Britain has a laissez-faire approach to dealing with extremists who
promote
terror. Finsbury Park Mosque became notorious when the hook
handed-cleric
Abu Hamza took up residence there, intimidating the mosque trustees
with
threats of violence. Hamza lost both his hands and one eye. He claimed
that
he lost these while clearing landmines in Afghanistan. The reality is
that
he fudged one of his lessons in bomb-making while at the Al Qaeda-run
Darunta training camp near Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan, and blew
himself
up with his own bomb.
Hamza preached jihad at the Finsbury Park mosque for years, saying that
it
was acceptable to kill unbelievers, but particularly to kill Jews, whom
he
described as "the first monkey and the first ape". He said to
followers:
"Killing an adulterer, even if he is a Muslim is OK. Killing a Kaffir
who is
fighting you is OK. Killing a Kaffir for any reason you can say it is
OK
even if there is no reason for it."
He had eventually been ousted from the mosque, where he had been one of
its
trustees. His replacement as mosque imam was his friend Abu Abdullah
(Attila
Ahmet), who also justified armed jihad. Abdullah told PBS Broadcasting
in
October 2004: "Allah mentioned jihad in the Quran 26 times, and Allah
mentioned quital 79 times. Quital is fighting by a physical fighting --
79
times."
Hamza's rule at Finsbury Park ended a month after a raid took place at
the
mosque on Monday, January 30, 2003. Abu Abdallah's reign came to a
close on
February 8, 2005, when a newly appointed Board of Trustees arrived with
police and changed the locks.
On February 7 this year, Abu Hamza was finally jailed for soliciting
murder.
Only then were the full findings of the 2003 raid made public. Three
starting pistols, which could easily be reassigned to firing live
rounds, a
stun gun, knives, CS gas and chemical and nuclear warfare protective
suits
were found in the mosque. Also, hidden behind ceiling tiles, dozens of
forged documents were discovered, including driving licenses and
passports
On September 1 this year, Abu Abdallah was also arrested and taken into
custody. He is charged with eight counts, including encouraging the
murder
of non-Muslims (soliciting to murder), and publishing a statement
encouraging the public to commit acts of terrorism.
The new Board of Trustees for Finsbury Park Mosque had been appointed
on
February 1, 2006. The media hailed the new management. Where Hamza's
so-called "mosqueteers" had earlier hung a banner from the mosque
stating
"Islam: Britain's Future", a new banner was placed, stating: "A new
beginning for the mosque". The BBC hailed the change in management as
"a
fresh start."
It was widely touted that the new Board of Trustees was representing
the
"moderate" Islamic community. It has been renamed the North London
Mosque.
But the mosque's trustees were co-ordinated by the Muslim Association
of
Britain (MAB), who placed one of their senior members, Mohammed Sawalha
(pictured) as one of the trustees.
The Muslim Association of Britain claims that it is "moderate", but its
leading figures are associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. MAB was
founded
in 1997 by Kamal Tawfik el-Helbawy, who was then the Brotherhood's
European
spokesman. MAB's current spokesperson is Azzam al-Tamimi, who was also
a
former Muslim Brotherhood activist in Jordan. Tamimi, who also runs the
pretentiously-titled "Institue for Political Thought" has openly
condemned
the suicide bombings which took place in London on July 7, 2005.
Despite publicly condemning the London attacks which killed 52 people,
Tamimi supports suicide attacks against Israel. He said on BBC TV in
November 2004 that such an act would be a "noble cause" and said that
he
would do it himself "if I had the opportunity."
Tamimi is sensitive to criticism. He threatened to sue Jewish member of
parliament for Liverpool Riverside, Louise Ellman, if she repeated
comments
she had made in parliament. Ms. Ellman had launched into a spirited
attack
on MAB and Tamimi on December 18, 2003. No quivering lily, Ellman
responded
to Tamimi's threats and reiterated her accusations outside parliament.
Tamimi never sued her, as the evidence of his support for terrorism
against
Israel is widely documented.
Ellman said in parliament: "It is time that the spotlight fell on the
Muslim
Association of Britain, particularly the key figures, such as Azzam
Tamimi,
Kamal el Helbawy, Anas Al-Tikriti and Mohammed Sawalha. All of them are
connected to the terrorist organiaation Hamas. The Muslim Association
of
Britain itself is a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood - an extremist
fundamentalist organization founded in Egypt in 1928, and the spiritual
ideologue of all Islamic terror organizations. It is militantly
anti-Semitic
and always has been."
Louise Ellman also noted that MAB had invited American imam Anwar Al
Awlaki
to talk in Britain in June 2003. Awlaki was the spiritual adviser of
two of
the 9/11 attackers, Khalid Almihdar and Nawaf Alhazmi,. Twice busted
for
soliciting prostitutes in San Diego, Awlaki is still regarded by many
Muslim
websites as a "pure voice" of Islam. He fled to Yemen, and on August 31
this
year, he was arrested in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, suspected of
involvement
in terror networks.
But the most interesting figure in MAB is Mohammed Kassem Sawalha, one
of
the Board of Trustees at the mosque in Finsbury Park. He had come to
Britain
in 1990 from the West Bank, and for reasons that defy belief, he has
been
granted residence in Britain. Not only is Sawalha linked to the Muslim
Brotherhood, but also he is directly linked to the Brotherhood's
bastard
offspring, the terror group Hamas.
Hamas was not designated as a terrorist entity by the US Treasury until
August 22, 2003, but its notorious "charter" explains clearly its aims
to
destroy Israel by force.
Even after Sawalha entered the United Kingdom and set up a comfortable
house
here, he continued to collect funds to send to Hamas' military wing.
The
military wing of Hamas began attacking Israeli soldiers in 1989, two
years
after its foundation. It later moved towards attacks against Jewish
citizens, with its first suicide bombing carried out in April 1994.
Sawalha maintains that he has helped Hamas' social wing, but Israeli
and
other analysts have shown that funds for the social wing get diverted
into
"military" operations. In the West Bank, Sawalha went under the
code-name
Abu Abada. Even the BBC, via its journalist John Ware, has confirmed
that in
1992, Sawalha received a Hamas operative into his house and gave him
funds
to distribute to the terror group in the Palestinian territories. This
man,
Mohammed Salah, had arrived from the US, and was en route to the
Palestinian
territories.
According to John Ware: "With Sawalha's agreement Salah began
distributing
about a quarter of a million dollars to local Hamas operatives. Some
was ear
marked for military activities. Some for missionary dawah. More money
was in
the pipe line from his bank in Chicago."
Mohammed Salah was arrested by the Israeli authorities in March 1993
and was
jailed. He was interrogated extensively. An extradition request by
Israel,
made in a New York court in May 1996 against Abu Marzook, then the
leader of
Hamas political wing, refers to Mohammed Salah and his testimony. He
said:
"After Abu Abada left the West Bank for the West, he called me through
Musa
Abu Marzook and I met both of them. The following came up during the
meeting: The military situation in the West Bank is frozen and it has
to be
revived by means of the following people, whom Abu Abada knows: (names
deleted)."
"They [Israeli interrogators] asked me about the charity associations
who
gave me the money and I told them the money was deposited by Abu Abada.
I
don't know what the source is exactly, but there are 31 charity
institutions
collecting funds for the Islamic world. The mosques also collected
funds for
the deportees during the Friday prayers, immediately after the
deportation."
John Ware states that although Sawalha (aka Abu Abada) was known by
MI5,
Britain's Homeland Security intelligence service, the authorities let
him
operate freely here. According to Dr Reuven Paz, former head of the
Research
Division, Israel General Security Service: "Maybe even in London, I
would
say, he (Sawalha) became more important for Hamas than during the
period he
was in the territories."
The newly re-named Finsbury Park Mosque is now under the influence of
the
Muslim Association of Britain. This group, described as a front for the
Muslim Brotherhood, organized protests in February 11, condemning the
Jyllands-Posten cartoons of Mohammed. When the mosque was attacked by
vandals in September this year, a spokesman for MAB, Haris Bokhari,
said the
attack "smacks of extremism and is reminiscent of the infamous "wars of
religion" that plagued Europe in the sixteenth and seventeenth
centuries,
now seen as the historical pinnacle of religious intolerance."
In July, while other people were commemorating the first anniversary of
the
7/7 attacks of 2005, Mohammed Sawalha organized a celebration of Islam,
called the "Islam Expo". This event was held at Alexandra Palace, on a
hill
overlooking most of London. The "Islam Expo" claimed to be promoting an
image of the "real Islam". With its organizer being a former Hamas
commander, it is no wonder that among the proposed speakers to the
"Expo"
were individuals accused of supporting terrorism, such as Tariq
Ramadan,
Azzam al-Tamimi, and also the head of the Islamist coalition in
Pakistan,
Qazi Hussein Ahmad.
Ahmad is leader of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ama (MMA), a coalition of
Islamist
parties, which opposed reforms to the dire rape laws in Pakistan. These
laws
stated that a woman who claimed to be raped and did not provide four
male
Muslim witnesses was accused of adultery. Many rape victims have been
jailed
under these laws. Qazi Hussain Ahmad has advocated suicide bombings in
Iraq,
Israel, Chechnya and Kashmir. His party, Jamaat-e-Islami, boasts of its
close ties to Hamas. He himself has praised al-Qaeda members as heroes.
In the end, Ahmad could not appear at the Islam Expo, but the fact that
he
was even invited to "promote real Islam" says a lot about what Mohammed
Sawalha and the Muslim Association of Britain consider to be the "real
Islam."
Finsbury Park Mosque, now the North London Mosque, claims to be in the
hands
of "moderate" Muslims. With Mohammed Sawalha on its Board of Trustees,
perhaps we should start to redefine what the word "moderate" actually
means.

