I'm not doubting this Foley is a snake but how do we know the IM's are his? Has he admitted it or have they been traced to his computer or something? Sorry if this has already been answered but everytime I see that the left/dem machine is knee deep in something, I can't help but think of the national guard memos.

I would have asked Barney Frank to conduct the investigation instead of Gonzalez.

Barney Frank did so much worse...he actually did things! But there he is still --- bizarrely disgusting and liberal world that it is in the beltway.

I am glad to see this.

I haven't read through the thread, but it takes an offensive rather than defensive stance on this. Good.

Every time I hear about this Foley story, I flash back to one of my favorite movies, "An Officer and a Gentleman," (one of the few, if not only, Richard Gere movies I like) where a mean-ass drill Sgt. ---- whose name is Foley ----- is played by Louis Gossett Jr.

At the very pinnacle of the movie, Gere's best bud (played by David Keith) zooms past on a speed boat and yells out "FOLEY's A QUEER", which of course gets Gere (Zack Mayo) into big trouble.

Guess you had to see it.

YES!

I have NO sympathy for Foley - perverted #$%&?! - but it's interesting how the MSM is spinning this as "Republicans may have known about this a few months ago."

How about "Democrats MAY HAVE KNOWN about Barney Franks, Gary Stubbs, Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, etc. YEARS, IF NOT DECADES ago"? No re-election, no gala birthday dinners. He's gone.

Foley was out withing hours, if not minutes, after the story broke.

Maybe the Republicans didn't handle this perfectly, but like a lot of things they are far better than the Democrats.

Think Denny will still stand on principle and prohibit a search of Foley's office? Look for a weasel out by him stating that Foley is no longer a Representative, ignoring the fact that the constituents purportedly being protected still remain constituents. No, there is absolutely no way ANY Representative would stand in the way of the FBI strip-searching Foley's office. Not with their election this close.

{I support the search as well as the search of the office of William Jefferson, Democrat, Louisiana.)

Hastert sates: "In addition, since the communications appear to have existed for three years, there should be an investigation into the extent there are persons who knew or had possession of these messages but did not report them to the appropriate authorities. It is important to know who may have had the communications and why they were not given to prosecutors before now."

To hold onto this information for political purposes is pretty ugly as well. It is obvious they were not concerned with the child's welfare either. Alot of people need to take responsibility on this.

I have been one of Hastert's staunchest supporters on this board, but his overlooking "suggestive" emails until a couple of months before a tough election is just the latest fiasco from him. He has allowed the Dims to make hay on an issue that may sink pubbies nationwide, and that just smacks of incompetence. After the election, even if the pubbies win, he should step down as Speaker.

It is a case of too little, too late. Maybe one of our strongest campaign slogans this fall should be: Vote Republican, at least we get rid of our criminals. (/bitter sarcasm) Of course, that won't work, because nobody remembers Jefferson, Toricelli, or the gay Democrat governor who was up to his neck in scandal.

I am listening to talk radio from a Dallas station and no one seems to know the difference between the emails and the text messaging or instant messaging. The emails did not contain the sexually suggestive messages, those were instant messages is my understanding . It is also my understanding that no one knew about those until recently..unless some dems did and held off on the expose until election time..Foley checking into a rehab center is laughable..who does he think he is ..a Kennedy or a dem?

Glad Foley is gone..I just wish it had been sooner. Take care of your kids..you never know who is a predator.

This article indicates that Foley's orientation was not a secret....

it's an excerpt

http://www.gopusa.com/commentary/ckincaid/2006/ck_10021.shtml

The failure to use the word "homosexual" in describing Foley's dirty talk is likely due to fear over being labeled "homophobic" or biased by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), which exists to make sure that only positive portrayals of homosexuality are permitted in the media. Plus, the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association previously warned the media, in connection with sexual abuse by Catholic Priests, to avoid linking homosexuality to pedophilia.

The questionable line we already see emerging in the media is that Foley is guilty of inappropriate behavior toward young people but that it has nothing to do with his "sexual orientation."

In fact, the entire scandal might have been avoided if Foley's homosexuality had been exposed and confronted, rather than protected, over the last several years. Top Republicans and the media were part of this cover-up.

Peter LaBarbera, who began his writing career at Accuracy in Media, raised questions about Foley's secret life back in 2003, after alternative newspapers and columnists began running stories about Foley's homosexuality, even reporting that he had a "boyfriend." LaBarbera gave credit to Bob Norman of the Broward-Palm Beach New Times newspaper for exposing Foley. However, LaBarbera found that most non-homosexual newspapers did not pursue the matter and that homosexual Republican groups were protecting him. For example, LaBarbera quoted Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, a homosexual activist group, as saying, "I could care less about [Foley's] sexual orientation." Guerriero insisted that the congressman had no obligation to discuss it.

At the time, as Foley was said to be considering running for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate, LaBarbera noted that "Many homosexual activists assert matter-of-factly that Rep. Foley is 'gay' and resent that he is not running for Senate as an open homosexual. Many social conservatives, on the other hand, argue that Florida's voters have a right to know what lies behind his pro-homosexual voting record in Congress."
