Stephanopoulos to Murtha: "Democrats are worried about your leadership"...

Stephanopoulos to Murtha:
"Democrats are worried about your leadership"

Congressman John Murtha was questioned this morning by Sunday morning talk show host George Stephanopoulos regarding his announcement Friday that he is again campaigning for House Majority Leader. Stephanopoulos said Democrats are worried about his leadership. The reason? Murtha's questionable ethics.

Stephanopoulos cited ABSCAM and tens of millions of Defense contract dollars going to the KSI lobbying firm of Murtha's brother as reason for Democrats' concern.

Murtha responded that he was 'cleared of all charges" in the ABSCAM case; and his brother's millions were acquired ethically.

"Everything we do in our office is by the book," said Murtha.

Does Murtha play by the book? Hardly…

House ethics rules require members to report any bribe offers immediately to the FBI. Murtha was offered a $50,000 bribe in 1980. Did he report it? No. He lied:

"I did not consider that any money was offered." – Murtha, 1980 [LINK]

Last Friday, Sept. 29th,  Murtha’s 26-year lie abruptly ended – the same day the full 54-minute FBI sting surveillance tape hit the internet. Appearing on CNN’s Wolf Blitzer’s show that night, Murtha made this admission of guilt:

"They offered me $50,000." [LINK to transcript]

Twenty-six years ago, that admission would have brought charges against him. Twenty-six years ago, that truth would have ended his political career.

Murtha’s 26-years-late admission of bribery knowledge changes everything. It shows he does not play ‘by the book’ – not in 1980 and not now. It redefines him as a guilty, crooked politician who escaped prosecution -- not because of his innocence but because: 1.) he lied; 2.) he cowardly cut a deal to squeal. (can you say, "cut and run"?)

In 1980, Murtha convinced then House Ethics Committee member Don Bailey he had voluntarily informed the FBI about the bribe. The duped Bailey, in turn, convinced (barely) the Committee not to file charges against Murtha. Murtha then escaped federal prosecution by cutting a deal to give sworn testimony against another congressman in exchange for charges being dropped by the grand jury.-- [LINK] [LINK]

For 26 years Murtha has not told the full truth about being ‘cleared of all charges.’ He was not innocent of wrong doing in the ABSCAM FBI sting. He escaped charges because he squealed and lied. That's not playing by the book -- that's just plain crooked.

Congressman John Murtha is a crook. Just how big of a crook is Congressman Murtha? Independent, liberal watchdog organization CREW lists John Murtha as one of the  most corrupt members of Congress. [LINK] And the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Murtha’s campaign used a government Veterans Affairs Office in the Westmoreland County Courthouse to promote and arrange the bussing of veterans to his political rally, held Sept. 30th in Johnstown, PA.  [LINK ]

 Crooked. That’s Congressman John Murtha.

Given these facts, what remains to be seen is whether the voters of PA district 12 will choose to return their crooked congressman to Washington, D.C. this Nov. 7th.

You are right to despise him and to wish him a loss. Unfortunately, he will probably win again and continue his path of corruption.

If I was his opponent, I would have bullhorns driving all over the district playing his foul mouthed utterances during the abscam tapes. Maybe his constituents would tire of his profanity and crudeness.

BOTH political parties are LOADED with corrupt, inept, lying sonsuvbitches....

The only difference -- being that Republicans either have the good grace to resign and if not the party pushes them out...once they are revealed or discovered.

Democrats circle the wagons and defend their assholes to the end -- realizing if they don't, perhaps THEY will be next..

We get asked that a lot. The annoying answer is, there are no polls on this race... at least, none that have been made public.

For a couple of possible reasons: they are expensive ($25,000) and Murtha's opponent, Diana Irey, needs to use campaign money for wiser things. Also, if Murtha has polled and found the results bad for him he is not going to release that information publicly.

You know it, I know it... but the voters in Murtha's own district do not necessarily know it. The vast majority of them are not Internet users and rely upon the MSM for their information. So, it's no wonder they don't know...

That's why we are workin' hard and losing a lot of sleep to get the word out in his district, which is why we keep pestering folks to contribute $. We've got a long road yet to go getting this information into his district. We want to run informational TV ads, but thus far lack the bucks to do so.

Now THERE'S an idea!!

Boot Murtha's rally just finished up about an hour ago out in Johnstown, PA. Reports in to me (I'm the webmaster for BootMurtha.com) are that we had more turn out for ours than Murtha had turn out for his the day before.

Also reported to me: the people who live there in Johnstown think Murtha will NOT win re-election. It's interesting that there are no polls published to show how people in Murtha's district really think/feel. Well, now we have heard first-hand from the people in Murtha's hometown. And the consensus is: Murtha's not going to be re-elected.

Help me out here - can I, as a private citizen, pay for a bulk mailing to his constituents of the details of the case Murtha lied about? These kind of things can backfire so it has to be done right, but I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is if someone can educate me in these matters.