Paving way for trial to start, a special court on Thursday opened
sealed
envelopes containing confessions of 11 accused in the July 11 Mumbai
train
blasts and accepted material submitted by Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) to
prove its case.
Remanding 13 accused to judicial custody till December 26, the
designated
judge of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Court
Mrudula
Bhatkar opened the confessions sent to her by the authorities before
whom
the accused had given their statements.
The court, however, did not read out the confessions, copies of which
were
given to defence advocates. The contents of the confessions have not
been
made public yet.
The ATS submitted material they had collected in the case and the court
said
it would record each of the articles during the next hearing on
December 26.
The court will also hear bail applications filed by two of the accused,
Ehtesham Siddiqui and Dr Tanveer Ansari, on the same day.
On November 30, ATS filed a 10,667-page chargesheet naming
Lashkar-e-Taiba's
Pakistan-based leader Azeem Cheema as the prime conspirator.
In all, 187 persons were killed and over 400 injured in blasts on seven
commuter trains during evening peak hours at various points in the
city.
Those held in judicial custody are Kamal Ansari, Dr Tanvir Ansari,
Faisal
Shaikh, Ehtesham Siddiqui, Mohammed Shafi, Shaikh Mohammed Ali,
Mohammed
Ansari, Abdul Wahid Shaikh, Muzammil Shaikh, Soheil Shaikh, Zamir
Shaikh,
Naved Khan and Asif Khan Bashir Khan alias Junaid.

