IREY ADVISORY: DIANA IREY TO CALL FOR FEDERAL INVESTIGATION INTO MURTHA FUNDRAISING PRACTICES

(PITTSBURGH, September 26) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- the woman standing up to U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha -- will hold a press availability today, Tuesday, September 26, on the sidewalk outside the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, at 700 Grant Street, in Pittsburgh, at 11 AM.
Irey will release a letter she is delivering today to U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan requesting an investigation into Rep. Murtha's fundraising activities.
Based on news reports, lobbying disclosure reports, Federal Election Commission Records, and a study released last week by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, there is reason to believe Rep. Murtha may have violated federal law.

What are her chances of unseating Murtha in the election? What are the polls showing?
Murtha is as dirty as they come, but I doubt if they will investigate based on a complaint by a political opponent. It is not like Murtha is a Republican.

People haven't look seriously at this district in decades. The voters will probably be charged up to have a race this close. If Murtha's backers take it for granted and Irey's folks are charged up, the gap between them is easily surmountable.

I'm not too sure what these Republicans are trying to accomplish with all their attacks:
• The Republican Leader in the House says, "I listen to my Democrats friends, and I wonder if they are more interested in protecting the terrorists than protecting the American people."
• Dick Cheney says on national television that anybody who questions him is emboldening the enemy.
• Donald Rumsfeld compares anyone who questions their "stay the course" strategy to Nazi appeasers.
Give me a break. Let there be no doubt that Democrats are united behind the fight against terrorism. Democrats are united behind our troops. And Democrats are united behind a strong America.
But as far as Iraq goes, the truth is that the American people have been way out ahead of the Bush Administration. Sixty percent of the American people disagree with the direction in Iraq because nobody is being held accountable and we're not making any progress.
There's only one hope to get that change and get a new direction; that's a Democratic majority in the House. My friend there are plenty of good conserative candidates running all over the country, and I'm sure there are in your state, get out and support them. If we don't do it say hello to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Not forbidden that I know of, merely tiresome to the point where they've become something of a joke.
So far as I know, no one has released any poll results. If I ever see any, I can assure you that I'll post them, no matter what they say, just to pacify the the "poll junkies".
Frankly, given how easy it is to manipulate "polls" and the fact that they're hardly reliable predictors, I'm at a loss to understand the preoccupation with them.
It's rather like constantly repeating the *fact* that my county has a 2 to 1 Democratic majority of registered voters. Doesn't change the *facts* that: Bush won here in '04; we have 2 Republican county commissioners; even Johnstown voted in a Republican mayor; the vast majority of people in this area do *not* care to be "polled" and generally refuse(to put it politely ;)to participate in them. :)
