Clinton wins crackdown on school junk food

5 major food companies agree to snack guidelines that would ban Snickers

Snacks sold in schools will have less fat, sugar and salt under the latest crackdown on junk food won by former President Clinton.

Just five months after a similar agreement targeting the sale of sodas in schools, Clinton and the American Heart Association announced a deal Friday with several major food companies to make school snacks healthier — the latest assault on the nation’s childhood obesity epidemic.

“This is voluntary,” Clinton said. “They don’t have to do it. But they recognize the challenge we face, and they are helping us face the first step.”

Clinton said the obesity problem is hurting the American economy by contributing to high health care costs.

The agreement with Kraft Foods Inc., Mars Inc., Campbell Soup Co., Groupe Danone SA and PepsiCo Inc. sets guidelines for fat, sugar, sodium and calories for snack foods sold in school vending machines, stores and snack bars. Those companies make everything from M&M’s, yogurt and granola bars to Frito-Lay potato chips, Snickers bars and canned soups.

Under the guidelines, most foods won’t be permitted to derive more than 35 percent of their calories from fat and more than 10 percent from saturated fat. There will be a limit of 35 percent for sugar content by weight.

I wonder if he would have gotten Bin Laden if he "cracked down" on him half as hard.

Clinton wins crackdown on school junk food

Using the principle that some people's faces are considered eye candy, and some people's faces are not (ergo, "junk food"), I was hoping this might mean that all public schools would no longer be allowed to display pictures of 41 or his WINO.

I guess the Hillary health plan is being implemented one small piece at a time rather than all at once.

Ten bucks says some enterprising little businessman is going to make a fortune selling Cokes and candy bars out of his backpack.

Now, when are they going to start restricting people on food stamps from buying junk food?

My friend worked at a supermarket and was always frustrated at the junk food that people of food stamps bought. It is our tax dollars after all.

Agreed. Why didn't those food companies just tell Slick to go stuff it (metaphorically speaking;) and remind that lying rapist POS that this is the United States of America, and people will eat what they feel like eating, because they are FREE, and not (yet) under the thumb of his disgraceful "wife" and her socialist utopia!