"Thieves Kill Two Clerks During Convenience Store Robbery"
Metro Detectives feel a sense of urgency as they investigate a
brutal convenience store robbery. Police hope surveillance video
will help them track down a pair of killers who shot and killed two
store clerks and shot and wounded a customer. It happened at the "AM
and PM" Discount Tobacco store on Gallatin Pike in Madison. Police
say two masked gunmen entered the store around 9:30 Tuesday night
and demanded money. The gunmen became aggravated when the store
clerks began talking to each other in Arabic. The two suspects then
opened fire. The two victims have been identified as 23 year old
Salama Estfanous and 24 year old Bishouy Hanna. A second person was
wounded; he is listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt.
The suspects, described as a white man and a black man, did get
away. Police are on the look out for an SUV that was seen, shortly
after the robbery, driving south on Gallatin Pike with it's head

UFO Crashes in Russia’s Siberia
An unidentified flying object has crashed in Krasnoyarsk Region, Siberia, causing a forest fire, the RIA-Novosti news agency reported on Friday.The crash took place in the taiga between the towns of Yeniseisk and Lesosibirsk, the agency said quoting the local Interior Ministry directorate. The crash was reported by local villagers and traces of forest fire can be seen on the site. Air traffic officials said that no aircraft were scheduled to fly in the region at the time of the crash and no air vessels were missing.A group formed of police investigators, representatives of the Transport Prosecutors Service and representatives of the aircraft safety watchdog Rosavianadzor has started to the site of the crash from Krasnoyarsk. Local Emergencies Directorate has sent a helicopter to the site.

