FORMER SPANISH PRESIDENT Aznar:“Muslims should apologize for occupying Spain for 800 years” 09/23/2006

Bush and his war on terror, said the West is under attack from radical Islam and must defend itself. “It is them or it is us,” Aznar said. “There is no middle ground.”

Jose Maria AznarMuslims should apologize for occupying Spain for 800 years and a U.N.-backed program to encourage dialogue between them and West is stupid, former Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar has said.

Aznar made his comments Friday night in a speech at the Hudson Institute, a thinktank in Washington, D.C., as he discussed Pope Benedict XVI's recent remarks on Islam and violence. Aznar, a firm ally of U.S. President George W.

Bush and his war on terror, said the West is under attack from radical Islam and must defend itself. “It is them or it is us,” Aznar said. “There is no middle ground.” He did not elaborate. Aznar said he found it surprising that Muslims have demanded an apology from the pope over his Sept. 12 remarks.

Aznar noted the nearly 800-year Moorish occupation of Spain that began in the year 711 with an invasion from North Africa. He said Muslims had never apologized for this but still demand apologies whenever they feel offended by remarks by non-Muslims. “It's absurd,” Aznar said.

He also criticized an initiative launched last year by his Socialist successor, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, to encourage dialogue between the West and Muslim countries.

It's all common sense, but these remarks will become the next "controversy."

But you have to applaud the man's courage.

He was term-limited, but Spain still sucks for voting his successor out.

I LOVE Aznar, and good on him for telling it like it is!!

I am detecting a new tone of resolve in some men of the West: Pope Benedict, Cardinal Pell, Aznar, John Howard....they are beginning to speak out and point out the absurdity of the Islamic complaints.

I am hoping we are seeing the beginning of a stiffer spine in our allies.

Anyway, I am quite glad to see Aznar speaking out.

Aznar, a firm ally of U.S. President George W. Bush and his war on terror...

Well apparently, according to this article, Bush is not alone on his war on terror, as he has Aznar with him on it.

And, in reality, another 200 million Americans are with Bush and Aznar on Our war on the Islamofascists, as we prefer now to call it. Its the lamestream media, lackeys in Congress, and a bunch of 'rats hanging around DU and elsewhere that are for USA nationcide.

It is so sad that the Spanish people didn't elect like-minded people like Aznar after the terror attacks there. This is a very brave and honest man, and how refreshing that there is someone in Europe who gets it besides Tony Blair. Can he be recommended for Kofi's job at the UN?

I think the islamderthals should apologize for their current occupation of Jewish and Christian lands. While they're at it I'm sure some Hindus and Buddhists might like the same apology.

When they're done apologizing they can begin their retreat to former muslim lands.

"he is a clear-thinking gent."

I sincerely doubt it. He accused ETA for the Al Quaida train bombs in Spain.

Please read the text below originating from wikipedia.org and then tell me if a man like this ought to rule a country of 40 million inhabitants. ( source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aznar )

"The Madrid train bombings
Further information: 11 March 2004 Madrid train bombings
Three days before the election a presumed Islamic terrorist group killed 191 people in the 11 March 2004 Madrid train bombings centred on the Atocha train station,[4] [5] [6] later claiming that this was in response to the role played by Spain in the Iraq war.

Ignoring evidences the Aznar cabinet first blamed ETA, since that's what they wanted the population to think while voting. Even after strong evidence that the attacks had been carried out by an Islamist group emerged, Aznar and his cabinet colleagues continued to insist that ETA was responsible and instructed Spanish diplomats to attribute responsibility to ETA at every opportunity. Two days after the Atocha bombings, demonstrations took place across Spain demanding news from the investigation, where chants such as "We want the truth before we vote" and "Who is responsible" were heard.

Three days after the train bombings, the PSOE won the election. Despite the overwelming proofs and the statement of the intelligence services that the attacks were carried out by an Islamist group, PP representatives would continue to claim that there was a link between ETA and the March 11th bombing. The investigations held by a Parliamentary Committee were characterised by bitter partisan exchanges between PP members and everyone else. Eventually the conclusions aproved by the majority (all parties except the PP) claimed islamic terrorism was responsible for the attack, not ETA."

