Georgia is too busy cleaning out the kodori gorge of Russia-backed terrorists. As long as Russia occupies Georgian land they shouldn't expect any help from the free Georgia they treat as their own conquered colony.

You forget, that ossets are Christians too. What does Georgia prevents to repeat slaughter in Tskhinvali?
Georgia intentionally provokes Russia. When the country have big problems - there always need the external enemy so that the population knew because of whom these problems is necessary.
Russia is now too weak, and international pressure too strong upon her that she could react adequately.

In Israel war has begun because of abduction of two soldier.
Precedent has been created.
Here four officers are stolen.
Putin is unduly soft.

Many Georgians voted by legs for puppet government - one third of them live in Russia.
When USA starts war with Iran, Georgia will have only unfriendly neighbours. Russia will not defend traitors from Persians as 220 years ago. It was their choice. They awaited golden rain from West, but alas, now they are in (_!_) And no way out.

I think that Saakashvili is trying to put a pressure on Russia to stop supporting Separatists in Abkhazia and S. Ossetia.

"Can you explain the concept of golden rain--it is not a common term in [American] English." It means, that some former republics of the USSR awaited, that rich states of West will give them much money and provide immediate prosperity.

In the USSR communist government was inter-nationalistic i.e. they told all the time, that Russians as elder brothers must help to small, weak and backward nationalities and republics. Big investments were made in those republics at the expense of Russians. Russia was poor country with unfavorable climate, ruined not once by wars, and had not much to give. Our former brothers decided, that if they will be friends with West, they will have prosperous life. So it is your turn to feed them and change them pumpers.
Russia is not obliged anymore to buy unpalatable faked Georgian wine at a price of good French, and faked mineral water, sell them fuel at half price, allow them go to Russia to earn money and steal our jobs. At time of USSR in Georgia there were built many sanatoriums and hotels, they always were full. Today Russians will not go there even for award. Turk and Southern Europe is better.

Last year Georgia was the largest recipient of US foreign aid.

Last year American soldiers were easily seen walking the streets of Tbilisi. We have spent way too much money and invested far too many soldiers and time to back out now.

see this response
"And then I do not think Russia will dare to start a war with Georgia, that could mean the third world war and Russia knows it."

Georgia is being nursed into NATO, on our money and with our support, and Russia doesn't like it.

"A woman cries at the Georgian-Abkhazian war memorial wall that bears her son's name during an anniversary ceremony in Tbilisi September 27, 2006. Abkhazia, a small region wedged between the Caucasus and the Black Sea, fought a short but severe separatist war against Georgia in the closing days of the Soviet Union. On a day of mourning, Georgia marked on Wednesday the 13th anniversary of the end of the fighting."

My son was airlifted during this war. Let it not happen again. Lord have mercy. Please join me in prayer for peace in Georgia.

Do you really believe Russia has much spying to do in Georgia? Besides that does not look like spying - a GRU staff with his ID clearly saying "GRU colonel" openly speaks on the phone, using his REAL name. That does look like a provocation, which Saakashvili overreacted to.
