Mod note: WJAC corrected its earlier report. Bob Kerrey, not John Kerry, will be at Max Cleland's pro-Murtha event.

Sept. 26, 2006... Local Johnstown, PA station WJAC-TV announced during their 11PM news cast that former presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry will be speaking at the Murtha anti-war counter rally this Saturday. Murtha's counter rally is organized by former Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia. Former presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark is also expected to speak.

The Murtha's counter rally is expected to draw anti-war demonstrators in support of Murtha. Rep. Murtha, who has been critical of the War in Iraq, has received national attention and awards of recognition from anti-war groups such as Code Pink who protest outside hospitals caring for America’s wounded soldiers.

What a beautiful story! But how will you possibly accomplish all that while still planted firmly in your precious little chair?

I thought you had a problem with me doing too much? Now it's a problem with me doing too little?

Or maybe you just have a problem...

You're right! I was wrong thinking it was RS, which is where Kerry tried to be all cool and drop the "F bomb".

"Cyber squealer"? I gotta stick up for Petronski (not that he needs it). Without him, I wouldn't be on Free Republic. Who cares? Well, so far I've sent $500 to the Irey campaign and hope to send more. Others have undoubtedly are doing the same. Goes to show you never can tell.

I wasn't there and never will be at one of these events that seem to be nothing more than an opportunity for a lot of those in attendance to aggrandize themselves.

Maybe you should think about how words like that will salt the wounds of the parents who stood there telling us of their beloved fallen ones.
Your opinion and the truth couldn't be further apart , and if you had been there you would understand.

Goes to show you never can tell.

Unfortunately, it's quite easy to tell. Sparse attendance at rallies, threads ignored even after major pinging and begging for bumps, cricket chirps when asking for volunteers, etc.

I appreciate all you've done, Red. But it doesn't change a darned thing. I can find some conservatives in Massachusetts, too. So should we start calling it a conservative state?

"Wesley Clark has totally gone over to the dark side."

Has? I'll never forget when he first announced his candidacy. He was asked his position on something and begged off until he could contact his people by cell phone to find out what his position was. He did this while reporters stood by.

I'm kind of surprised to see Hugh Shelton stump for Murtha but I think he came to power under Clinton, didn't he?

Like Shinseki, Shelton hates Rumsfeld.

Thanks Red, I didn't know that. It must extend to Repubs too.

Here's a Wasington Post profile from 1998:

General Shelton, who took over as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in October 1998, serves as the principal military advisor to the president, the defense secretary and the National Security Council. The 56-year-old general and former paratrooper has been seasoned in a number of overseas assignments. He served two tours in Vietnam during the war, commanding a Special Forces detachment and later an infantry company. During the 1991 Persian Gulf War, he was assistant commander for operations of the 101st Airborne Division. And in 1994, he led U.S. troops into Haiti. Shelton came to the chairman's job from the elite Special Operations Command, which he headed.