The war against Jihadist terrorism is the defining issue of our time. For more than 25 years America has been attacked—and continues to be attacked—by Jihadist terrorist groups bent on the destruction of our way of life. This war is different than any war in our history and we must fight on fronts on which we have never fought before—geographically, ideologically, and practically.
One of those fronts is the financial front. Terrorism costs money. Nuclear weapons components cost money too. America must do all it can to cut off the funding of our sworn enemies in Tehran. Unfortunately, right now, not only are we largely failing to cut off that funding, but we are actually unwittingly and indirectly funding our terrorist enemies who are hell bent on building nuclear weapons. This must stop.
Average investors in pensions and mutual funds whose investors include police, sheriff deputies, firefighters, and first responders, are unwittingly investing in companies that provide critical hard currency, political security blankets, and dual use technology to states, particularly Iran, threatening American security interests. In addition, companies our universities own through their endowments are providing large scale flows, advanced technologies, equipment and expertise to governments like that of Iran which support terrorism and have active nuclear weapons programs. Without the trade of these companies, the Ayatollahs might be hard-pressed to meet their nations’ basic requirements, let alone fund terrorist groups and build ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.
While America executes its war on terrorism, Iran provides life support for our enemies. This assistance comes in the form of hidden training facilities, access to computers and communications devices, weapons, political cover and much needed funding. Reports even cite a possible doomsday scenario in which Iran could conceivably provide supplies and technical support for terrorist groups seeking to assemble and detonate a weapon of mass destruction. Among the groups that Iran has been known to support: Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and HAMAS, easily the four most active Jihadist terrorist groups in the world.
One might ask how Iran finances their support for international terrorism or multi-billion-dollar WMD and missile programs. Toward that end, nearly two years ago, the Center for Security Policy launched an initiative called DivestTerror.org.
There are over 400 mostly foreign companies that have chosen to have extensive business ties to terrorist-sponsoring nations, of which Iran has often been described as the most active. Our state public pension systems (with a few exceptions), university endowments, mutual funds and other financial institutions are heavily invested in those 400 companies, even though U.S. companies are forbidden from doing business with countries like Iran.
So chances are, your investment money is being sent to the Ayatollahs.
Terror and the U.S. Capital Markets
To provide a sense of the magnitude of Americans’ investments in companies partnering with state-sponsors of terror, in August 2004, the Center for Security Policy released “The Terrorism Investments of the 50 States”, a 120 page report that focused on a single component of the investment community: 100 of the Nation’s leading public pension funds. The study is the first national security-based statistical analysis of the investment patterns of America’s leading public pension funds.
Profiling 87 of the top 100 public pension equity investments, the report shed light on the connections between U.S. State Department-designated terrorist sponsoring states (Iran being chief among them), the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missiles, global public companies and tens of millions of American investors. This analysis arrived at a stunning conclusion: These funds alone have approximately $188 billion invested in companies that do business with our enemies’ sponsors. In so doing, the Center for Security Policy painted a stark picture of how the economic life-blood of terrorist-sponsoring rogue regimes is being underwritten by the pension systems and other investment portfolios of Americans.
• On average, the top 100 public pension funds were invested in 73 companies doing business in Iran.
In addition to public pension systems, universities comprise another major part of what is known as the institutional investor community (Institutional investors are investment funds with more than $500 million under management). They are also the largest owners of the publicly-traded companies that provide the life-blood of terrorist-sponsoring states.
To be sure, not all of this money is finding its way into the hands of terrorists. Not all of it is even going to their state-sponsors. Still, it is surely the case that a significant fraction—either through taxes or arrangements for future energy rights—of the investments being made by publicly traded companies is translating into “found money” for the rogue state regimes.
It has been suggested by some naïve individuals that just because a company or subsidiary has a business tie to a country on the State Department’s terrorism list does not mean that it is in some way aiding and abetting our enemies. In other words, that it is a faulty premise that doing business in Iran contributes to the coffers of terrorists.
That theory defies logic. Let us take a closer look at the case of Iran.
• According to the State Department and the CIA, Iran is the most active state sponsor of terrorism in the world.
• Iran is the chief sponsor of Hezbollah, the Jihadist terror group that in 1983 killed 241 U.S. Marines, sailors and soldiers in a suicide bomb attack in Beirut, Lebanon, attacked the U.S. embassy in Beirut in the same manner, killing 18, hijacked a TWA airliner on board which its thugs murdered U.S. Navy diver Robert Stetham, kidnapped and murdered U.S. Marine Colonel William Higgins, and bombed the U.S. Air Force Khobar Towers barracks in Saudi Arabia, killing 19.
• According to the 9/11 Commission, Iran has extensive ties with, and has provided safe haven for members of Al Qaeda, the group that bombed two U.S. embassies in east Africa, attacked the USS Cole, killing 18 U.S. sailors and, of course, carried out the horrific attacks on September 11th, 2001.
• As has been widely reported by news organizations, evidence indicates Iran has a clandestine nuclear weapons program disguised as a peaceful nuclear power program.
• It is known—because they brag about it often—that Iran has a significant and growing ballistic missile arsenal.
Because of these activities, the United States has made it illegal for U.S. companies to do business in and with Iran.
Where do you suppose Iran gets the money to train, harbor, arm and support terrorists, build at least 15 nuclear facilities, and develop ballistic missiles?
According to WorldTribune.com, Iran garnered $35 Billion in revenue from oil in 2005. Iran has the world’s second largest natural gas reserves. Yet, without western technology, expertise and equipment, Iran would be hard-pressed to produce, transport and export its oil and gas. With less money, Iran would not be able to be as active in terrorism, might not be able to afford a huge nuclear program and might not have as many ballistic missiles.
In fact it has long been recognized that discouraging business activities in Iran’s energy sector could diminish the Ayatollahs’ ability to sponsor terrorism and fund expensive nuclear and missile programs.
According to former Clinton under Secretary of State Peter Tarnoff, “A straight line links Iran's oil income and its ability to sponsor terrorism, build weapons of mass destruction, and acquire sophisticated armaments. Any government or private company that helps Iran to expand its oil must accept that it is contributing to this menace.”

