Fox News Channel Plays Musical Anchors (ED Hill off Fox & Friends)
NY Daily News ^ | 09/25/06

Posted on 09/25/2006 4:44:17 AM PDT by Kieri

The Fox News Channel shakes up its anchor roster a little today, with former WABC/ Ch. 7 correspondent E.D. Hill moving from "Fox & Friends" to the network's "Fox Live" anchor team.

Former CBS News anchor Gretchen Carlson will take Hill's place as a co-host of the freewheeling morning show.

"Gretchen's warm personality and dynamic energy are a perfect fit for 'Fox & Friends,'" Bill Shine, senior vice president of programming, said in a statement.

Also starting today on FNC is "Live Desk With Martha MacCallum" at 1 p.m., replacing "Dayside," and a full hour of news with Jane Skinner at 2 p.m.

I know there will be FReepers who celebrate her departure, but I am very upset. E.D., Steve and Brian were a great team I've watched from Fox's beginning, and I will miss her.

I wondered what was up when Steve welcomed Gretchen Carlson to the show. I don't have anything against Gretchen, but I will miss E.D. She helped lighten up the mornings.

I figured the early morning show was tough for ED with all her kids.

Ack! I LOVE E.D.!!!! I agree with you 100% and would like to ad that she was a pit-bull in interviews where someone was trying to dodge a question! She's great, and I'm terribly upset that Fox would break up such a great team. I really love the chemistry between those three.

Good for her - and good for Fox.

I don't like it........not one bit! I love Steve and Brian and ED TOGETHER. They bring out the best in each other and that's why I watch. No offense to Gretchen and maybe ED took a step up but like the old saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I hate to say it but I hope the outcry will make Fox see what I consider a BIG mistake. (Putting soap box away........for now). :)

E.D. Hill was a good balance for her two male loons.

Gretchen Carlson is dry toast compared to E.D. - I don't think she will survive in this spot - they need more personality.

My opinion

I do agree with DB -- if ED needed a schedule that let her be home with her kids in the mornings, I'd understand completely. She didn't start until 7:00AM ET many days and sometimes she wasn't there. She's got a big family and I can't imagine how she does it all. I hope the suits at Fox tried their best to accomodate her.

Mornings aren't going to be the same without ED. Those three had great chemistry. I *will* watch her in the afternoons, though, and I hope she finds a lot of success later in the day, too.

I like E.D.

I think she is of the old Southern Democrat politics; she seems to lean toward the conservative rather than the liberal.

There were times she was about the only one who would cut into some of the stunts some Dems did. She has been the loudest morning voice on some of the idiocies coming out of Washington -- such as open borders.

She is sort of like Brian Kilmeade. They can both present a good, solid rant at times. And both can cut the legs out from under a 'guest' who tries to stick to the daily talkingpoints.

I would like to see more of Hill and Kilmeade unleased on some of the politicians and talkingpoints pundits -- of both parties.

True. Plus, what a hectic schedule
for any wife/mother to be on...
going to bed at 8 pm (before some
of the kids!) and arriving at the
job by 5 a.m. She's told us her
husband has to supervise getting
the kids off to school (no doubt
they have a maid/nanny aide) and
she handles them for the after
school hours.

I have Fox on all day, so I know
I'll still be seeing/enjoying E.D.
just at a later time slot.

OTOH, I love Kieren, too.

I feel sure this had something to do with her kids. Children grow up fast and school activities are very demanding. Getting up so early to get into Manhattan for the show had to be an endurance test. I will be tuning in to see her in the new position whenever possible.

I also love the exotic looks of Harris Falkner.

Harris was an anchor here in KC for a number of years.... Wow, what a hottie! And she's extremely bright. Something that I've noticed about Fox... They get some extremely bright and intelligent wimmin-folk on their news shows, who just happen to be extremely HOT! Paige Hopkins! WOW!!!!!

Looks like thier adding fluff with Martha's new show. Does sound like it'll be that entertaining. The only reason they put Gretchen on in the morning is because she's a former Miss America. IMHO she's just not that entertaining. She may be an accomplished journo but she is absolutely the wrong fit for morning TV. While they were just interviewing MacCallum it just reinforced the fact that she indeed would fit in nicely in the morning.

The first time I ever watched FOX NEWS was on an old analog c band sat system and the program had one guy sitting on a stool in front of a little glass table doing the news. Thats all there was to it..no adds no breaks no nothing. Although I dont think ED Hill was the first lady to join the outfit, she was amoungst the first.

I wish I had a picture of that guy..I can see him in my mind and dont know his name but I did know that this news outfit was different as they reported BOTH sides of the story and not just the side like CNN/ABC/CBS et al wanted you to see.

OH NOOOO. I loved then as a team. This is really bad news. Kiran would have been a better pick than Gretchen. Or Juliet--but her and Mike are a hoot together--shouldn't break them up. I hear they are going to do a Fox nationwide morning show.

Gretchen is a little stiff. Kiran has the personality.

E.D. Hill never made a smart statement on her own, she had to read it on the laptop in front of her, or repeat what was told to her in her headset/earpiece. It's obvious she is in over her head on serious news stories.

Thst is untrue. You are just saying that because she is a Democrat. I never saw E.D. go over the top and she was never blatantly biased as far as I could sae.
E.d is very bright and has a huge warm personality. I love watching her with Brian and Steve. Fox and Friends will never be the same. Kiran has that same warm personality as E.d. They should have gone with her.

I remember Louis. I don't think he ever fit in. Steve, Brian and ED were playful whereas he was way too uptight for a morning show. I'm not sure about Gretchen Carlson. If it were me, I'd bring in Juliet Huddy or Kiran Chetry(but then I like looking at hotties).