Yes, you can. Here's FEC law on it: if the cost of any effort on behalf of or against a candidate exceeds $10,000 it must be reported to the FEC as an Independent Expenditure.

What's involved cost-wise to do such a mailing? First you need to get the addresses to mail to. That means purchasing mailing lists (probably $5,000 or more to get PA District 12). Then there's the cost to print and mail your message.

So, those are the basics.

It would be hard to play his voice in neighborhoods because of his profanity, but I am a hardened vet with many years of active duty service and I despise profanity. His constant use of GD was extremely offensive to me, and I believe if it could be played without exposing children to it, the point would be made.

His crudeness is the equivalent to the street thugs use of MF.

The following exchange occured about twelve minutes into the tape and continued without stop for the almost hour of the tape.

"MURTHA: You can buy insurance if you want to. But I'm gonna tell you somethin'. To me, insurance is investing in my goddamn district... and doing this goddamn, you know this, this is, to me, a big goddamn insurance policy is doing business in my district. And I'm gonnna tell you something, there's an article in the [Philadelphia] Bulletin the other day, you might have seen it Howard, "Jack Murtha Deals in the District," and that's right. You know, and I want, I want this guy to spend money in my district. I want this connection in my goddamn district. I'm delighted to do business with him, and do every goddamn thing I can within bounds, you know, so I don't get myself in jail, in order to get him into the country and whatever needs to be done. But I've I gotta know uh...the details, and when I say the details I've got to know when he wants to come, I've got to know how many in the family, I've got to know, you know, a lot of goddamn things. Then I can check into it, I can tell you exactly if you're throwing your goddamn self away. Or you're...uh --

I just returned from the "Boot Murtha" rally in Johnstown {where everything is named after john murtha}. The rally had between 1200-1500 patriots many great guest speakers and zero politicians. Irey was prevented by law from attending {thank you john mcpain} but it was a roaring event. The speakers included Gregg Garvey {his son Justin was killed in Iraq}, Earl Johnson {survivor of the North Tower}, John Wroblewski {his Marine son also killed in Iraq}, Terry Pennington {son is one of the Marines in brig in Pendleton} and David Beamer {son Todd ... Let's Roll}. Local talk show hosts Quinn and Rose and several others.

There were more tears than at an Italian wedding {or funeral}. Me too.

I stopped at a local pub to get a sense of the local folks and they are all behind murtha. While many expressed disagreement with his statements, they know he is a real porker. Sad but true. He will be tough to beat.

From my county's registrar you can get a database of voters and their addresses for a particular congressional district for (last time I checked) under $1K. I wouldn't bother with a general mailing list; you don't care about anyone who isn't a registered voter anyway.

You'll still need someone with computer skills to turn it into mailing labels, or perhaps there are services out there (I always used to do it myself).

I should add that my registrar will put the list on CD in a form readable by Microsoft Access. I imagine other registrars will do the same. Also, contact your local Republican Party organization. They must have that data already, and if you tell them you want to do your own mailing against Murtha, they might give you a free copy.

I think little George is running interference for Steny Hoyer. Murtha, if he survives the general election, is slated to take on Steny for the House "Majority" leadership post. Steny Hoyer is the minority whip and was allied with loco poco dicko Gephardt in the House. Little georgie worked for Gephardt before he became an apologist for clinton.

Murtha's "behavior" the past year of so -- was intentional to inoculate him from his greatest fear: Investigation.

Murtha's borderline traitorous, disruptive and insulting behavior was to make it nearly impossible for this administration to drag his sorry ass into the light of a rectal exam -- because he and the Democrats will cry "POLITICAL RETRIBUTION" for his anti Administration positions....

We've got Nancy "No Lids" Pelosi, demanding Republicans be put under oath to testify to "What they knew, and when they knew it" over the Homosexual Republican chasing Page Boys...

The Republicans should agree - the instant the Democrats agree to the same conditions -- regarding a few of their own assholes, thieves, rapists, perverts and bribe shoppers..

Nope. Probably because it would be abused by every spammer in the country to snail-mail their scams. And that would put the provider of the addresses at complete risk of being sued into oblivion.

List providers charge $$ for addresses because it takes tons of time and effort to compile them and further sort them demographically, geographically, and set them up into useable data, etc.

On another note, they said their conversations with Johnstown residents showed them Murtha could be beat... easily this November. And the consensus there was against Murtha.

My contact with the locals was only in "Dan's Pub" so I'm not claiming that it was a cross section of all of johnstown. There were many murtha signs around the town. However, I sat next to a couple that live in johnstown and she told me that every time they put up an Irey sign, someone rips it down.

There is no doubt that murtha has been using the earmark system for his benefit over the years and many locals see this as good for the area. It is a very depressed {and depressing} area. They are waiting for the return of big steel.
