MONROE CITY, Indiana (Reuters) - In a dozen districts across the U.S. heartland, voter unhappiness has imperiled Republicans, setting the stage for what could be the biggest anti-incumbent midterm election since 1994.
Pat Wilkerson says U.S. troops and veterans are her first priority, believes family values are important and voted Republican in 2004. But in November she'll switch parties -- though not because Democrats have won her over.
"When I vote now, it's not who I'm voting for, it's who I'm voting against," said the 59-year-old administrator, adding she is fed up with the war in Iraq and wants troops home.
"I think a lot of Republicans who are in office are at risk," Wilkerson said as she watched sweating politicians work the crowd at a town festival in Monroe City in southwest Indiana.
Polls show U.S. voters are overwhelmingly unhappy with the direction of the country.
In a New York Times/CBS poll released on Thursday, 77 percent of respondents said most members of Congress did not deserve re-election. Fifty percent said they would support a Democrat in November, when control of Congress is at stake, compared with 35 percent who said they would vote Republican.
That discontent has convinced some that control of Congress could change hands for the first time since 1994, when Republicans gained 54 seats amid a wave of voter anger. Democrats need to gain 15 seats in the House of Representatives and six Senate seats in November to win a majority.
While all 435 House seats and a third of the Senate's 100 seats are up for grabs on November 7, gerrymandered districts means only a fraction are

They're already in contact with the Mexican Left. Maybe the two Shadow Governments can form their own Shadow Alliance.
Just do a quick google of her name + Reuters...you'll see just about all of her stories are gloom and doom for conservatives. :)

Since Reuters claims they always verify stories before running them then I think they should prove Pat Wilkerson voted for "Republicans" in '04. I will bet someone is lying!

Maybe she voted Republican in the primaries but had no intention of voting Republican in the general election.
Dems have been known to do this countless times.
The media loved some rich Dem who did just that in 2000. This guy said that he'd never seen a candidate who matched his positions so much as Al Gore did. And he got a lot of headline ink as being a "Republican" (in name only) who funded Al Gore Jr.'s recount effort. He even joined up at FR to defend his politics.
Is this story so wrong?
While many won't vote for Dems, it's hard to say that the current Congress is "Conservative" nor do they embrace Conservative ideas.
1. Fiscal responsibilty
2. Less Gov't.
3. Personal responsibility
don't seem to be on the agenda!
So, will there be millions of words of analysis if the Dems somehow fail (again) to meet media election expectations?
Or will it be another two solid years of pounding the same Dem drum for 2008?
Is this another one of those "from the days when I marched for a nuclear freeze in the eighties to my work organizing unions in the nineties, I have always been a conservative but now that guldarned Bush has caused me to consider voting for a Democrat for the first time" stories?
There was a similar report on our Public Radio here in GA. They had interviews from people, mainly women that had previously voted GOP and now were considering voting RAT. One was the Mother of an Iraqi soldier, and voiced her concern for him. It made me want to puke.
One would be hardpressed, HARDPRESSED, to find a *real* "Republican turned Democrat". As we know, "Once you go Republican, you don't go back!"
