Excellent Rebuttal to Global Warming Alarmists
U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works ^

Posted on 09/27/2006 4:39:37 AM PDT by poncho67

Climate alarmists have been attempting to erase the inconvenient Medieval Warm Period from the Earth’s climate history for at least a decade. David Deming, an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma’s College of Geosciences, can testify first hand about this effort. Dr. Deming was welcomed into the close-knit group of global warming believers after he published a paper in 1995 that noted some warming in the 20th century. Deming says he was subsequently contacted by a prominent global warming alarmist and told point blank “We have to get rid of the Medieval Warm Period.” When the “Hockey Stick” first appeared in 1998, it did just that.

"Almost grasped that straw, but missed again."

Global warming propagandists habe been grasping and missing their straws consistantly, but they have the global propaganda ministry (the drive-by media) on their side all the way.

"Insert head in sand. The consistently brilliant conservative strategy to having started out on the wrong side of an issue."

You miss the point. The climate ISN'T changing enough to make any difference, but proving that is just as impossible as proving that IT IS changing enough to make any difference. We simply cannot forecast what the climate will be like in 50 or 100 years with any accuracy.

During the 70's the predictions were that we were headed for a mini ice age, and that billions would have starved to death by the late 90's. That prediction was made by the same boneheads that are now predicting global warming.

What else can you say to idiots like these except 'shut up'?

Who cares if the globe is warming, it has done that before, and if it does it again, it will be great for food production, and if the sea levels rise, even under worst case scenarios, it will rise so slowly that people will adapt.

Fear mongering is not only silly, but wastes resources that could be better used elsewhere.

BTW what happened to the hole in the ozone layer? It's gone. Wasn't that going to kill us all?

So far environmentalists forecasts have been 100% wrong. It's not really their fault though, they are to stupid to understand just how profoundly stupid and unable to predict anything they are.

I read it, liked it a lot and downloaded the whole speech to send to my daughter, a died-in- the-wool, liberal Global Warming alarmist. I learned from her that libs cannot stand to quietly discuss the issue and they refuse to read anything that proves that GW is a huge scam. Libs are the most closed-minded people I know and I'm sorry that my kid is one of them. It's not my fault! By the way, she's a Brit lib so she will not cancel my vote in our elections.

Yes -- it appears that alarmism has led to skepticism.

That's a good think. Skepticism of political alarmism is increasing people's skepticism of politicians and bureaucrats too, regardless of it applying to both sides of the aisle and all three branches of government. That too is a good thing. Ditto for state governments and their officials.

Breaking the cycles of media hysteria will not be easy since hysteria sells -- it’s very profitable. But I want to challenge the news media to reverse course and report on the objective science of climate change, to stop ignoring legitimate voices this scientific debate and to stop acting as a vehicle for unsubstantiated hype.

Agree. No reason to limit it to global warming or the environment. The power of the global warming hoax is that the idea of global warming has captured so many people's attention. It's not trivial. It's widespread and has cross pollinated beyond headlines, politics and education.

Breaking the cycles of media politician&bureaucrat hysteria will not be easy since hysteria sells -- it’s very profitable. But I want to challenge the news media politicians&bureaucrats to reverse course and report on the objective science of climate change, to stop ignoring legitimate voices this scientific debate and to stop acting as a vehicle for unsubstantiated hype.

We're in the rabbit hole. Have been for 2400 years. Ever deeper the world population plummets to the authoritarians' cry that "we're doomed" Governments and religions leading the way.

Despite their cries of certain doom ever greater understandings of nature has lead to ever advancing technologies. Business has increasingly advanced and pushed new technologies in certain geo-political areas and some around the globe. Why are there geo-political boundaries at all hindering the mass-marketing of advanced technologies and industrialization? Welcome to the rabbit hole.

We're doomed!