It is emerging in the Spanish press that ETA actually was involved. ETA didn't plan it, but they provided the materials and obviously, therefore, would have known about it in advance. But ETA is a sacred cow to the Socialists. ETA, which is a Marxist organization, won their hearts by attacking Franco, blowing up members of his government on their way to Mass, etc., and the Socialists are ready to conceal or pardon anything ETA does.

Both are true - parts of Scandinavia, for example, were not converted to Christianity until the 10th and 11th centuries, and it is also true that the Germanic countries are further away from the ME and also have a climate that is very inhospitable by Middle Eastern standards.

In addition, while the Muslims caught Southern Europe off guard, Northern Europe saw it as a salutary lesson on what would happen if the Muslims got in, and I think this encouraged them to pull out all the stops on resisting. And Spain itself did manage to kick them out, after 800 years, as Aznar points out, and their stay in other parts of Southern Europe was even briefer.

"You might wanna think a bit about Easter & Christmas traditions. Did Christianity fully "conquer" the Germanic people's of the world?"

- Nope.

Example:

One of the strongest pre-christian, pagan, traditions in my part of the world (Sweden, Scandinavia) is and has always been Midsummer ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer ).

Most people in Sweden aren't aware of the fact that, officially, Midsummer is a lutheran celebration of the birthday of John the Baptist.

At Midsummer, swedes instead celebrate swedish nature, the sun never setting and the joys of drinking Absolut Vodka and eating sill/baltic herring ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_herring ) - or the joys of Absolut Vodka alone.

Just being vikings...

This is interesting, I wont deny that.

All the same, I think you have to say Aznar failed to behave like a true statesman.

Anyhow, please understand that I'm a true friend of Spain and the idea of a united Europe.

Personally, I have always felt that some in the left knew more than they are letting on. Those leftist demonstrations were organized practically before the bodies were even cold and had identically printed signs. Also, Aznar had made major changes to the Spanish intelligence services, eliminating and consolidating them, and he had a lot of enemies there. It later emerged that some of the Muslims involved in the bombing were actually (in theory) "informants" to one of the intelligence services, and the police had also had contact with the Spaniard from Asturias who had provided the dynamite. So it's very murky; Aznar had tried to clean up the intelligence services, but obviously, not enough or not in the right places.

Nor will they. They want it back. Andalusia was and is considered by Muslim scholars to be a part of Daar al-Islam and nothing once theirs is ever legitimately otherwise, including worshippers.

I'm sure that fact wasn't lost on Osama. The Muslims' last chance to take Vienna was lost in the Battle of Vienna, which began on Sept. 11, 1683.

Muslim aggression was stopped the first time at the Battle of Tours (now France) by Charles Martel (Hammer) in 732AD.

The Serbs also stopped their advance in later years. The 1389AD battle is still celebrated even though it was actually a loss. The Islamic battle leader was killed by a Serb there.

Determination and a refusal to compromise can win the day.

Vlad the Impaler in Romania got his fearsome reputation by his willingness to do whatever it took to fight the invading Turks.

This is all new to me and I wouldn't be surprised if I one day found it all to be relly intriguing. Please post links etc. in this thread.

However, the bottom line remains the same: The way you manage to communicate with a nation as its leader will always determine your actual success. You can not fail in this respect and still lead a nation.

On the other hand, nations are sometimes in a state where national leadership is impossible.

As a EU citizen, I feel we can't afford to let a major european nation go down in a trench war of accusations, restlessness and hatred.

ETA and Al-Qaeda will not remain forever.

Europe will.

Not just the vikings. Eggs & bunnies are pagan fertility symbols. Christmas trees, mistletoe, holly & Yule logs also originate in pagan beliefs. Both holidays are celebrated around a solstice. Rather than replacing Germanic paganism, Christianity borrowed the pagan holidays... close enough was good enough.

Herring, blech & yes, it's always served in my home on holidays. It's available with both wine & some kind of creamy white sauce in my area.