Dmitry Kovtun, a Russian businessman, a witness on the Litvinenko case against whom criminal proceedings were instituted in Germany, cannot give any explanations on how he left a radioactive trace in Hamburg, Russian news agency ITAR-TASS reports. Kovtun alleges that the trace of polonium-210 found out in his organism was a result of his meeting with the former Russian security service officer Alexander Litvinenko in the middle of October this year, judging from his statement yesterday night in a telephone interview to the German satellite TV channel Spiegel TV.
“The only explanation (of presence in my organism) of traces of polonium I can give is that I have brought them in my body from London where I met Alexander Litvinenko on October, 16, 17 and 18", Kovtun told Spiegel TV. Kovtun, who has lived in Hamburg for 12 years, expressed regret over having troubled the German public so much and said he was feeling better by day, though he would stay in the hospital for “a week or 10 days."
Kovtun’s friend speaks out to Hamburg newspaper
German daily Hamburger Morgenpost has attempted to clear out who, in fact, is Dmitry Kovtun and whether a murder can be credited to him. According to the paper, the 41-year-old Russian, who had lived twelve years in Hamburg, plays a leading role in the agent's thriller around polonium 210 and the death of Kremlin critic Alexander Litvinenko. It is sure only that he himself should be radiation-contaminated; several apartments in Hamburg and the environs where he stayed are contaminated as well. Hamburger Morgenpost spoke to a man who knows Kovtun very well: Alexei D. (42, name changed), a Russian, who also has lived long in Hamburg. He is said to be one of Kovtun’s best friends.
Alexei believes Dmitry Kovtun “would be never able of a murder”. He supposes Kovtun might have played a useful idiot for the real informants without anticipating it. On November 1, Kovtun and his associate Andrei Lugovoy were among the last who met in London with Litvinenko, who fell fatally ill the same night. Alexei told the paper that Kovtun and Lugovoy knew themselves for more than 20 years. They had graduated from the same Moscow officers’ school, they were old pals. Kovtun came first as a lieutenant to Czechoslovakia, later as a captain to the German Democratic Republic (GDR). When the Russian troops left reunified East Germany, Kovtun stayed behind, deserted. In Hamburg he applied for asylum, lived the first years in an Asylum-seeker's home in Blankensee. Then Kovtun got acquainted to Marina W., a German Russian from Siberia know whose mother, a former psychologist, was very well-to-do. Alexei says they probably were in love, too, however, it was a matter for him to obtain a permanent stay approval from the authorities.
Asked to comment Kovtun’s business activity, Alexei smiled. To him his job title of a management consultant seemed too pompous, he called Kovtun "rather that one calls a windy profit-seeker”. The first years in Germany Kovtun had not worked at all, lived from social help. Between 2000 and 2002 he worked as a waiter in the Il porto restaurant, Grosse Elbstrasse, Hamburg. Besides, he was always in search of a big deal in export or import, but he failed every time, according to Alexei. If sometimes he had money, he invested it in alcohol or bought himself Gucci and Versace suits, the paper cites the interviewee. Alexei said still today Kovtun should have debts with several friends in Hamburg.
His ex-wife is ambitious, she has studied in France, works in a Hamburg harbour enterprise, according to Alexei. He says Kovrun did not take her seriously as a personality, he also did not want children and so it came to separation. After Kovtun got convinced that no punishment threatens him in Russia because of the desertion, he returned in 2002 to Moscow. There he had tried some small business, then met his old companion Lugovoy. Alexei does not know what exactly the both cook up, as he has lost Kovtun of sight. The paper’s interlocutor says Kovtun has never been a KGB agent as it has been lately over and over again maintained. "He is a show-off, one the mouth far bursts and deceives his surroundings by nice light. But nothing lies behind." Alexei thinks it is likely that Kovtun has believed that the meeting in London is about a very big business and he can get a lot of money out of it.
Hamburg police ask Russia for help in Kovtun case
Hamburg police investigating the case of Russian businessman Dmitry Kovtun, linked to Alexander Litvinenko’s radiation poisoning affair in London, have requested Russia's help, RIA Novosti reported yesterday, referring to a police spokesman.
Ralf Meyer said on German television that the investigative team had already asked its Russian colleagues to answer some questions, but received no response. "Therefore, we have sent an official request to Russia through the German Federal Prosecutor's Office asking for help," Meyer is quoted by the news agency as saying. Meyer pointed out German investigators suspect Kovtun, who has a residence permit in Germany, of having illegally transported nuclear materials.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office is ready to provide any legal aid to the German authorities as part of their investigation into claims of the illegal import of radioactive substances to the country, which mention Russian citizen Dmitry Kovtun, news agency Interfax reported afternoon. "We have not received an official request from Germany regarding the matter. Should it arrive, the Prosecutor General's Office will be ready to provide the authorities of Germany with any legal aid in accordance with Russian legislation and international agreements," a spokesman for the Prosecutor General's Office told the Interfax today.
In Russia, Kovtun is being kept at a clinic run by the Federal Medico-Biological Agency of Russia, which is sealed off. He is treated as a witness in the case of Alexander Litvinenko, an FSB defector who died November 23 of a fatal dose of radioactive polonium-210. He has been questioned by Russian prosecutors and Scotland Yard detectives, currently in Moscow investigating the case. Speaking on Russian state-controlled 1 Kanal TV channel yesterday, Kovtun said he was feeling better, but would stay in the hospital for “a week or 10 days."
An unnamed Russian businessman who flew from Moscow to Hamburg on October 28 with Kovtun is also being sought, according to The Times. Police believe this flight was used to transport polonium-210 into Europe.