No we're not. Save for Islam-fascist terrorist that want to kill us all. "We", being the world population. Shortly, the 2400 legacy of authoritarianism will be obsolete. Science and business will push technologies beyond geo-political boundaries faster and further than politicians, bureaucrats and the media will be able to thwart.

Technology advances exponentially. We're at the beginning of the knee of the curve. Toward the future, noticeable, life-experiencing affects of rapidly advancing technologies will outpace and quickly race past politicians and bureaucrats abilities to write laws to curtail the inevitable doom they and the media proclaim from their authoritarian perches.

The federal government creates about 3,000 new laws and regulations each year. Each state creates about a third as many. All to supposedly save citizens and society from doom or the boogieman of the day. Despite a mountain of laws, which almost every person breaks more than just traffic laws several times each year, persons and society have increasingly prospered. Leastwise they have in the United States.

It seems obvious that all those must-have laws weren't must-have laws at all. They're unnecessary. And cause an unnecessary burden/hindrance/tax on productivity, advancing technologies and especially, thwart mass marketing and industrialization beyond geo-political boundaries.

Almost no one is immune from the rabbit-hole hoax of the authoritarians' rule. For every person has at least one, typically several pet beliefs that support a vested interest in the rabbit-hole.

One by one persons are journeying beyond political boundaries and the rabbit-hole. Most are unaware of their journey. The closer a person comes to eyeing the light at the end of the tunnel the more they acknowledge the rabbit whole they're escaping. The journey, the self-directed path they set for themselves becomes increasingly drawn before them by the facts of science, quickening advancement of new technologies and the businesses that push them beyond authoritarians' ability to thwart their progress.

All newer technologies are predicated on prior technologies. Sometimes older technologies become obsolete. Such as the plight of the buggy whip and the slide-rule. Usually what happens is the older paradigm gives way to an advanced technology paradigm. The computer is at the tail-end, the end of an S shaped wave. Ending the fifth paradigm as technology advances computers into their sixth paradigm. Cascading S waves are the path and trajectory of a specific advancing technology or information.

A full treatment of the S-curve cascade and The Law of Accelerating Returns.

Leading the exponential explosion at the knee of the curve are nanotechnology, microbiology, genetics, robotics and AI (artificial intelligence).

"Exponential growth starts out slowly and virtually unnoticeable, but beyond the knee of the curve it turns explosive and profoundly transformative. My models show that we are doubling the paradigm-shift rate for technology innovation every decade. ...To express this another way, we won't experience 100 years of technology advance in the twenty-first century;  we will witness on the order of 20,000 years of progress (again, when measured by today's progress rate), or progress on a level of about 1,000 times greater than what was achieved in the twentieth century". -- The Singularity and Human Destiny, by Patrick Tucker, assistant editor, THE FUTURIST

Your argument is great up to this point. Have you ever heard of the Montreal protocol? It is the international treaty (not so different from the Kyoto Protocol) that led the the gradual reduction and phasing out of ODP (Ozone depleting substances).

The whole inthe ozone layer is still there. Its growth has slowed and projections indicate the growth will stop and then reverse by 2040 when the problem will have been solved.

Unfortunately your mentioning of this totally contradicts your point. It was a manmade problem requiring global consensus and action. That happened, alternative technolgies made the costs negligible and the problem has been solved.

Of course Bush's corporate buddies still want to use bromine to as a peticide for strawberries. The Republican disdain or disregard for environmental issues is going to hurt the party real bad in the near future.

Only, you have no proof that the treaty is the reason the hole is gone. More likely is that it went away on it's own since developed countries are the only ones who adhered to the treaty and they only marginally.

"Your argument is great up to this point."

Thank you. I will assume you agree with my other points since you don't rebut them. BTW, did you read the article?

Yeah, the man-made global warming issue (with mostly America to blame) is such a political winner for the left and such a loser for us that President Al Gore is now in his sixth year in office and the Republicans are completely out of power.

Oh, hold on a second...
