States, Counties Begin to Enforce Immigration Law

By Peter Whoriskey Washington Post Staff Writer Wednesday, September 27, 2006; 6:50 AM

CHARLOTTE -- Police here operated for years under what amounts to a "don't ask, don't tell" policy toward illegal immigrants.

As elsewhere in the United States, law enforcement officers did not check the immigration status of people they came into contact with, and in the vast majority of cases, a run-in with the law carried little threat of deportation.

But....

>>"No more excuses," U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick (R) said at a news conference at the time, calling for tougher enforcement. "You're drunk. You're driving. You're illegal. You're deported. Period."<<

I wish our President had the same attitude.

The able Congresswoman's comments are common sense, right? Amazing it is not policy nor practice in the United States. We are TOOOOOOOO open. That is about to change, finally.

How appropriate, my reading this just now. My neighbor across the street was telling me about 15 minutes ago how yesterday around two in the afternoon he went outside when his dogs began barking and found a hispanic guy at the gate into the backyard, a pickup backed up to the gate, and a shovel in his hands (obviously to shut the dog up). As soon as my neighbor came out the door the guy was in his truck and leaving fast in a matter of seconds. No point calling the sheriff dept in this county (Mohave County), they are inept, unresponsive or slow to arrive when called for any reason. I told my neighbor to not forget his pistol the next time. Less PC and more arrests & deportations are needed everywhere.

So do I but even if they are deported they come right back over the border. I watched a story last night where a Mexican was convicted of sexual abuse against a 12 yr old , he was deported and recently killed a cop who didnt pat him down well enough to find the gun he had hidden in his waistband. Cop had 5 kids. We need the wall and we need better security. Plain and simple.

Tell that to the Senate today (really, that is a strong story and argument), as they are talking about the fence. As usual the Dems and a number of GOPs, bought off by vote banks (for Dems) and contributions from associations who are for illegal hiring (for Repubs), are digging their heels in.

ICE will refuse to pick up suspect for deportation, unless felony suspect, happens all the time. The congresswoman must know this......ah it is election season, and grandstanding is in vogue. I truly wish that deportation was that easy!!!

I'll believe it when I see it.

If we didn't release them once we have them in handcuffs or behind bars, it would be much simpler. This administration wants to give them every possible chance to obtain amnesty.

When I was in the military, many times groups of us traveled from one location to another in a semi trailer. No, it wasn't air conditioned either.

If they wouldn't just release them, I would be willing to drive, free of charge, one of these semis from city to city picking up illegal aliens who have been arrested for immigration violations and depositing them at an ICE station.
