What ever happened to Russ and Dee?
The Russ and Dee Website ^ | September 29, 2006 | Russ Fine

Posted on 09/29/2006 8:30:47 PM PDT by holyscroller

The dust continues to settle. Many unsolicited emails and telephone calls from persons known to us as credible sources as well as from lots of folks with whom we are entirely unfamiliar have been received since we were fired, before finishing our show, this past Monday, September 25th.

Most of the messages have an eerily similar and now, all too familiar ring. The Grand Masonic Lodge of Alabama “gotcha fired.” It’s alright, scratch your head? As far-fetched as it might sound on the surface, the more one learns about the Masons of the Alabama Grand Lodge the more plausible the allegations. Actually, we’ve known they were at the heart of this from the get-go.

For nearly 20 years on the air, we’ve ALWAYS been controversial. We’re known for it. But, we earned that reputation. We never set out to be outrageous for the sake of ratings or simply to be outrageous. That was never it. We are ‘children of the 60s’ and for the good or for the ill, we never bought into the political survival mantra “to get along, go along.” Why? Like most other people, of all political stripes and ideologies, we have a rather accurate sense of that which is right and that which is wrong. To our detriment, it appears, this time our inability to keep our mouths shut when we know – with certainty – that something is wrong, very very wrong … has gotten us fired, in a chilling move to silence us and to keep the ugly truth away from others who can easily discern the difference between right and wrong.

This is not rocket science: Bob Riley is the Governor of Alabama. Bob Riley is running for re-election. The President of the United States came to Birmingham, yesterday, September 28th, to help raise more money for Riley’s re-election campaign.

However, that which the mainstream media fails to address or conveniently chooses to ignore is that Bob Riley is a Mason; a member of some rather majestic sounding group known as the Grand Lodge of Alabama. So far so good. No big deal. Lots of well-known people are Masons. But, when we learned and then exposed on our former morning drive radio talk show that Governor Bob Riley’s Grand Masonic Lodge discriminates against African Americans, by formal resolution … that they will not allow a black man to become a member … we knew that his affiliation –because he is the governor and wants to be the governor for four more years – was and is 100% wrong.

I sent the information and proof to the editorial page editor of Alabama’s largest newspaper. I sent it to their syndicated editorial cartoonist. Silence. I sent the information to the state’s most highly-regarded television news anchor (a personal friend of more than 20 years). Nothing from him except a note (after several more emails from me asking if he got my original information) that suggested “we need to go to dinner sometime and talk …” and “don’t forget to give my regards to Dee.” Finally, I emailed the newspaper guy and after overcoming his artful dodging, I finally got him to admit to me (in writing) that the fact the Governor of Alabama was a highly-regarded member of a fraternity that discriminates against people on the basis of their race bothered him as well as it bothered me. Shallow victory, because he has remained silent.

Anyway, the bottom line is that in Alabama, The Bad Guys won. The governor’s office declined to comment after 1 brave reporter from a local weekly newspaper confronted them with the allegation. They continue to dodge the question, but their silence is deafening.

You can connect the dots or you can ignore them. Doesn’t matter and it doesn’t alter the truth: The Governor of Alabama who is campaigning for re-election –who is asking all Alabamians for the privilege of representing and leading them – belongs to an organization that is racist. If an organization will not admit to membership a person because of their skin color and ethnicity, they are by definition, a racist organization. Doesn’t matter if they run hospitals and do charitable acts. So does Hezbollah. Doesn’t make ‘em good guys. It’s a very clever cover.

There is only one conclusion that can be drawn: The Grand Masonic Lodge of Alabama is racist. The Governor is a member. Is the Governor a racist ? You decide. He hasn’t resigned. Oh, and by the way, I’m worried about the President (for whom we voted twice and to whose re-election we contributed more money than we could afford). Could President Bush have possibly have known this about ‘Brother Riley’ before he came to Birmingham? Of course he knew. Now, assuming the President knew … and you know his advance people were made aware of the information on our site, you have to wonder why Riley hasn’t resigned from the Grand Lodge? And you have to wonder, why the President didn’t change his travel plans … or at least tell him to get out of the Grand Lodge or he wasn’t coming to Birmingham.

Like I said: It’s not rocket science … but it is a shameful disgrace. All Alabamians and most of all, all Masons should be very ashamed. I am.

Nope, wasn't wondering. Both Russ and Dee are self-promoting, egomaniacal boobs.

Even in Russ's little tirade that is presumably about Gov. Riley, he can't help mentioning himself over and over.

Total BS! There is no such resolution in Masonry! If these clowns had proof it would be bigger news than this.

Yeah, I wonder. Tell me why these two honest and true and good Americans were abruptly removed from the airways after fifteen years of accurate commentary supporting the prime tenets of conservative America.

What? Did their opposition to Republican Governor Bob Riley who lied to the people of Alabama and proposed the greatest tax increase in the history of Alabama set their doom. But lying Bob Riley, sat politically, yesterday, smiling, right next to President Bush.

