Protesters corner Jeb Bush in Pa.

Protesters greeted Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on his way to a campaign event for a Pennsylvania senator, and he briefly took refuge in a subway station supply closet to avoid the anti-Republican demonstrators.

The president's brother encountered protesters on their way to join a demonstration outside the exclusive Duquesne Club, where Sen. Rick Santorum (news, bio, voting record), a Republican, was holding a fundraiser Friday.

Officers used stun guns to subdue two protesters, saying they disobeyed orders to disperse, said Bob Grove, a Port Authority spokesman.

"It was a very tense situation. They were very close to the governor and shouting on top of him," Grove said.

Bush was not injured.

The protesters, made up of members of the United Steelworkers union and the anti-war group Uprise Counter Recruitment, chanted, "Jeb go home," and said Bush blew them a kiss.

Bush, accompanied by a security guard and an aide, retreated into a nearby subway station and was followed by about 50 picketers, said Bob Grove, a Port Authority spokesman.

"(Bush) was quickly getting out of the way and not wanting to engage us," said Jon Vandenburgh, a protester and a researcher for the United Steelworkers.

As a precaution, Bush was ushered into a station supply closet and stayed there until the crowd left.

This is so typical of the left. You'd think Sacco and Venzetti were still running around ready to toss a bomb.

Think it's safe to let them know that due to Foley the Values people won't show up to vote this year so they can just go home and sit this one out.

They're protesting the Governor of a state that is nearly one thousand miles away for what reason? This is a good article to summarize the state of many unions in this country. Pathetically transparent corruption.

Can you just see the headlines:

'FLORDIA GOVERNOR STOPPED BY KLINTON DEMOCRATS ON THE WAY TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF RICK SANTORUM'

that really should make PA. feel good, shouldn't it?

Usually thugs of the Democratic Party....

I agree.. and blowing a kiss ain't it. Blowing a kiss is cute and everything but does nothing but encourage the enemy.

Really disappointed in Jeb, blowing these lunatics a kiss.

I would have liked for him to pull a Yeltsin-on-a-tank and told the crowd to go to Hell.

Good for Jeb. There are entirely too many politicians coming out of the closet. In fact, there was an empty Governors closet just across the border from Pennsylvania, in New Jersey.

But now, steelworkers are a minority among the almost 600,000 active members of the United Steelworkers of America. The union has almost 180,000 members employed in the primary and fabricated metals industries, but the majority of the membership is spread across the economic landscape -- the chemicals, glass, rubber, tires, transportation, utilities and container industries, and even health care.

From here.

I wonder how many of these in-your-face demonstrators are actually registered to vote. I used to ask this question back in the 70's and often the reply would be that voting was useless because the process was so corrupted and only direct action made any impact. These freaks haven't made a lot of progress since then.

Like guards with live ammunition and no hesitation to use it in an appropriate situation, is more along the lines I was thinking. Once they take a few casualties, the cowards that make up their mobs won't be so eager to accumulate more.

The ONLY reason they behave as they do is that they know for certain that there will be no consequences for their behavior.

Just more evidence that the left are deliberately and with malace provoking a "civil war".

IMO, they are doing this because they know that their time is limited. Conservatives are growing more little conservatives while the left is either aborting their offspring, or just not having any. Children requires a huge commitment of time and money. Damned inconvienient, are children.....and one of the basic tenents of the left is that they shy away of commitments of any kind....physical or spiritual.

God is dead, or does not exist....fetuses are just cells out of control, like cancer....do what feels good....there are no absolutes...blah blah blah...

If a war with conservatives is what the left wants....count me in....I am weary of their B.S. and I absolutely refuse to live in a society where there is a shortage of everything, except misery.

I wonder if it was a supply "closet" or a supply "room".

I can imagine some nameless AP editor thinking "closet" would read much better since it makes it seem like Jeb was hiding under his bed, scared of Americans exercising their right to free speech and assembly.

And then there's that whole gay thing that MSM has been so interested in lately...

I think this mob of 50 had 100 arms. I see justification in defending yourself against an overwhelming mob with guns. Once they had their hands on Jeb, what is the bodyguard going to do? Peaceful assembly is a constitutional right. An angry mob chasing after you is not peaceful.
