GARDEZ, Afghanistan — After completing their deployment to this remote firebase, the Green Berets of ODA 2021 left for home covered in glory.
The 10-member Special Forces team, part of the Alabama National Guard, returned to their families in the spring of 2003 with tales to tell of frenzied firefights and narrow escapes.
ADVERTISEMENT Its commander had nominated each of his men — as well as himself — for medals for valor. The team's performance was heralded as evidence that the Guard could play as equals with the regular Army in the war on terrorism.
But the team also had come home with secrets.
Apparently unknown to Army officials, two detainees had died in the team's custody in separate incidents during the unit's final month in eastern Afghanistan. Several other detainees allege that they were badly beaten or tortured while held at the base in Gardez.

I am reading the long article in the LAT.
Clearly the liberals objective is to make us totally impotent in fighting the terrorists, and just be sitting ducks -- which was why we couldn't prevent 9-11. They want to not only go back to that but beyond, to make sure we can't have any effective means of fighting the terrorists and preventing attacks on the American people.
They want to have another attack, so they can blame it on President Bush. They are putting politics over the lives of Americans.

Now it appears they even want to abolish the Special Forces.

Sounds like just grounds for a commendation to me. I'm not going to waste more time reading that commie LAT, but the only thing I could think is that they're gonna accuse them of goldbricking for not finishing off the torture/beatings with a good killing. But c'mon, these guys were at the end of a deployment and probably tired. People slip up sometimes.

At the end of the article, they are even bashing the soldiers for getting mad, because the terrorists blew up some of their fellow soldiers, as if that were totally unreasonable, and they should just "turn the other cheek".

Don't bother looking for logic inside the minds of liberals. They are pacifists in the midst of war... terribly and easily confused.
The LAT and NYT have but one objective: Weaken America. There are lots of reasons they think this way, but this article in the LAT is a result of hatred for the military. They will deny it, but then they'll print another piece like this. Neither the NYT nor the LAT ever miss an opportunity to urinate on the military.
They are scum and the enemy within and we should do everything we can to fight them.

This 'unarmed peasant' undoubtedly dropped his rife or RPG before being taken prisoner. No 'unarmed preasant' is going to stay around a 'fierce firefight' in the mountains just to watch the combatants go at each other.
