No! I am not in the least happy she was murdered. Simply because I did not consider her articles valid does not in any way mean I would want the woman dead, and it is sick of you to imply such.

Just my opinion, but I get the feeling that her own history with the former Soviet Union and then Putin could have clouded her thinking when it came to Bush and the war on terror.

Someone who has seen tyranny first hand may be more alert to what she sees as government overreach and wartime manipulation especially with all of the help given from the Jon Stewarts, Michael Moores and even Alex Jones of the world.

I think we have to take that into account. She may have been dead wrong about Bush, but unfortunately she was DEAD right about Putin.

What is really "sick" is the puny pack of so-called Americans preoccupied with never ending public relations deception campaign for Moscow's top tyrant. Now that's not only sick, but warrants serious questions concerning 'why'?

As for our US Government, many are convinced by certain social program supporters, market lobbies and Vietnam-era retirees that we should keep relations with Russia cool (instead of cold) as a foreign relations balance in Asia. Influential Indian officials continue to believe that they can trust Russia as a hedge against PLA and/or Pakistani flareups (should a conflict develop). India can get arms much cheaper from Russia, and we're not selling the latest toys to India. The answer, IMO, is to convince the Indians that we share important cultural similarities (like the preference for independence, for one, and lack of desire for "empire").

Our powers that be want to keep China, Russia and India happy. They don't want market stoppages today (and aren't very concerned about future consequences).

And as you know (on lobbies in our USA), everything is becoming a commodity, in a sense. It's all about feeling good right now. People have changed in some ways.

You also know that I have little background in pointing to market considerations. ...only what I've seen from the bottom (temp. contracts, public news and the like).

If the Dems do regretfully succeed in gaining even an ultra-slim majority in the House and Senate in the November elections, in part due to the drive bye media, Putin's Kremlin, coupled with Moscow's well armed international proxies will probe, push and test the Bush White House to the limit.

Putin's deceptive media public relations campaign may be drawing to a conclusion since Moscow's top dog seems to be removing his phony public mask as the real inner beast is being viciously demonstrated by his brutality toward a sovereign nation, plus the Stalin style execution of one of Russian leading reporters, a brave report who told her readers the score when it came to Putin, and paid with her own life.

The question now is, whose next on KGB Putin's hit list?

His primary goal is to bring down the Bush administration.

You will have to think in strategic terms rather than tactical. The intelligence services that currently control Russia(including Putin) want the U.S. and Western Civilization completely destroyed. Anything short of that is unacceptable to them. The stakes are far larger than bringing down any one administration including President Bush.

        She was beautiful, and through the years became only more beautiful. Do you do know why? At first we merely receive our countenance from God, and then the rest we make of it ourselves - in the way that we live.
       Still, they say that in maturity the soul begins to appear on face. Her soul was beautiful.
       She was feminine. She knew how to laugh and joke and cry from injustice. Any injustice - no matter with respect to whom - she took as her personal enemy, and she fought it with all her strength.
       She was amazing courageous, much more courageous than those many macho types in their armored jeeps, surrounded by bodyguards.
       They threatened her, they tried to intimidate her, and arranged shadows and searches. She was arrested in Chechnya by "our own" airborne forces, and they threatened to shoot her. They poisoned her when she flew to Beslan. She clawed her way back to life, and, though afterwards she was never really as healthy as before, her conscience was all the stronger.
       Many people, even well-wishers of Novaya Gazeta, now and then said: "Well, your Politkovskaya - she's too much already..." Not too much! She always wrote the truth. It is another matter that this truth was frequently too terrible, that many people's consciences refused to accept it. And so, as a protective reaction, they said she was "too much already." Sometimes even our editorial staff.
       For the average person, probably, the most difficult thing is to turn away from a terrible fact. But, if we were to look evil directly in the eye, it cannot remain; it will pass. Anya looked evil directly in the eye, and, perhaps, she remained the conqueror in the worst situations. Perhaps she remained alive where her lowered eyes would have meant her death.
       For us she is still alive. We will be never accept the death of our Anya. Whoever undertook this brutal murder - in the center of Moscow, in broad daylight, we ourselves will search for the killers. We have a good idea where they can be located...
       In Europe, and in America, right now the question is being discussed: what is the state of the independent media in Russia? Novaya Gazeta in recent years has had three of its leading journalists murdered.
       Igor Domnikov. His killers - because of the efforts of honest detectives and this newspaper - were brought to court.
       Yuri Shchekochihin. Even the authorities in his homeland refused to look at the results of his autopsy... but we are continuing our investigation, and his killers will be punished.
       Now they have taken our Anya Politkovskaya... They killed not just a journalist, not just a human rights advocate, or a citizen, they killed a beautiful woman and mother.
       While there is still a Novaya Gazeta, her killers will not sleep quietly.

Thanks. The laws of nature' actions [in this case, sociological nature] are beyond condolences. The guilty party [besides the triggerman stooge[s] and those in the hierarchical chain who sent and paid him/them] is the whole society and its sociological way of life, known under the aliases of the national character, civilizational nature, and so on. And such a message [the only true one, in my opinion] is not appropriate for the condolences site.

A while back I was at Barnes a & Nobel and I saw this blue book 'Putin's Russia.' I picked it up and thumbed through it and it was plain to see that Russia was going back into darkness. I was surprised that the woman who wrote the book was able to do so and still be free or still be in Russia.

It looks like I don't have to be surprised anymore.
