It is amazing how many seemingly nice people turn very horrible at the mention that abortion is wrong. Also, many can turn ugly at the mention of Jesus. You just don't know what evil can lurk in your seemingly nice neighbor until they have been crossed with the truth (even spoken gently).

I suppose so, but that wasn't really my point. My point was that people who are pro-life often seem to find it convenient to demonize women who have had abortions, because it's easier to think of them as monsters - rather than neighbors, family, and friends.

I know several women who have had numerous miscarriages after earlier abortions. Some of these women were able to have babies by having their cervix sewn shut during pregnancy.

I know one woman who had 4 abortions as a teen (at planned Parenthood); and as an married adult was unable to concieve.

We finally got a Partial birth abortion ban signed. We got abortion again banned by South Dakota. It isn't much, but it is a start. Just think how far away we would be, if the dems were in control!

And stopped using aborted babies as experiments; called "stem cell research".

Nope. Norma never had an abortion! She wanted one. She hoped that the rich lawyer would get her one, but instead she was used to get abortion legalised. Never got an abortion. She actually got to meet her daughter in later years.

Is the act of contrition a public or private one? How would you know if anyone asked God for forgiveness? Is it any of your business?

There's a very simple way to tell in most cases: does the person think that what she did was wrong?

Generally, when people do something wrong and get pangs of concience, they can react one of two ways: (1) admit that it was wrong and try to be better people in future and make such restitution as they can, or (2) try to convince themselves that it wasn't really wrong. When people take approach #2, which almost never works, they often get caught in a cycle of increasing desperation to convince themselves that what they did wasn't wrong when deep down their concience is fully aware that it was.

Ironically, liberals like to brand as hypocrites those who have done wrong things, realized the folly of their ways, and tried to discourage others from making the same mistakes they did. To a liberal, it is much more proper for people to work to ensure that nothing prevents others from falling into the same snares that they did. They believe that the more people commit the wrong actions they did, the less wrong those actions will become.

The message that pro-life people need to put forth more clearly is that good people can be misled into doing very bad things. People who have done bad things can be good people again if they recognize the errors of their ways and counsel others against them. I would expect that most of the support for the pro-choice movement comes from people who feel the only way they can justify themselves (or friends, or loved ones) is if they can somehow make abortion really be "okay". But it isn't, and anothing they can do will change that. The only way to be rid of those pangs of concience is to recognize that what one did was wrong, but that one can be a better person in future.

If that message could take hold, it could generate a sea change that would do much more to end abortion than anything the Supreme Court could do.