Yeah, I'd like to know. The understandable vendetta of Russ and Dee was the absurd hypocrisy of illegals aliens being legal in Alabama in a self-righteous modern day Republican world.

A pox on the Alabama Republicans.

"Total BS! There is no such resolution in Masonry! If these clowns had proof it would be bigger news than this."

Apparently they had to go way back to an 1876 resolution in this particular lodge's bylaws to make this accusation.

It never fails to amaze me. Someone gets fired for whatever reason and the next thing you hear out of their mouths is “I was fired because of….”.

And the because of is never about them.

I found it most interesting that because the Grand Lodge of Alabama doesn’t allow African-Americans - aka men of color, aka ---- that one of their members must be a racist.

That is a jump and 11/10ths. Using the same criteria, ex-president Clinton is also a racist as are many many other key political figures (both historic and contemporary).

And, if you want to continue this stupid mud slinging campaign how many other stupid assertions can you make about almost anyone? But, the Lord help you if you make an accurate statement about one of the multitude of “protected sub-species” that inhabit the contemporary political scene!

It is the first question I would think of asking someone before coming to give a political speech. /sarc

I've listened to these boobs over the course of many years because there are not a whole lot of choices in the great City of Birmingham. They are nut jobs without a logical bone in their bodies as demonstrated by this write-up.

They get equally wound up over any and all issues - big and small - that arise from their callers without prioritization or putting them in perspective. They just like to emote and rant. They see a conspiracy behind every rock. My guess is they were pulled because of a lack of ratings. In any case - no loss. AMF

On the contrary, and with all due respect the the Friends of the Widow's Son, and all the Grand Flavors of Free and Accepted Masonry, in my fair South - of whom I am unashamed and proud to be a Son - there is a history of bifurcation, of Lodges for the descendants of African Slaves and Lodges for descendants of Charlemagne.

This hasn't changed, though some Rites turn a blind eye to such distinctions, its ancient tradition, though certainly not as ancient as the Fellowship.

But, in agreement, such "a formal resolution" is ridiculous, as described. The Burden of Proof is on the accuser here.

The Orders don't inscribe such resolutions, and are no more public institutions than Bob Jones University.

To imply the Grand Orders have the political power they once enjoyed in the South (as much in the Black communities as in the "White,") is too late by decades.

It is as if these Radio play-actors had come out and said Gov. Riley's home Church congregation was exclusively White, as it probably is not, though such would not be rare in the South, no longer by compulsion but by choice.

"Pssst. Did you know Gov. Riley's dad went to an all-white public school?"

If they have such a Resolution, present it.

On the Square...

Make a point, plain talker, Russ and Dee happen to be representative of a majority of Alabamans. Do you think that most of Alabamians are nutcases?

Russ, and sometimes Dee, are Jews that bring out the best of Christianity in us all.

Just what, plain talker, is your bitch?

Yeah, So effing what? So is the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus, laRaza, et al. Why aren't Russ and Dee raising a stink about those racist organizations? Could it be because those orgs are racist against whites, and not for whites. Well screw that. As a conservative, I believe in the right of association for everyone. and if a group of whites only wants to associate with other whites, it is their business and no one else's. The government has no business telling private organizations who they can and/or can not associate with.

The issue is none other than the Right to Free Speech. R & D were stepping on Lying Bob Riley's toes so Lying Bob had them censored. Any other issue mentioned is secondary. The voters in Alabama are stupid and have proven it many times by selecting the candidate with the most money ie Luther Strange for Lt. gov. Monday was a sad day for Alabama and the Nation.

Certainly the Masons of Alabama have a Constitutional right to be racially restrictive and Russ Fine has a Constitutional right to report that they are so.

We can't dance around reality and the reality is that the Republican Governor of Alabama is a cartoon politician.

And (may God help us all) the Democrat candidate was worse.

I don't think Russ and Dee are representatives of much of anything. They are just nutcases without sufficient comparative analytical and logical reasoning capabilities. Hotheads like Michael Savage.

What you think, plain talk, matters little.
What is guaranteed by our Constitution is what counts.

Like, for example, your right to call Michael Savage a hothead; and your right to declare Russ and Dee representative of nothing, and, without stating your reasoning, name-calling them all "nutcases" at your pleasure.

Young children do it all the time.

Russ and Dee represent Russ and Dee, Sparky.

The notion that they're a reflection of the populus of Alabama is an overstatement at best and a complete fabrication at worst.

Don't worry, though...small children do that all the time.

LMAO

Let's see now..."plain talk" called me "Chum" and "jra" called me "Sparky" and although Russ and Dee and the voters soundly defeated Bob Riley's one and a half billion dollar tax increase at the polls, jra finds Russ and Dee to be out of step with the Alabama people.

And he is LHAO...alone.
