Scarborough: D.C.'s dark underbelly exposed
MSNBC ^ | 10/2/06 | Joe Scarborough

Posted on 10/02/2006 12:58:58 PM PDT by teddyballgame

I know Mark Foley. Mark Foley is a friend of mine. But in all my years working with him in Congress and on TV, I could have never foreseen this kind of scandal swirling around the friendly politician.

Mark and I entered Congress together in 1994 and spent the next four terms working together on legislation and political campaigns. Rumors about Mark's homosexuality followed him from his first day in the House and I even discussed the issue with him before he launched his Senate campaign in 2003.

The question I have is why did Joe and others allow this to be kept secret when they knew it could blow up in everyone's face? The voters have a right to know who they are voting for.

Given the odd timing of Scarboro's retirement from Congress.

I don't want to hear from him, unless he has something to confess.

"I'm not sure what Joe means when he refers to DC's "dark side"."

Good point - by implication it must mean that DC has some other side as well, which is clearly not the case. There are a tiny few and dwindling number of honest people on both sides of the aisle, but certainly not enough to qualify as a "side."

Yes he is. I always thought there was something weird about why Scarborough, Kaisich(sp), and Paxton all left office around the same time. They were thought to be the Republican Party's future. I would guess that there is a lot that goes on in the halls of government that we really don't want to know about. Sadly I think it goes on with both parties.

As for Scarborough, I can't even look at him anymore. He turns my stomach.

Though I had never broached the subject out of deference to him, I just wanted Mark to know it would come up and that he had better have a response ready. I also told him not to be surprised if the White House stepped in with a candidate like Mel Martinez to drive him from the race. Mark guaranteed me his friends in the Bush administration would never do such a thing. I don't know if they did. Perhaps you can ask Sen. Mel Martinez if I was correct next time you see him.

How do you explain the Republican party's attempts to get Foley into the '06 race in their attempts to knock Harris out? Don't be absolutely absurd Scarborough. Yes, the party bought Mel in on purpose but they did so to kick harris out of the running in '04. She agreed to wait till '06, then they tried again to remove her. That time Foley was one of many they were willing to use. He didn't step up to run.

Reading the first set of e-mails made me uneasy. My friends and I who knew Mark got on the phone and asked why he would ask a high school kid for a picture. Friday afternoon I saw the instant messages he sent to another student and realized that Mark was in big trouble.

Wow, you must be brilliant Joe.

I think Joe would be well served to keep quiet himself, not just his Dem friends. He didn't exactly exit Washington under the best circumstances.

"Does anyone know of any politician who has gay rumors swirling about him and they can say beyond a reasonable doubt that those rumors are false? "

No, but given a chance, could I start one about that idiot Wexler?

Mr. Foley isn't in trouble because of his sexual orientation inasmuch as the age range he appears to target.

I think Scarborough sold his soul to MSNBC when he went to work for them and does their bidding.

Joe Scarborough has become a pandering lunatic. He licks his finger - sticks it in the air - and then measures the wind for his position.

He is completely gutless.

Remember when he got his producer drunk to see if he would act like Mel Gibson? Well now - how about these ideas:

- Beat a woman to see if she is likely to kill her assailant.

- Give someone heroin to see if they want to jump off a bridge.

Get me drift.

THis is guy is an idiot - he is a classic MSNBC'er.

Loser

shut up Scarborough. The adults are in charge, and they're taking care of things. Quit enabling the RATS who are just trying to fan the flames.

so any single unmarried man is going to be smeared by a rumor of being a homosexual?

Homo-activists have trolled to out people as homosexuality regardless of facts.

i got a solution to the damn problem..JUST END THE DAMN "
"PAGE" PROGRAM!!...GEEZ...JUST HIRE ADULTS...ANNOYING!!!!!!!!

Totally agree - I made the same comment on another thread - the word "page" dates back to another century - no reason for them in this day and age. D.C. is like pre-revolutionary France - and look how badly THAT ended.

I miss the days when congressmen had sex with their wives on the capitol steps in the middle of the night.

(some OLD time scandal when an ex-wife of a congressman possed for playboy in the pre-internet days)

Scarborough says he couldn't have foreseen this? What does it say about me if I could foresee years ago that Foley was a pervert? Or am I just a homophobe who stereotyped him because he talked like a girl?

Having a close friend of my daughter.....serving as an intern in D.C. for a senator, I can assure you that the truth of what goes on there is never going to be revealed unless it's a case like Condit's where the girl gets murdered.