Yulia Svetlichnaya, a Russian woman who tried to discredit the poisoned former security service officer Alexander Litvinenko has since attacked Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. Svetlichnaya wasn’t happy that Aftenposten’s correspondent in London uncovered her links to a mysterious Russian investment company.
Svetlichnaya uses to identify herself as a student in London who had contact with Alexander Litvinenko before he died. She told British newspapers that Litvinenko, who was a harsh critic of Russian President, had aimed to extort money from Russian politicians and businessmen. Aftenposten, however, found Svetlichnaya listed as information chief on the web site for a company called Russian Investors. The daily marks that the ownership of the firm is unclear, but it's been linked to the Russian state in British media. Its chairman Aleksey Golubovich, a former strategic planner for the Russian oil giant Yukos that was taken over by the state, was arrested in May by Interpol and Italian police in Pisa, Aftenposten marks.
When the paper’s correspondent Hilde Harbo called Russian Investors to inquire about Svetlichnaya's connections to the company, her questions went unanswered and Svetlichnaya's name was quickly removed from the web site. The London student also refused to respond to repeated queries from Aftenposten, but she reappeared late last week at a press conference in London. When Harbo attempted to ask questions about her role at Russian Investors, she was cut off and verbally attacked. A man appearing with Svetlichnaya, identified as a fellow student, James Heartfield, called Harbo a "liar" and attempted to block further questioning.
Some Russian experts have suggested that Svetlitsjnaja may have been set up by Russian officials to discredit Litvinenko, Aftenposten underlines. The paper points out that she admitted she had no taped interviews or documentation to prove that Litvinenko was engaged in extortion, and said she failed to alert police about Litvinenko's alleged extortion plans because she was too busy with research work.
MI5 told Litvinenko his life is in danger – Limarev interviewed
Alexander Litvinenko was warned by British and American secret agents that his life was in danger because of his ties with exiled Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, The Mail on Sunday reveals.
Litvinenko told his Italian contact Mario Scaramella at their now-infamous lunch at a sushi restaurant that he had 'interrupted' his work with Berezovsky on 'US and British advice'. Scaramella then told another Russian intelligence expert, Yevgeni Limarev that Litvinenko had recently fallen out with Berezovsky. He told The Mail on Sunday that Scaramella told him that Litvinenko had been warned by agents. The paper emphasizes that it is the first suggestion of the involvement of Western intelligence agents in the intrigue and the most direct hint that Litvinenko could have been targeted because of his ties to Berezovsky's circle.
Limarev, 41, admits to links with Russian intelligence agencies but denies reports that he was ever a listed KGB officer. He fled Russia seven years ago after falling out with influential politicians and businessmen in Moscow. He told the paper he was not the sole source of the information that Scaramella used as a pretext to arrange the November 1lunch. Limarev produced the extract from the email in an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday last week at a location near his safe house in the French Alps. Limarev also is said to have warned that both Scaramella and Litvinenko were at risk of being killed by renegade members of Spetsnaz, the Russian elite unit attached to the intelligence section of the army, because of their criticism of Russian President.
Limarev also claimed that he was the victim of a suspicious robbery in Rome on the day that news of Litvinenko's condition broke. While he was in Italy, a bag containing Limarev's personal papers and house keys were stolen. Three days later the keys were used to try to gain entry to his safe house 500 miles away -- but the locks had already been changed. Limarev said very few people knew he was in Italy and knew where he was staying.
He doesn't think Scaramella was Litvinenko's killer, the paper concludes. Limarev said he also thought the two Russians who met Litvinenko later that afternoon were used: the killers must have followed him for weeks, and then decided that this was the perfect day to do the hit. Limarev, whose father was a senior KGB officer, says he retains good sources in the Russian intelligence services, according to The Mail on Sunday.

Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports that the ex-employee of security services Yevgeny Limarev has said he had never accused secret services veterans’ association Honour and Dignity "of participation in Alexander Litvinenko's poisoning". The representative of the fund of veterans has already named these statements " full delirium ".
Limarev has reportedly told Ekho Moskvy that in the documents that Italian Mario Scaramella transferred to Litvinenko there was no information that could become a reason for elimination of the latter. The documents contained mentioning only about Scaramella himself and the head of the Mitrokhin commission, Italian senator, Paolo Guzzanti, the radio station has quoted Limarev as saying.

Member of the Communist Party of the Russia (KPRF), veteran of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Pavel Basanets has made an unpleasant surprise at the veterans’ solemn assembly, devoted to the 86th anniversary of the Russia’s foreign intelligence, daily MK reports. The Communist has called President Putin to retire, and the State Duma — to dismiss, to be hold democratic elections. Leadership of the Communist Party of the Russia is in a deep shock. Basanets has named Putin a guarantor of safe enrichment of oligarches and his foreign friends, who in such a way has betraid the officer’s honour, the oath and the people.
For Gennady Zyuganov, the leader of the party, the speech of his party comrade was as a bolt from the blue, MK notes. Zyuganov himself criticizes the head of the state only in soft and correct expressions. Recently the leader of the Communist Party accompanied Putin to Hanoi onboard his plane and following his private invitation. Secondly, Basanets spoke just before Zyuganov's meeting with Putin. Oleg Kulikov who is responsible for the information and analysis work in the party, said it was “at least is uncorrect — before Gennady Andreevich's [Zyuganov] meeting with the head of the state”. Vladimir Kashin, Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party told the MK that now the party’s central commission would considers the matter of Basanets’ behaviour.
Meanwhile an official announcement has appeareed on the online site of the SVR press department. It says that the Organizational Bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Veterans public organization comments on the arisen situation, underlining that the conclusion is false about “the colleagues’ support to Basanets”. It is stated that “the rough prolonged applause” during Basanets’ performance actually was expression of loud negative attitude of the audience towards the speaker.
The paper adds that Pavel Basanets was born in 1956, graduated from the higher school of the KGB of the USSR. He is an expert on the countries of the East, served in the SVR, has a good command of Chinese, English, Indonesian and Malayan languages.

