There are conservatively 8 million Berber speakers, some of which are very successful French citizens, once the alphabet of the man's writing is ascertained (guessing from the fact they brought in a Arabic translator, he's probably Moroccan, Malians or Nigerian nationality of Berber, pinning down his dialect of Tuareg should be easy enough.
