"First of all, he never should have been talking to kids in that way, period."

Nobody argues with that.

" Second, look at his position in congress. What a joke."

They guy is outta there. gone, kaput. career over.
No joke. Yes, should have happened sooner, but its happened now.

Dane's point is correct wrt double-standard ...
We found $90,000 in cash bribe money in William Jefferson's freezer. Foley inappropriately IM'ed a former page...
both bad stuff. Both deserve to be kicked out of Congress pronto ... YET JEFFERSON (Democrat-LA) IS GOING TO GET RE-ELECTED.

I dont see how morals in this country get improved with handing over power to the party of William Jefferson.
I just dont see it.

no.

if you use microsoft's instant messanger you can click under the save. You can also set it to automatically save.

Law and Order gets the law wrong most of the time, not surprising they would botch the computer stuff too.

Tom Delay comes to mind.... I like Tom Delay and what he stands for for the most part...but if a Dem leader had alot of his staff plead guilty to all kinds of crap....then most on FR would crucify him claiming "double standard""

Duh, we keep whining about the double standard because it is very real and happens all the time...

Corrupt Democrat New Jersey senator Menendez who's had big kickbacks and boule-dealing ... NO MEDIA PLAY ... compare with media focus on Delay

Hillary used Jewish epithets in the 1970s ... NO MEDIA PLAY ... compare with Allen and others

Senator Reid and others caught with Abramoff links ... NO MEDIA PLAY ... compare with Burns and others

The list goes on and on. Republicans caught in sex scandals are forced out of office, Democrats caught in sex scandals see their poll numbers go up.

Yes, I'd *LIKE* for Rep Jefferson to be tossed out of Congress pronto, like he deserves, for his illegal activity. WHAT HE DID WAS 100 TIMES WORS THAN ANYTHING DELAY DID. Delay's 'crime' was to take advantage of perqs that hundred other congressmen took advantage of, and to have an association with Abramoff...

This is not about "my side, right or wrong" - I don't see a single person here defending Foley or excusing it. It's just useful to recognize that the liberal media double standard is real and be engaged here.

"The sexually explicit emails that were kept, obviously a set up, are not connected to the non - explicit emails sent to a 16 year old page from Louisiana last year."

This is why I think it is wrong to go after the House leadership on this. Someone else on the forum says ...

"Hastert knew about the non-sexual emails only. Foley was asked about it, and the parents of the boy in question were (must have been) satisfied by the response."

Blaming the House leadership for not knowing the whole story is premature at best ... They took the appropriate action given the information that they had.

Where is Foley now?

The MSM is not asking this REAL question.

Instead they are allowing peosit to prattle on, mutha to mumble about impeachment.

Where is Foley?

He has the answers!

He knows when and what was exposed!

He should be asked if he used IM to evade the house email record system!

Hastert didn't even know the contents of the e-mails. According to Hastert's press release, Representative Alexander didn't even share the text actual e-mails with Hastert, the Clerk of the House or Representative Shimkus because the page's family wanted to maintain as much privacy as possible.

Agreed. Hastert must resign. And anyone else who stood by and allowed this to continue. The foul hypocrisy of it stinks to the very shores of our nation.

Fire every last incumbent of either party. Vote 'em out. It's the only way.

I wish I had asked an old friend of mine (before I lost contact with him) what it was like when he was a page, in approx 1968. I have heard bits and pieces from other sources throughout the years about pages and Congressmen. I wish I could remember the details. I would be SHOCKED if this is the first time.

The only thing I can think of is the highly publicized stings conducted by police, in various states. They only arrest at the meet-up. FL may be different of course.

For the sake of argument, lets say you are the GOP House Speaker, and you tell Foley to resign because of disgusting activity that is not necessarily illegal and still well below the public radar. Foley, armed with the knowledge the teen and his folks and whoever else knows will take the matter to their (or his) graves, says "No way," knowing that Gerry Studds didn't miss a beat after he was exposed?

What's your move? Remember, as House Speaker, you're a politician, not a priest. Do you "out" Foley from out of the clear blue sky, inviting accusations that you are discriminating against him because he has homosexual desires ? Is this a chance you wish to take in the midst of sinking approval ratings for the President and a witch hunt against Tom DeLay?

Declare what you will, I've been posting here since 2000, (I just can't get JimRob to delete my old account.) I'm a True Repuplican who is heartsick at even the thought of this vileness. Even the so-called "innocuous" emails are high on the eyebrow-raising creep factor. And Hastert has been no friend to the GOP.

You collect evidence from other pages and threaten to reveal it if he doesn't step down, and at least retire.

The page was responding to Foley's messages. Either you are willing to do this or not. There is no in-between. These are not 10 year olds. These are young men, well versed in what is available on the web and its' dangers.

No, I don't condone what Foley was doing but neither do I condone Barney Frank and his regiment. Seems the Dems have two different views depending on Party Lines.

And then there's Bubba!!!!!!!

Outing some 16 year old would just be collateral damage, IMO. It wouldn't make me less likely to treat this issue more aggressively. Foley's colleagues could have played hardball on this, but did not.

Macsmind blog has been excellent source of info on the Foley story. He seems to think that the liberal group CREW is the source of ABC's story and they had the info for years. CREW is also quite involved in the Plame story.

Also, an update to Macsmind has the following:

Additionally at least one democratic member of congress had specific knowledge of the emails prior to their release last week, and while no names have been given out, one only has to look at the Melanie Sloan’s bio to get some idea.

From Sloan bio:
In 1994, Ms. Sloan was Counsel for the Crime Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, working for then Representative Charles Schumer.

That makes sense.....and we're right back to "Who Benefits" from weakening the Republican party....HILLARY.

If I had gotten a memo.....blah, blah, blah...

Don't pick on my hubby....blah, blah, blah

Mandy Grunwald is my best friend. She's married to Matt Cooper...blah, blah, blah

I suppose Hillary will jump to the mike and say SHE will protect our children....but it will take MONEY...and she will propose some law that's already been proposed.
