Several hundred supporters of an outspoken cleric in Tehran, Ayatollah Kazemeyni Boroujerdi, gathered today in the streets around his house to protest what they described as violation of "freedom of religion."
Protesters told Radio Farda that they were trying to prevent the arrest of Boroujerdi by security forces. Boroujerdi advocates the separation of religion from politics.
One of his supporters told Radio Farda that during the past two months there have been several attempts to arrest the ayatollah.
"[Security forces] took away his daughter and 38 others two months ago, they've freed them but they came this morning to take away [Boroujerdi] but the neighbors didn't give in," the man said. "They came again later to arrest him but his supporters have gathered here and will resist. Thank God, we're many, about 2,000 to 3,000."
Iran's ILNA news agency reported that police used tear gas to disperse the protest but protesters resisted by burning tires to counteract the effects of the gas.
Thousands! Excellent news. Thanks.
Separation of church and state sure puts a kink in Ahmanutjob's hose.
I wonder where Mr. Nuclear is right now?
WOW!
"For your homes and hearths, strike! For future generations of your sons and daughters, strike! In the name of your sacred dead, strike! Let no heart be faint. Let every arm be steeled. The guidance of Divine God points the way."
Dear God, it needs to be thousands more. I hope they show up, I hope they protect him.
Some background on Ayatollah Sayyid Hossein Kazemeini:

One way or another .. President Luntic of Iran's days are numbered
I think so too.
He cannot be allowed to remain in power.
Prayers up for these brave people. I have chills. There wes a man from Iran that was on a local talk radio station the other night. He wrote a book and was talking w an interpreter. He said that the Iranians were very pro-American and didn't like the Mullahs. He was only in his 20's but had been in prison 18 times in the last 13 years.
I know, spell check is my friend and didn't use it this time. Please pardon my typos.
what we need, is some kind of weapons drops into iran. we need to start funding our own insurgency inside iran.
its "DoctorZIn"
For the chronicles.
His idealogy seems consistent with Sistani's......maybe this will let the wind out of iraqi punk al Sadrs pantaloons in Baghdad.....with a little help from Sistani's southern shia......put on a nice little show while sunni's etc watch and later ask them if they want some?
I hope I'll wake up tomorrow to see images of Ahmadinejad's mangled corpse hanging from a lamp post.
wow....this could be BIG BIG news!!!!
A successful moderate revolution in Iran would re-set the entire Middle East chessboard.
I hope it's true, and I hope it's successful.
Let us hope.
Tick .. tock ...
I'm always hopeful! One day... "IT" will happen. Maybe that day has arrived.
I hope so, it would end the axis of evil and isolate korea. Iran could even go back to being our great ally like in the 70s?
It sure would. I'm imagining the good effects that a solid bloc of reasonably functional democracies -- Turkey, Iraq, Iran -- would have, sitting right there in that screwed up part of the world.
BTT
I hope we are helping them.
Me too!
I can only hope that the CIA has some part in this, starting a revolution would be just as effective as dropping bombs
Did you see this?

The Tehran regime's persecution of a dissident Shi'a cleric and his supporters reveals not just its own ruthlessness but the depth of opposition to its rule, says Nazenin Ansari.
28 September 2006, 8am, Avesta Street, Tehran: seven women and thirty-four men, aged between 23 and 60, leave the modest house after having spent another cold night in its courtyard guarding Ayatollah Sayyid Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi - a cleric who has become a thorn in the side of the ruling ayatollahs in Iran. Unbeknownst to them, they are each followed by a number of plain-clothed agents and security officers. Once they reach their individual destinations, they are ambushed separately and taken to section 209 of Evin prison.
further thirty-three people were arrested the following day. These seventy-four individuals are among hundreds of followers and supporters who have been shielding the ayatollah from arrest by the security forces since 30 July, when his house was attacked, his relatives arrested and tortured for twenty-one days in Evin prison. Indeed the security forces returned to the house on 3 August to arrest the holy man himself. But the ayatollah's devotees forced them to retreat.

May the energy of many free people be behind you in your quest to make Iran FREE. Fight for freedom Iran. Every effort, every drop of blood will be worth the wonderful life that lies ahead when you are living in freedom!
May the good Lord be with you in your struggle for what is right!
I can't wait for the day when all the Middle East is living in peace and freedom. I am grateful for the part America played in planting the seeds of democracy. I hope/trust we are helping you now, in the ways we can. As citizens of America, our prayers are with you, for your success over tyranny!

Great post! ;*)
Evnin Justa.
Justa catchin up.
Good news here!
Can you give us an update now? Thanks!
I hope so, too. Iran had so much promise several decades ago -- and still does if their is a regime change.
Thanks E, for the ping.
"Today, Iran remains the world's primary state sponsor of terror -- pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom they seek and deserve. We are working with European allies to make clear to the Iranian regime that it must give up its uranium enrichment program and any plutonium reprocessing, and end its support for terror. And to the Iranian people, I say tonight: As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you." -- President George W. Bush, State of the Union 2005
