To counter any suggestion that Islam is a violent religion, Muslims attacked churches in the West Bank, Gaza and Basra this week. In Somalia a religious leader named Abubukar Hassan Malin echoed a British religious leader named Anjem Choudary who seemed to be in agreement with a religious leader from India called Syed Ahmed Bukhari that Pope Benedict XVI had to be forced to apologize.
Forced? Bukhari left it open how, but Choudary felt that subjecting the Pontiff to "capital punishment" may be persuasive, while Malin was inclined to think that the situation called for hunting down the Holy Father and killing him "on the spot." And, perhaps to indicate that these were no idle threats, as the week wore on, an Italian nun was murdered in Somalia, along with two Assyrian Christians in Iraq.
What did the Pope do? As most readers know, he quoted a remark made by the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Palaeologus: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
Was the anointed of Byzantium on to something? The Pope certainly didn't say so. He just quoted the beleaguered emperor, who -- being squeezed between hostile Turks and demanding Venetians at the time -- had vented about the Prophet and his bellicose followers in conversation with a Persian scholar. Little did he suspect that his words would hit the fan nearly 600 years later.
"The infidelity and tyranny of the Pope will only be stopped by a major attack," announced al-Qaeda from its cave on the Afghan-Pakistani border. Al-Qaeda's political arm in New York, a.k.a. the United Nations, took no position, only using the opportunity to condemn Israel for one thing or another.
Why do some Muslims have such an uncanny talent for proving the case of their critics? When accused of violence, they threaten violence. Better still, they engage in it. "Call us unruly and we riot," they say, in essence. "Call us murderers, and we kill you." Don't they see that this makes them a joke?
Well, no, they don't -- and they're right. Saying such things may make someone a joke in a debating society, but Islamofascists fight in a different arena. They don't care about winning the debate; what they want to win is their Kampf, better known these days as Jihad.
Lo and behold, they're winning it. By now the whole world tiptoes around the sensibilities of medieval fanatics. We take pains not to offend ululating fossils who cheer suicide bombers. Or raise them. We prop up rickety regimes whose sole contribution to modern times is to nurture ancient grievances and revive barbaric customs. We worry about the feelings -- feelings! -- of people who stone their loved ones for sexual missteps. We pussyfoot to protect the delicate psyche of oily ogres who amputate the hands of petty thieves, issue fatwas on novelists and cover up their hapless wives and sisters to the eyeballs.
We do this, obviously, not because we're impressed by the logic of the Islamofascist line -- "call us murderers and we'll kill you" -- but because we're intimidated by it. The Jihadists don't care about the quality of their argument. One doesn't have to, if one's aim isn't to persuade, but to coerce. The mullahs of militant Islam aren't worried about proving their critics' case. So some pundits think we're proving Benedict XVI or Manuel II right, imams Choudary and Malin might say. Big deal. Logic may be essential for pundits. It isn't essential for our followers who are willing to blow themselves up to get their way.
Come again, slowly -- blow themselves up to get their way? Yes, sir. How's that for logic?
The sheiks and mullahs of conquering Islam don't give a hoot about the hearts and minds of the West (the place that used to be called Christendom). They figure, not without justification, that if they get us by the balls, our hearts and minds will follow. This phrase, by the way, usually attributed to John Wayne, is a rare example of successful cross-pollination between the West and the East. It comes from cowboy country, but even Taliban-types understand it.
We're fortunate, though. To grab us by the balls, the Islamofascists would first have to find them. Good luck.
Last question: Did the Pope apologize for upsetting the mobs so the poor things had to vandalize and murder? Well, that depends on what sono rammaricato means in English. The Vatican seems to think it means "I am deeply sorry," but some commentators swear it only means "I am disappointed." Personally, I'd be disappointed if it meant "I am deeply sorry" -- but that's only me.

Excellent! I might add that the term "extremist" is being used as an out for the Moslem mainstream, unless you consider all moslems extremist.....which they seem to prove themselves to be. Besides, what "religion" mandates a head tax (a tax paid by a non-moslem to keep from being killed) as part of it's law?

Within their own communities, the slaves of allah are taught to blindly follow anything written by their cult leader ("maktoub" - it is written) and not to question it. Only "scholars" (a term you may earn after years of brainwashing) may offer up other rantings of the deranged mass murderer to challenge his earlier verbal diarrhea from the phase before the hijra. But it all boils back down to being a slave who is not allowed to critically interpret the book of lies and actions of the founder... the emphasis is not questioning WHY allah and the "perfect man" (al insan al kamil) mohamMAD commands you to threaten, kill and subjugate, but the fact they DO and must be obeyed.
Not understanding how the other 5 billion on the planet can get away with "disrespecting" their religion (ie, use critical analysis to evaluate their own religion and teachings so see if they pass scrutiny) koranimals fall back on their own lack of experience, expecting us to fall into line under verbal or physical threats as if WE are the naughty disrespectful little children in a maddrassah as so many of their generations have done before them.
During these early phases of mohammadan "outrage" we witness in the west, they have been richly rewarded for their vile actions, imagining the glorious power of their rock god at work, and have been emboldened by these successes.
However, their unwashed masses are simply are not savvy enough yet to understand the behavior they are displaying is abhorrent to us in the civilized (ie, non-islmaic) world and is provoking more and more of the common infidels who have had no interest in islam finally question the sort of ideology which both instigates and promotes the barbaric behavior we are growing accustomed to seeing.
Ours is not a world where we hide our intellectual discoveries, but openly boast and share them among our peers and who ever else will lend an ear. They must not ever be allowed to silence us. This modern day reawakening to the threat of islam and the evil which it is based on is finally gathering steam.
Muslims all over the globe may have rejoiced in their early successes, but the clock is now running for islam. As their uneducated unwashed masses come into contact with innovations in modern communication, islam and its founder will be exposed before their very eyes.
The democracy and rights we show them will hopefully be tools the enlightened can use against their religious leaders. This can only be achieved if there are enough of them who are exposed to the truth, and are ready to use these tools for this purpose first or knowing little better, they will simply be tools of their religous leaders.
As the actions of the 7th century barbarians is getting global attention, it is also bringing islam to the confrontation with it's ultimate demise.

I admire your spirit of hope. Just in the same way as other barbaric "religions" have disappeared, such as those based on human sacrifice like the religion of Baal referenced in the Old Testament, so someday too we may look forward to the fading away of this totalitarian political system which pretends to be an item of ultimate faith.
The problem is that naive Westerners (Christian and secular alike) also are not using logic. If we all did, there would be no sympathy (if you can believe that) for Islam.
In fact, from recent on-line debates with other insufficiently critical Americans on the faith issue, where I tried to make the case that the logical entity referred to as "Allah" can not possibly be identified with Him Whom we know as God, I think in the future I will avoid the kind of logical analysis that most people in Western society instinctively recoil against because they think (for some strange reason) that all faiths are worthy of respect.
Logic doesn't wotk with some muddleheads here who believe they are required to be "fair" to everyone, and hence my criticism is "unfair". This is the dire result of our educational system, by the way.
But I will try out the following argument: Was the deity Baal the same as God? If so why did God have Elijah contend against Baal's priests (e.g. the altar-burning miracle) if Baal was just "another name for God"? Or alternatively, was the deity to whom the Aztecs sacrificed their victims the same as God?
Anyway, I think the key is to convince that the struggle against Islam is analogous to the struggle against its ideological soulmate Nazism, which for a time people tried to reason with and excuse and mollify, never realizing that Hitler had nothing but contempt for his opponents.