Police Raid San Jose, CA Home In Search For Laser
Light Shone In Cockpits Of Planes Landing At KSJC
Police in San Jose, CA raided a home this week, in the latest attempt
to
find the source of blinding laser light that is being flashed into
commercial aircraft cockpits trying to land at Mineta International
Airport.
The search did not turn up any sign of the laser.
"We received several calls from the FAA and also from some citizens
stating
that there was a green laser emanating from a residence pointing at
some
commercial airliners," said Serge Palanov, spokesman from the Santa Clara
Sheriff's Department. "Our own helicopter -- Star One -- went up in the
air
into vicinity and they also experienced this green laser pointing at
them."
Small lasers, used commonly as light pointers, can beam a high
intensity
light over a long distances. If the beam were to strike a pilot's eyes,
it
could blind him or her.
"It can temporarily blind you for that split second and then it takes
you
another 20- 30 minutes for your eyes to readjust fully to see outside
that
cockpit again," San Francisco International Airport spokesman Mike
McCarron
told KTVU-2. "Because what you want the pilots to do is to be able to
see
outside the cockpit -- see other aircraft... see obstacles...
obstructions
lights... the flashing red lights on radio towers and stuff like
that…It
can be very critical on the most critical part of the flight."
A recent analysis by the FAA states in a three month period ending in
January of last year, lasers were aimed at aircraft 84 times throughout
the
nation. That's almost once a day -- and half of those were aimed at
airliners.
"This could be punished as a felony with state prison time," Palanov
said,
adding police plan to increase their search for the culprit. "This is a
very
serious offense."

Putin reported 'furious' over US payment for Lebanon war, CIA Egypt terror ring

Reports from the Kremlin today are portraying President Putin as being 'furious' with the American War Leader Bush over his breaking of a promise to the Russian President to not provide US funding to the Israelis for their Lebanese War. Less than 3 weeks after making this promise the United States used a little known provision in their security agreements with Israel to fully pay for the war, and as we can read as reported by Israel's Ynet News Service in their article titled "US to double emergency equipment stored in Israel", and which says:
"The American Congress gave Israel financial and security encouragement when the Senate and the House of Representatives gave their approval to double the emergency equipment the United States stores in Israeli stockpiles. Within the next two years the Americans will fill the military emergency stockpiles in Israel with double the equipment they now hold.
In addition, the US will allow Israel to use the remainder of the US's monetary guarantees given to them that have not been used yet, and add up to USD 4.5 billion, by 2011. The emergency stockpiles are meant to store American military equipment in the Middle East in case of an emergency. However, in case of an emergency, Israel is allowed to use the stockpiles. The bill was approved by the Senate and House and it renewed authority to transfer equipment to be stored in Israel.
A great portion of the American equipment stored in Israel last year was used for combat in the summer war in Lebanon."
In an even greater affront to Russia, and its supposed Middle Eastern ally Egypt, these reports also accuse the United States of operating a CIA/French Intelligence backed terror ring on Egyptian territory for the recruitment of foreign fighters to be deployed in the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars, but which Egyptian authorities had infiltrated and arrested the American and French Ringleaders, and as we can read as reported by the Forbes News Service in their article titled "Egypt Releases Details on American Man", and which says:
"Security officials in Egypt released new details Monday about an American man in their custody on suspicion of links to a terror network which allegedly recruits Muslims to fight the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq. In Washington, the administration said Monday it expected an American detained in Egypt as a suspected terrorist to be freed.
The American was arrested late last month along with 11 Europeans and an unknown number of Egyptians and Arabs from other countries who were accused of belonging to an Islamist terror cell plotting attacks. Egyptian authorities expelled eight French citizens and two Belgians on Thursday. Another French citizen was in custody along with the American.
The State Department has criticized Egypt for refusing to grant U.S. officials timely access to the arrested American."
Egyptian authorities became further outraged when the French Intelligence Agents plotting with the CIA, and who were deported to France with the understanding that they would be prosecuted, were released by French Authorities, and as we can read as reported by the International Herald Tribune in their article titled "French police release 8 terror suspects expelled from Egypt", and which says:
"French anti-terrorist police have freed eight Frenchmen accused by Egyptian authorities of plotting attacks in the Middle East and expelled from Egypt, judicial officials said Sunday. The eight Frenchmen were arrested upon their arrival in France on Friday. The DSAT anti-terrorist agency released four Saturday, and four more Sunday, the judicial officials said."
Aside from the tragedy of the American and French Governments having to recruit combatants to fight against their own soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is with noted irony that the CIA finds one of its own operatives in the custody of the Egyptian secret police forces at the same time that Italian authorities are preparing to indict 26 CIA agents for the kidnapping and turning over to those same Egyptian secret police an Egyptian Cleric, and as we can read as reported by the AP News Service in their article titled "Italian Court Moves Closer To Indicting CIA Agents", and which says:
"Italy has set a date to bring possible indictments against its own intelligence service in the case of an Egyptian cleric. Over 30 U.S. and Italian intelligence agents may face charges after the extraordinary rendition of Egyptian cleric Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr in Milan.
According to prosecutors, 26 US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agents and five officials from the Italian Military Intelligence and Security Service (SISMI), including former SISMI chief Nicola Pollari, were involved in the abduction, where Nasr was sent to Egypt and tortured."
To the much greater danger of these actions by the United States, however, is the fueling of tensions and hostilities in a part of the World that needs little more incentive to ignite our entire Globe into a scenario of Total War.

