Kennedy decries Healey's "Swiftboating" of Patrick

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy accused Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey of engaging in "gutter politics" in her campaign against Democrat Deval Patrick, declaring Saturday, "Make no mistake about it, this is swiftboating."

The Massachusetts Democrat, appearing with his party's gubernatorial nominee in Hyannis, did not specify the reason for his criticism. But it came at the end of a week during which Healey criticized Patrick for supporting the parole of a convicted rapist, and during which she began airing a television commercial criticizing Patrick for helping a cop killer get his death sentence reduced to life imprisonment.

"I've been in this business a long time, and I've seen this movie before," said a text of Kennedy's remarks. "When you can't compete in the marketplace of ideas, when you don't have a positive vision to offer, then you become desperate and resort to the politics of fear and smear. That's a game plan straight out of the Karl Rove playbook, and, in her desperation, Kerry Healey is following it to a tee. Frankly, that kind of gutter politics is not worthy of the lieutenant governor and will be rejected by the people of Massachusetts."

The senator, who himself is up for re-election this fall, added, "Make no mistake about it, this is swiftboating," he said, referring to ads attacking the military record of Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., during the 2004 presidential campaign. The ads were run by a group called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth."

The Cliff notes

Ben Laguer was convicted of raping his 59 year old neighbor in 1983 for 8 hours. It was one of the most brutal non-fatal rapes in the history of the State. The woman recently passed away. DNA tests have confirmed LaGuer's guilt.

Patrick has been trying to get him freed for years and has written several letters on LaGuer's behalf. He even donated $5,000 to his legal defense fund.

He (Deval Patrick) lied several times when confronted. He lied about the number of letters. He lied about the level of his involvement. He lied about the donation.

He claims he tried to free the guy without ever doing any investigation simply because the guy claimed he was the victim of a racist jury.

Patrick says he'd do it all over again even knowing what he knows today (yes, they are disputing the DNA)

This guy is close to Clinton. Clinton appointed him as civil rights prosecutor or something.

If you think MA is out of control now, wait till you see what happens if this FAR LEFT Dem gets elected.

Patrick gave the violent rapist $5000... said he didn't remember. This guy will make Dukakis(free prison sex-changes) look like J. Edgar Hoover.

I'm always caught off guard when someone uses "swiftboating" to mean something bad rather than "patriotic duty".

"Swiftboating. To a conservative, it means telling the truth about an opponent.
To a liberal, it means having the audacity to tell the truth about one of their own."

Truth needs posting at least twice, thanks.

This AP "outrage" piece is a classic study in media bias.

Take George Allen and all the overwhelming amount of crap that he taken over the ridicuously over-hyped macaca nonsense in the pages of the Washington Post.

Compare that to Clinton stooge Deval Patrick, who not only tried to get a brutal convicted rapist freed, but flat-out LIED about it when confronted. Then the AP goes on to attack those who would dare confront him with his outright dishonesty with the perjorative term "swiftboating."

So what does Patrick's complete lack of intgrity and honesty get him in the news pages of the Washington Post? Answer: this world-class butt-kissing from David Broder:

kennedy should be in jail today for his actions with regards to Mary Jo. He is responsible for her death and worried more about his image. He is a drunk. And still the fools that are Massachusetts continue to support him.
Says a lot about him and the good folks of that state.

In the real world Mr. Ted has no credibility.
Has he ever had a real job?

The most conservative Senator from Massachusetts (my state) who once accused one of the most decent politicians I have been aware of (John Ashcroft) of treason said that?

By the way, if what I heard yesterday on Talk Radio is any measure, the issue of Patrick's history with convicts is killing him in the polls.

Well Ted, other than you aversion to water, what's wrong with "Swiftboating".

It's simply exposing the facts to daylight, rather than letting the myth's persist.

Democrats: Telling the truth about our ideas, actions, and agenda is fear and smear......

They really do know what gutter scum they are, don't they??

Demagogues like Teddy K. have to constantly lie about the targets of their ire, whether it is "Borking" nominees (let us remember which incorrigible scumbag gave us the new verb "borking" in the political lexicon) or attacking a candidate (Healy) who merely describes the actual facts of what her lib opponent did.

"Fear and smear" is definitely the current 'Rat slogan for mis-describing every Republican opponent's campaign, but it would far better be applied to the tactics of the 'Rats themselves.
