If Professor Wichman has some evidence of students at MSU buying, selling, or otherwise exchanging slaves, I would be very interested in seeing it.

If you do not like the values of the West -- see the 1st Amendment -- you are free to leave. I hope for God's sake that most of you choose that option.

Perhaps Professor Wichman should see the 1st Amendment himself. Protests, no matter how "infantile" he may find them, are "the values of the West", personally, I think his whiny conflation of Muslim terrorists and Muslim MSU students is an "infantile" premise for his letter.

Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.

I would wage that despite Professor Wichman's protests, most of these students are Americans, even if many of they are the sons and daughters of immigrants (like I suspect he is) and not sons and daughters of Mayflower families.

If we were to truly test peoples' commitment to free speech here, we could note the irony of a white guy telling other people to "return to [their] ancestral homelands [...] instead of troubling Americans" -- on Columbus Day.

He has tenure so there isn't anything they can do to him. its about time a non-commie professor uses tenure to say some incredibly unpopular things on a college campus.

I may be mistaken, but the protection of tenure usually applies to research and teaching. Prof. Wichman's letter has nothing to do with Mechanical Engineering. Most leftist professors, however, are in the Humanities and Social Sciences, where politics, research, and teaching are not so clearly separated.

Maybe he should go to the "diversity" training AS LONG AS THE MUSLIMS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALSO! And make sure it specifically mentions how Christians should not be discriminated against as I know it will already speak of how much muslims have contributed. What a sack of crap! I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders, murders of Catholic priests (the latest in Turkey!), burnings of Christian churches, the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women (called "whores" in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland, and the rioting and looting in Paris, France.

This is what offends me, a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many, many of my colleagues. Apparently this guy's tenure does protect him as long as he doesn't violate any of the other sacred tenants of liberalism: like speech codes, complimenting women on their appearance, noting that the gay guys on campus talk funny, not offering your parking space to a less deserving minority each morning, etc.