Proud to be a Soldier!!! From the daughter of a Soldier:
Last week I was in Trenton, Ontario attending a conference. While I was
in
the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning
to
clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the
greatest acts of patriotism I have ever seen.
Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in their uniforms, as
they
began heading to their gate everyone (well almost everyone) was
abruptly to
their feet with their hands waving and cheering. When I saw the
soldiers,
probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for it hit me. I'm
not
alone. I'm not the only red blooded Canadian who still loves this
country
and supports our troops and their families.
Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young
unsung
heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we
can go
to school, work and home without fear or reprisal. Just when I thought
I
could not be more proud of my country or of our service men and women a
young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old, ran up to one of the male
soldiers. He kneeled down and said "Hi," the little girl then she asked
him
if he would give something to her daddy for her. The young soldier, he
didn't look any older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what
did
she want to give to her daddy. Then suddenly the little girl grabbed
the
neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and
then
kissed him on the cheek.
The mother of the little girl, who said her daughter's name, was
Courtney,
told the young soldier that her husband was a Corporal and had been in
Afghanistan for 11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her
daughter, Courtney, missed her father, the young soldier began to tear
up.
When this temporarily single mom was done explaining her situation, all
of
the soldiers huddled together for a brief second. Then one of the other
servicemen pulled out a military looking walkie-talkie. They started
playing
with the device and talking back and forth on it.
After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over
to
Courtney, bent down and said this to her, "I spoke to your daddy and he
told
me to give this to you." He then hugged this little girl that he had
just
met and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He
finished by saying "your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you
more
than anything and he is coming home very soon."
The mom at this point was crying almost uncontrollably and as the young
soldier stood to his feet he saluted Courtney and her mom. I was
standing no
more than 6 feet away as this entire event unfolded. As the soldiers
began
to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As
I
stood there applauding and looked around, there were very few dry eyes,
including my own.
That young soldier in one last act of selflessness, turned around and
blew a
kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek.
We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their families and
thank God for them and their sacrifices. At the end of the day, it's
good to
be a Canadian.
Red Friday Just keeping you "in the loop" so you'll know what's going
on in
case this takes off.
RED FRIDAYS ----- Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing
Red
every Friday. The reason? Canadian who support our troops used to be
called
the "silent majority". We are no longer silent, and are voicing our
love for
God, country and home in record-breaking numbers.
Many Canadians, like you, all our friends, and me simply want to
recognize
that the vast majority of Canada supports our troops. Our idea of
showing
solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts
this
Friday -and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come
home,
sending a deafening message that.
Every red-blooded Canadian who supports our men and women afar will
wear
something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the Canada on every Friday a
sea
of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.
If every one of us who loves this country will share this with
acquaintances
co-workers, friends, and family, it will not be long before Canada is
covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent"
majority is
on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.
The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make
things
better for you?" is...We need your support and your prayers. Let's get
the
word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and wear
something red
every Friday.

Over 160 sickened after eating at Olive Garden (Indianapolis)

NDIANAPOLIS - The Marion County Health Department says more than 160 people have claimed they became ill after eating at an Olive Garden restaurant in Indianapolis last weekend.
A health department spokesman says they're trying to isolate the cause and have found no health code violations at the restaurant on the city's north side.

Health officials in Iowa and Minnesota on Wed, 13 Dec 2006, confirmed a
link between _Escherichia coli_ [O157:H7] outbreaks at Taco John's
restaurants that have sickened dozens of customers.
Officials also said that the cause of the outbreak -- which has
sickened at
least 50 people in Iowa and 27 in Minnesota -- has been tied to lettuce
served at Taco John's in 3 cities. Genetic tests linked the cases,
health
officials said.
"It's essentially a DNA fingerprint," said Kevin Teale, a spokesman for
the
Iowa Department of Public Health. "(The tests) tell us that what's
making
people sick in Iowa is exactly the same as what's making people sick in
Minnesota."
Findings from state health officials also confirmed that the _E. coli_
outbreak is not linked to any other illnesses in the USA, including an
outbreak in the north east associated with Taco Bell restaurants.
Preliminary test results this week showed that dozens of Iowans who ate
at
a Taco John's restaurant in Cedar Falls were likely victims of _E.
coli_
infection. The outbreak has sent at least 18 people to hospital.
Minnesota
officials now suspect 27 cases of _E. coli_, with 5 cases confirmed by
state health officials. The Minnesota cases have been linked to 2 Taco
John's restaurants near the Iowa border, in Austin and Albert Lea.
Officials believe the _E. coli_ outbreak in Iowa has been contained,
but
Teale said case numbers were increasing after media coverage and follow
up
interviews by health officials. Officials will now try to trace where
the
outbreak started, a process Teale portrayed as a lengthy and
potentially
difficult process. "It's an extensive trackback process," Teale said.
"We'll look and see what food distributor served the restaurant ... and
then we'll look at the wholesaler."
The Taco John's chain has 430 restaurants in 26 states, Dixon said. He
said
the stores are independently owned and get produce and other food
through
the parent company.
