The Truth About Mohammed... From the Book That CAIR Didn't Want to Be Sold!
1912 | Rev. J.L. Menezes

Posted on 09/21/2006 8:24:09 PM PDT by Pyro7480

His [Mohammed's] many and cruel executions, his craftiness in planning and allowing assassinations, his treachery, in his attacks on the unarmed during the sacred months, his insatiable hatred towards Jews and Christians, his raids and highway robberies, distinguish him among the most notorious brigands, and make him a tyrant of no mean degree. His unimaginable cruelty as well as the debauchery of his private life, go to show in him a very great degree of moral degeneracy and height of self-delusion, which are scarcely compatible with the practical wisdom of many of his actions.

We find him, after his early struggles and the commencement of his preaching, constantly imbued with fatalistic ideas; he believed in predestination, he had many superstitious beliefs and was guided by omens and prognostications. His many inward struggles, his moral debates, and his aspirations seemed to him the very voice of God speaking to him. Although he pretended to denounce idolatry, and to preach the worship of the one true God, still his conduct towards the Kaaba and the superstitious practices he ordained to be practised there, his veneration of the black stone at Kaaba; his superstitious belief in the water of Zem Zem well, all make us doubt whether he really denounced idolatry generally or denounced only such idolatry as did not meet his taste.

However, his denunciation of idolatry on the whole, his preaching the one true God, the equality of man before God, his precepts of charity and fraternal love; his injunctions forbidding the use of liquor and other spirits as well as of the practice of usury to his followers, really distinguish Mahommed [sic] honourably as a great religious teacher; though on the other hand his sensuality, deception, cruelty and intolerance stain the Prophet's life to the highest degree and prove him to be both an erring mortal and in no sense an infallible model of conduct.

It is simply astonishing to see over 180 millions [in 1912] of the people of the globe, quite ignorant of the true life and character of the Prophet of Islam, blindly and fanatically profess the religion taught by the Prophet besides promising them heavenly paradise after death, gives them full scope in this world to lead a life as easy as one could desire and to satisfy their sensual pleasures to the highest imaginable degree.

"What's wrong with usury and drinking booze?"

Nothing. Some people don't have the self control to manage their booze or their finances so some religions ban them. They are religions for lazy stupid people.

"such reasons could include the risk of loss, the time value of money in the modern economy, etc."

Which means there is nothing wrong with Usury because money usable now is always more valuable than money usable tomorrow, and no one who lends money can ever be sure it will be paid back.

"This did not, as some think, prevent investment. What it stipulated was that in order for the investor to share in the profit he must share the risk. In short he must be a joint-venturer."

What does the partner who does not invest money in the project risk? Nothing. Therefore, according to your argument he is not be entitled to any of the profit.
All I can say is St. Thomas Aquinas was a world class moron.

I'm pretty sure that a Muslim could come up with the same sort of explainations for their practices that Rev. J.L. Menezes is complaining about.

So I'm glad you illustrated the point.

Could it be that it might be considered a form of gambling ?

You are placing your money down, and based on events beyond your control you have the possibility of a profit.

You expect a higher payoff ( interest ) if the risk of losing is greater.

If it's not a symbolic act, then does it not suggest the days when superstitious savages would cut out the hearts of their enemies to eat them and gain their strength ?

"I cannot add a thing to any of it except - "
How about adding a link to it ?

But I particularly liked the way the Zaporozhians considered the professions of busboy, mechanic, beer brewer and goat skinner as being an insult.

"Another recognized religious leader heard from {Fr. Menezes}...."

Anyone have this book or actually read it ?

In a online review it was mentioned the good Father says at the end that ONLY Catholics will go to heaven --- Can someone verify this ?

It certainly suggests that. In fact, that was the reaction of His audience.

John 6:60-61

Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?"

Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you?

The difference is that the Eucharistic sacrifice, which makes present Christ's once-for-all sacrifice on the Cross, makes Christ's sacrifice present in an unbloody manner. His body is present in a real but supernatural (or spiritual) way, under the appearances of bread and wine. His body is not present in a natural way.

A more in-depth explanation here.

Pointedly, these were all low-level workman's occupations in those times, and given the islamic prohibitive against alcohol, the beer-brewing job was also considered a very snide insult...

"His body is not present in a natural way."

I'm sorry, didn't you just link to an example of natural physical body being present ?

Your link dosen't mention ... did the priest at the time chow down ... or did he reject the "body of Christ" ?

All I can say is St. Thomas Aquinas was a world class moron.

Oh? Just because he lived before modern economics, and had differing views from yours. Thomist ideas are still incorporated in our civilization. A "moron" wouldn't have been able to pull that off.
