Pending Hastert's news conference, Fox is reporting that internal Repub polls indicate that the Foley matter is destroying any chance of the Repubs keeping the House, "and maybe the Senate as well." Breaking as we await the Hastert news congerence. Fox reports that the entire country is riveted by this matter and it has "blown away" all other issues for the upcoming mid-terms.
I have a hard time believing this manufactured scandal is having this effect, but Fox seems to be shooting straight on this. Perhaps the dealy in the Hastert new conference is due to furious fighting over whether he needs to resign as speaker today. With no other candidate standing-by, Fox notes that Congress would be required to re-convene to elect a new speaker, keeping this mess in the lime light right up to election day. This ambush was apparently very well planned.
Fox is obviuosly trying to kiss up to the Clinton Kool Aid drinkers with all of this worthless talk. Worthless it is to the max.
This is a crock from Fox.
Especially after Rove launches his October Surprise. ;-)
Saw that too. I have a bad feeling something is going to happen soon. Dammit, this whole thing reeks of a game of chess and this might be "check-mate" Hope Im wrong.
More... former FBI Head Louis Freed may be appointed to investigate Foleygate.
I noticed that the stories by Fox news and the other MSM folks always state a "Pollster", with no name given. Could this pollster have an axe to grind against Hastert?
All we need is for President Bush to get out on the stump and pump up the base.
How on earth could that be? Oh yeah, Tom Delay, Bob Ney, Mark Foley, Duke Cunningham......
Now I remember.
Is this by one of the ex cnn'ers like Major Garrett? This is a Welstone minute and will backfire.
I just can't believe this would influence one vote. I just can't imagine a single person saying, gee I support the Republican party, it's ideas and platform but because of one perv in congress I'm goin to switch my vote to the anti-american, pro-gay lobby, same sex marriage advocate, abortion on demand, cut and tun and defame the US Military demo/socialist party. Uhh, I don't think so.
Well, we shall see. The CW certainly has this as a nail in the coffin moment for the Republicans.
Still, the one thing that remains is the issues. Are there enough October suprises for the dems to keep the voters attention away from their positions on the issues. I have to tell you, the voters might be fixated on Foley, but more as a National Enquirer thing than something that affects their vote.
Would you like your Fox in a box?..........
Baloney
I agree. I know there are voters who vote irrationally, but why would being offended by Foley's actions lead anyone to vote for a Democrat? Are Democrats supposed to be less likely (at all levels of government) to send salty instant messages? (I'm not defending Foley's behavior with the "Democrats-do-that-too" argument; I'm just challenging the idea that the Foley scandal will have an impact on other races.)
CW?
Yesterday afternoon on NPR they announced a poll (small numbers) taken in rural high GOP areas, and failed to find one voter that was changing their vote to the RAT party. I think this will hurt somewhat, but there is still a month to go before the election. At least this story didn't come out a week before the election like the W DWI story.
FOX is a POS network run by a Democrat that caught a unique slogan "fair and balanced" but that's all it is, a slogan.
Other than the media and the new-junkies, is anyone even paying any attention to this? Does anyone even care?
Is this before or after the news taht the page was actually an 18 year old, legal homosexual?
Is it time to ask Gay Republicans to leave the party?
Paste: " This is a Welstone minute and will backfire."
I wish I could see how. The Welstone moment showcased bad behaviour on the dems part. Try as the MSM did, they could not cover for the dems. In this case, all I see here (that is in plain view) is bad Repub behaviour. It is easy for the MSM to coverup the dems bad behaviour (sitting on these IM's) in this instance.
Conventional wisdom.
Louis FReeh? lolol
What, Janet Reno wasn't open to the job?
This is too funny..
Not!
I think FOX it trying to hype a news story.
So, are we to really believe that:
1 - WHEN A REPUBLICAN ACTS LIKE A D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T
2 - the disappointed Republicans will then go to the the voting box and vote DEMOCRAT?
Doesn't make sense to me.
Watch for Bush to use this opportunity to quietly veto the 700 miles of border fence. I hope I'm wrong but then again...
Convetional Wisdom
If Republicans let this phoney Democrat and media created non sex sex scandal effect their vote in a negative way then they deserve to lose a hundred seats
I just don't get it.
OK, Foley sent these e-mails and IMs. Maybe there's more to the story, but he resigned in disgrace.
Would the Democrats really rather have us focus on IMs where a homosexual congressman requests "measurements" shall we say, from a male congressional page, rather than on their plans for Iraq, whatever those plans may be?
this can backfire on the Dems if not careful. Because Foley is a homosexual, there is a gay bashing element here that they have to be careful about, since they are the party of tolerance of gays and other things.
I have wonder if we need to just turn off Fox for a few weeks. They are becoming a more and more liberal.
They're not going to report the fact that the page was 18 because it ruins the pre-concocted conclusion or at least diminishes it.
The page was 18 at the time of the non-scandal. Why isn't that making news, other than on blogs and websites?
Scorbrough is saying the evangelicals are going to stay home. The Demo have definately won the House period. Oh I don't know I am a born again and I will certainly vote. Many see it as a duty. I think there will not be a decrease in voters because of this. I do think some of the elite Rockerfeller so called Repubs will vote for Dems as all they care about is MONEY and PALM greasing and the deals they want are probably already made.
"Conventional Wisdom"
(slap in the head) of course, thanks.
Fox News is pissing me off. They need to report facts, not their own personal opinions. Why don't the report that ABC News is backtracking now, and investigate the source of the Instant Messages, and who was the lawbreaker that leaked them to the public?
The whole country isn't talking about it. Only politicos and perverts.
______________
And freepers. Seems like every other thread is related to this story.
I'm a very practical person. I call it the way I see 'em. I don't believe this. It is waaay too early for this to have any material impact on polling. So far this is insider baseball stuff and really hasn't resonated in the general public in true scandal fashion. I personally think this is disinformation.
If this story is still hot next Friday then I'd say maybe, but it is just too early in this news cycle to be impacting this hard in the polls. Something is rotten in Denmark and FOX maybe smoking some bad stuff.
I don't believe it either. Voters are simply not that stupid and naive.
For example, Bush has steadily and patiently warned North Korea's mincing little bouffant dictator not to test nuclear weapons. Kim Jong Il may just be stupid enough to ignore the warnings. If he does, he may trigger a response from the US that will overwhelm the manufactured Foley non-story and all other inane non-stories in news cycles for the next six months.
Kim Jong Il may unwittingly bring America's attention back to the most important issue of our time: national security.
Because all their daytime anchors are Democrats, including Shepherd Smith
You border bots see a big immigration conspiracy everywhere. He already signed the bill. Pay attention once and a while and not just to the mindless rhetoric of your fellow border bots.
Again, all Foley has to do is get up there, speak like a MAN and say, I am being accused of being an accomplice to child molestation. HOW DARE THE DEMOCRATS DO THIS. If I had know about the vile IM's, not only would I have had Foley resign immediately, but I would have insisted on prosecution. This is an attack on my character, and I WILL NOT HAVE IT.
We don't have the poll. We don't have the methology, And we know the polster that produced this poll is the one that told Republicans to cancel appearances with hastert days ago. This polster has an agenda and I want the breakdown of the poll RIGHT NOW IF it exists.
50 seats? Yeah right.
I think Fox is overblowing this. But we should get the word out that, while Repubs do have their perverts and other evil people, we force them out of office, while the Dems hold theirs up as paragons of virtue and do their best to get them re-elected.
The dateline is November 5, 2006.
