second, with 23 percent each, and Carole Keeton Strayhorn (I) trails the pack with only 15 percent."
I wouldn't feel too comfortable if I were only running 12 points ahead of Kinky Friedman.
To: Dov in Houston
I'm afraid Granma is gonna put Bell in office. Nonsense. The anti-Perry vote will be split between three other candidates.
Believe me, I'm no fan of Governor Big Hair, but the demographics of this state and this race are almost fool-proof for Perry.
Of course, he could screw it up on his own. He is, after all, an Aggie.
To: Dov in Houston
You may be right.
Have you seen the Bell commercials? This guy makes Mr. Rogers look like a swinger! Can you say "milquetoast"?

Okay,...... Who do you think put this out there?..... You maybe correct and to some degree I agree with you. My thought is that Bell and the democrats are trying to shut down the Joker as he is tapping into their liberal vote base and causing Bell to show bad in both the polls and maybe the election itself.

I'm leaning toward Perry. Make no mistate about that. But Kinky is no liberal. This is an important fact that we must not lose sight of because Kinky has a lot of populist support and support among Reagan Democrats and Kinky's support is good evidence that a true conservative could rise up on the right of the RINOs we are inflicted with. I'm not saying that Kinky is that guy (maybe Dan Patrick is) but there is room in Texas for a conservative populist rising up on the right flank of the GOP.
To show that Kinky is no liberal, let me offer the analysis of another:
Watch
this video clip. It is hilarious, it is true, and it is politically incorrect as hell. Liberal politicians are too politically correct to admit the truth that "negro is a charming word." Whatever Kinky is, he's NOT a liberal.
Next, read up on Kinky's
get-tough illegal alien plan and his
5 Mexican generals plan. Kinky's common sense border security plan is the straight up "minuteman" approach, not Perry's namby-pamby "let's set up cameras" approach. Make no mistake, Kinky is the only candidate brave enough to say we need armed military generals on our southern border. This is not a liberal plan.
Now consider Kinky's party affiliation. Kinky has
run for office in the past as a Republican and he
voted for Bush/Cheney in 2004.
Here is an excerpt from Kinky's interview with Ruminator magazine confirms that he
supported Bush's Middle East foreign policy:
Question: So does this idea of the honorable cowboy have anything to do with why you threw your support behind President Bush in this last election? You did, didnt you?
Kinky: Yes. I did in this last election, but I didnt vote for him the first time.
Question: Who did you vote for in 2000?
Kinky: I voted for Gore then. I was conflicted. . .but I was not for Bush that time. Since then, though, weve become friends. And thats whats changed things.
Question: So its your friendship with him thats changed your mind about having him as president more than his specific political positions?
Kinky: Well, actually, I agree with most of his political positions overseas, his foreign policy. On domestic issues, Im more in line with the Democrats. I basically think he played a poor hand well after September 11. What hes been doing in the Near East and in the Middle East, hes handling that well, I think.
Now maybe you are like me and you were worried that Kinky showed liberal tendencies by voting for a tree-hugger like Al Gore. Well, rest assured that Kinky was mistaken when he said that. Kinky's
public voting records confirm he didn't vote for Al Gore in 2000 because Kinky didn't waste his vote on any candidate from 1994 to 2004 when he voted for Bush/Cheney.
Maybe you think Kinky's a liberal because he's a Jew. Rest assured, Kinky's views on religion are well to the right of Perry's. Kinky wants to take time during the school day for
prayers in schools, and he wants to
post the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms.

You hit the nail right on the head.
The attacks against Kinky are by Democrats desperate to drive independent voters away from Friedman and hopefully toward Bell!
To: altura
I have lived in Texas for a number of years. I hope that Kinky wins for only one reason, BOTH of the political parties in the US, Repubs and Dems are basically the same.....the repubs have better suits and better haircuts. There are fringe groups in both parties and in todays political atmosphere they both think they have a God given right to run this country, Kinky would upset their apple cart and hopefully make them both realize the this country is run by a tax and spend set of parties that need to look outward instead of inward.
