Ford leads Coker by 5 in Tennessee (USA Today/Gallup Poll)
The Gallop Poll ^ | October 06, 2006

Tennessee

Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is retiring, leaving his seat open. Earlier this year, it looked like a long shot for Democrats to take this seat, as several polls had Republican candidate Bob Corker enjoying double-digit leads in a state that typically leans Republican. However, recent polls show Congressman and Democratic candidate Harold Ford Jr., making a race of it. The USA Today/Gallup poll gives a slight advantage to Ford, 50% to 45%, although that lead is still within the poll's margin of sampling error.

I find this hard to believe. I think they are laying the ground work to claim the election was stolen from Chavez err Ford.

I cannot see Ford beating Corker. I live in Georgia and the GOP is doing very well here. Is Corker a poor campaigner?

Was this poll only taken in Memphis?

This is rather bad news if true.

Yes, Corker is running a poor campaign, coupled with the fact that Junior is running an excellent campaign. He's slick, he answers charges immediately and forcefully, and he's very good at hiding who he really is.

no, he is really good at it. I just think he did not start attacking Jr. quickly enough after the primary. He has shaken up his staff and is putting out more commercials attacking Jr. on his liberal voting record.I just hope it is enough!!!

You should not change the title.

The polling was over a weekend. They said they interviewed 1000 residents and culled that for likely voters. They said the margin was +/- 5%. That means that they got well less than half of their sample being likely voters (they don't say how many voters were likely). And that's just the Maryland numbers. Others may be much worse. I am suspecting sloppy polling here, the Virginia numbers don't add up to other polls.

This is a further effort by the MSM to depress the conservative vote next month. The libs can't win unless us conservatives stay home on November 7.

The Gallup polls show a huge RAT surge. It could either be (1)that the polls way oversampled RATS over or (2) Nov is going to be a depressing night everywhere.

For the moment, I'm inclined to believe (1). Other polls show a deadlock race for Corker vs Ford. Plus another Gallup poll has Allen leading only by 3.

What kind of senator will Ford be...is he an independent democrat in the mold of Sam Nunn, Zell Miller, Scoop Jackson? Will he be somewhat of a Lieberman on defense, but a Kennedy on social issues?
I don't see a real liberal here as he is in Tennessee and will have to govern much like old Mary Landrieu, Blanche Lincoln, Mark Pryor, Bill Nelson--Red Southern states with real fedish for mom, grits and red-eye gravy, collards, apple pie, fried chicken and barbequed ribs, NASCAR, SEC/ACC football and basketball, hunting and fishing, and beer or bourbon.
No stomach here for quiche', eggs benedict, capons, tarts, croquet or lawn tennis, scotch or rye, New York Times best seller lists, solar power, The View, faux fox hunt rides wht the fox goes free, debating societies, Rolex watches, expensive fountain pens, bidets, Walmartless towns, or extremely soft toilet paper.

I've spoken with some friends in TN that I would have thought would vote GOP, but they are undecided and leaning toward Ford. Their thought process is that Coker comes off as an idiot in his own ads and while Ford comes from a corrupt political family at least he knows how to play the game and will be able to get lots of things favorable to the citizens of TN pushed through the Senate.

Don't believe that crap that because the RAT is from a conservative state that he will vote like a conservative. Georgia had Senator Cleland, who was elected as a moderate, he turned out to have a very liberal voting record. Check out the ACU (Conservative) and ADA (Liberal) ratings.

http://www.acuratings.org/

Ford has an ACU rating of 21. Not as bad as Ted Kennedy's 0, but BAD

Check out Landreiu, Lincoln, Pryor and Bill Nelson, all have poor ratings 44, 16, 24, and 20. Only Landreiu was close to MODERATE.

Ford gets an 80 from ADA

Tennessee is a far different state than Georgia. Tennessee has more in common with states like Arkansas and Kentucky.

I agree, Tenn elected Al Gore several times as Senator. Of course Georgia elected Jimmy as Governor (he campaigned much more as a conservative).

CORRUPT. He is both a Ford and a demonRAT. He will be a polished charlie rangle, without the gravel voice. Big smile, glad hand, talk nice, stab you in the back. Worst kind of demonRAT.

This is a farce. In 2002 all the pundits had Ron Kirk of Texas as a toss up in the Senate race. He lost to Croyn by 12%.

These polls were taken from 9/27/to 10/2, the Foley scandal broke on 9/29. this is a reactionary poll.

Ford and Webb will lose by Double Digits.

But Gore was different. His father was a longtime US sEantor also, and Gore was a Vietnam vet.

Ford has no qualities, just a inept campaign by Corker.

do not worry Corker's camapign will come thru, Ford is from a crooked family.

Although that lead is still within the polls margin sample of lead.

You bet your A** it's a sample from USA today and, I would bet that all the other MSM polls show the same, that is with the margin of error.
To me there is more error than there are margin.
