DSCC Independent Expenditures Filed in Paper Form Not Electronically (What are they hiding ?)

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee 48-hour notices of independent expenditures are filed in paper form not electronically with the Federal Election Commission. As a result paper filings from the DSCC have been listed as arriving at the FEC and images are available, but no details or amounts have been made available in electronic form. All other national party committees (including the NRSC) file electronically with the FEC and their independent expenditures are readily available in electronic form. This permits others to quickly cross reference candidates and compile totals by State/District.

The FEC will eventually key in the DSCC September independent expenditure data sometime after the DSCC files its regular monthly report on October 20th. From past experience, the data will be electronically available after the election. Included in the data will be the over $5 million in independent expenditures made in September that PoliticalMoneyLine has spotted already. For example, the $999,137.90 media buy on 9/1 for the Sherrod Brown v. Mike DeWine race in Ohio; the $900,000 media buy on 9/26 for the Cardin v. Steele race in Maryland; and the $618,616 media buy on 9/26 for the Sherrod Brown v. Mike DeWine race. DSCC independent expenditures in September totaled over $410,000 in Montana, over $265,000 in Tennessee, over $1.9 million in Ohio, over $1.3 million in Missouri, over $190,000 in Rhode Island, and over $900,000 in Maryland.

If the DSCC continues to submit paper filings of independent expenditures, any new DSCC independent expenditures in October and early November will also not be available electronically until after Election Day.
