He should resign. The Republicans should also be working on their list of Democrats who were also aware of this, and getting those names out there, as well - so that they can resign too.

Hmm, when is Tony Blankly, the writer of this editorial, going to resign from the Washington Times?

The human resources director of The Washington Times has been arrested on charges of soliciting a teenager for sex on the Internet.

From what I've heard so far.

Hastert had emails that were not suggestive. Democrat operatives had the instant messages that were disgusting. They've had them for a couple YEARS and sat on them.

Democrats should fall on their swords. All of them.

You're right! Hastert thought he had this "handled" months ago. WRONG! This is the kind of leadership the country needs??? He//, the Republican leadership in Congress can't deal with problems in its own ranks, can't deal with the opposition party and we're supposed to expect them to deal with the islamic attempt at world domination???
Give me a break!

I agree.

Two basic questions: Who knew (R or D) and when did they know (R or D)?

If it can be shown that some one knew 1 minute before the story broke and did not do any thing to protect the children, they too should be dismissed.

There is a sickness in Congress that must be addressed.

I might go along with you if I was assured any guilty DemocRAT would resign.

. . . The Republicans should also be working on their list of Democrats who were also aware of this, and getting those names out there, as well - so that they can resign too.

That is the 'horse' here; and it needs to come before the cart of any Repubs resigning..

Had Hastert done more. . .on the 'less' info that he had at the time; (no IM's. etc ..) then the Repubs would have been attacked for discriminating against Gays. . .there is a no win here for Repubs; save to get to the truth of this scandal. The first truth has been dealt with; perp Foley is gone. WHO/HOW/WHY this has erupted now. ..rather than 'then'; needs investigating.

The Dems are political terrorists; and theyk are feverishly engaged. Hastert is tossed; they will NOT be appeased. . .

Repubs need to change the dialogue; the focus here; and NOW.

No, he should not resign.

He should not run for Leadership again, however.

There is some poetic justice in this, since Hastert now sees the 'gratitude' of the Democrats in his defending Jefferson.

Get off it!!!!

He wasn't aware of the IM's!!

Further, the more inocuous e-mails he was aware of caused him to tell Foley to stop.
Foley lied to him and said he'd stopped.

You'd have the conservatives resign for every measure they're short of perfection while the lib's live up to their lack of values!!!

I agree with the second part of your statement, but no way should Hastert resign.

You're kidding right? The democrats have too many lists of their own scoundrels that should have been long gone. I can't understand why or how they're keeping their seats.

The info on the leader of the pack Bossey who wants him out and was fired from the House of Reps:

If what Bossie had in mind was the Webster Hubbell tapes that he and Burton were preparing for release, then these have turned out to be a disaster for Burton and Bossie. Just when Newt Gingrich was trying to increase the scandal pressure on Clinton, Burton and Bossie embarrassed themselves and the GOP by making public selective portions of the Hubbell tapes. Remarks that indicated Hillary Clinton did no wrong were left out of the initial release. In several instances the transcripts did not match the actual recordings, and these errors seemed almost willful, as if they were intended to unfairly implicate Hubbell and the Clintons. Rather than confirming Clinton wrongdoing, they confirmed long-standing Democratic charges that the Burton investigation was hopelessly biased -- and it was Bossie himself who had insisted on their release, over the objections of more prudent committee staffers. After several days of firestorm, Bossie was removed -- reportedly because Republican House leaders (some of whom already questioned Burton's ability to handle the Democrats on his committee) forced Burton to bounce him.

If he's telling the truth about not having the sexually explicit IM's, then there's absolutely no reason for him to resign. He was blind sided.

Gosh!

You mean he should resign the same as the Democratic Majority leader did when Ted Kennedy abandoned Mary Jo?

Oh, that's right it never happened.

Well he probably won't be following in Tip O'Neill's footsteps and resigning like Tip did when Gary Studds HAD SEX with an underage page?

Oh, that never happened either did it?

And Studds was only censured and Kennedy did nothing.

And it was Republicans who talked Nixon into resigning. And it was Democrats that had a "Pep Rally" at the White House for Clinton.
