From ESPN's summary wrap-up:
Minnesota rookie Boof Bonser will start against Oakland's Esteban Loaiza in Game 2 Wednesday afternoon.
Guess Twinks were betting on winning Game 1.
Closer Huston Street gave one back to the Twins after a leadoff triple by Michael Cuddyer was lost in the ceiling by right fielder Milton Bradley.
D@mn Dome! Outside of Tampa Bay, that has to be the worst place to play baseball.
Thomas went 3-for-4 with two homers
One-man wrecking crew. Thank you Billy Beane!
The favorite to win his second AL Cy Young, Santana hadn't lost at the noisy Metrodome since Aug. 1, 2005, going 16-0 in 23 starts over that span.
Very good omen, beating this guy.
Minnesota's last loss in a postseason Game 1 was in the 1970 AL championship series to Baltimore. There were eight series between that one and this one.
36 years ago. If memory serves me correctly, the Twins lost that series.
I guess this means they are still playing baseball.....
LOL. In my book, the Mets are favored.
This is as good a thread as any to begin a debate whether scores/spoilers should be posted as thread titles, or simply embedded in the thread.
Great lineup, shakey pitching situation. Will be interesting.
The way the Raiders are playing, most Oakland fans hope the A's play into January.
Go Cardinals!
LOL!
Nice use of Photoshop, dead!
I like it!
Maybe the Tigers lost the last 5 games so they would not have to play the A's in the first Series.
Planning on bringing Kirk Gibson out of retirement? :)
I am hoping for a subway series.
maybe the twins should pay their players some money, they have been working for free since the break..
Yes, unfortunately they are.
I have two favorite dates during the baseball season:
1. The All-Star Game - because the season is 1/2 over.
2. The last inning of the final World Series game - because the season is all over.
LOL
GO YANKS! KICK DETROIT ASS!
Might as well get Kirk Douglas.
What the Dodgers really miss is Orel Hershiser.
But, there's Blue Magic in the air...

This will be the year of the "Fruits & Nuts" World Series between the Dodgers and A's.
1. Your 40th birthday - because the season is 1/2 over.
2. ...
You might want to chill a bit. It hasn't been a good season for those prone to count the Twins out. Seems there was a series a few years ago that the A's had all but wrapped up after three games.
Just got shakier: Orlando Hernandez came up with a calf problem while running in the outfield today. Results pending . . .
"The way the Raiders are playing, most Oakland fans hope the A's play into January."
Yeah well, it could be worse, you could have the Browns AND the Indians. Winning isn't allowed in Cleveland.
A's win game one. I'm celebrating today's win.
Way too excruciatingly long!
All the more so when you live in a city chockful of bandwagoning fans like the Twin Cities.
The A's had two 2-game leads in the ALDS in separate playoffs, only to lose three in a row each time. I'm well aware of the "Chokeland" reputation. Fortunately, there's no Jeremy Giambi to suffer brain freeze rounding third on what should have been a slide into home.
Ouch. The ageless playoff monster was to be their starter for Game 1, yes? Bad news for the steM.
Anything but a Subway Series for me. Personally I want to see the Tigers and the Padres.
Home of the Minnesota Twinkies!!!!! and way to many liberals
Born and raised in MN I will always be a Vikes fan but now I love my Colts here in IN.
subway
EAT STEAK!!!
It used to be 154 games, now it is 162 games. Part of the game is the difficulty in playing for so long.
Football lasts a long time too. 17 weeks for the regular season, then playoffs (I'm not counting preseason).
You are partly right about the empty seats. Also, they play during the weekdays and afternoons (not just Sunday and Monday nights, and I guess now Thursday and Saturday). However, 81 home games keeps them semi-affordable and provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy the game.
Plus I enjoy just going home from work and popping on the TV to find a game just starting.
Thank you for the information!!!!
too dang funny!!!!!!!!!!
A rematch of '84.
No prob. Even if you're not a baseball fan you should watch a couple of the playoff games. Every pitch matters. The thing about baseball is that it can become almost unbearably tense. It helps if you pick a team to root for from the beginning, because that will heighten the anguish/elation.
Me, my team is the 'Stros (they amazingly fell just short), but since they are out of it I'd like to see Detroit do well (it be good for the game--they were one of the worst teams in the league a few years ago).
Albert Pouhuls just popped a 2 run dinger in the top of the 4th at San Diego to give the Cards a 2-0 lead in the first game of their series.
Without Tommy Lasagne and, more importantly, Orel Hershiser? I don't think so!
By one lousy run, and you have four games to go (unless we beat you three straight).
Tommy will be there for this Championship, too.
Without Liriano it will be tough. But in Domeball, anything is possible.
Up until it was announced that they have no Pedro for the post season....
Just win baby!!!!
