*The GOP will pick up seats: installment six

“………….many said the episode only reinforced their reasons to vote for their two Republican incumbents…. “

*The current situation: Nobody can tell us for certain, what will happen in November. When I speak optimistically it is because I have amassed a reservoir of information collected over the past ten months. I don’t do polls. Polls are only good as a momentary “snapshot” of the situation as it might be when the questions were asked.

What I do know is that the situation will change between now and even the end of this end. Based on the progress of the last ten days, the bleeding seems to have stopped and the Foley case is running out of “there”, if indeed there ever was any “there, there” to begin with.

The situation is likely to continue to turn around.

These things said, my prediction holds. Either this nation’s voters have taken a huge step backward and it is over, or the Foley case will boomerang on the Democrats. I believe the later.

As they ALWAYS do, the Democrats have so far overplayed their hand. They will continue to do so.

They are people who have little patience for thought. They run or emotion. Thought beats emotion.

The voters the Democrats fear the most, the ones they have no ways to reach, are the “Values voters”. Values voters will not turn away from the GOP and will be disgusted by the conduct of the Democrats, especially the “outing” of a number of Republicans. The names Democrats Ed Koch and Barbara Mikulski were included in the list as well. Big deal! Again the Democrats think that people are too dumb to ask where the list of Democrat homosexuals is. They are not.

October 9, 2006 Evangelicals Blame Foley, Not Republican Party “VIRGINIA BEACH, Oct. 7 — As word of Representative Mark Foley’s sexually explicit e-mail messages to former pages spread last week, Republican strategists worried — and Democrats hoped — that the sordid nature of the scandal would discourage conservative Christians from going to the polls.

“But in dozens of interviews here in southeastern Virginia, a conservative Christian stronghold that is a battleground in races for the House and Senate, many said the episode only reinforced their reasons to vote for their two Republican incumbents in neck-and-neck re-election fights, Representative Thelma Drake and Senator George Allen.

“…….The Democratic Party is “the party that is tolerant of, maybe more so than Republicans, that lifestyle,” Mr. Gwaltney said, referring to homosexuality.

“Most of the evangelical Christians interviewed said that so far they saw Mr. Foley’s behavior as a matter of personal morality, not institutional dysfunction. “All said the question of broader responsibility had quickly devolved into a storm of partisan charges and countercharges. And all insisted the episode would have little impact on their intentions to vote.

“In an interview on Friday, Pastor Anne Gimenez of the 15,000-member Rock Church here said the scandal “doesn’t change the issues we are voting on,” like abortion, public expression of religion and same-sex marriage.

“The church has been actively registering parishioners and reminding them to vote. “Every Sunday already,” Ms. Gimenez said.

The Democrats have been caught mocking the Christian Right, whom they don’t understand now and never have understood. This whole thing will turn into a major problem for the Democrats because voters don’t like people who “out” gays even if they, themselves, are opposed to gays and gay conduct.

The Democrats will never understand that it is the idea of having acceptance of gay conduct forced on them that repulses voters, not necessarily the conduct itself.

Not being Christians, the Democrats don’t understand hating the sin and loving the sinner.

The Democrat know about hate, but that’s about all.

37) Democrat’s have no understanding of who America’s enemies are

Insisting that George Bush and the GOP are the enemy and not the terrorists will catch up to the Democrats.

To the Democrats, Wal-mart, Coca Cola, Big Oil, Big Pharmaceuticals and American corporations in general are the enemy and terrorists have to be granted rights and protections against wire taping because terrorists are not our enemies. How many Democrat leaders like Harry Reid have publicly bragged about trying to “kill” the Patriot Act? Americans understand Democrats are foaming at the mouth America haters. They won’t be fooled in November.

Howard Dean sent the following message to Democrats across the country today.

“No on Hayden. Add your voice now! “As the director of the National Security Agency, Michael Hayden oversaw the creation of the massive domestic spying program revealed last week. Now George Bush wants him to run the CIA.”

General Hayden was confirmed and the Democrat’s plans the stop those who are trying to protect us from those who trying to kill us were stopped.

By tomorrow, October 10, the President will have taken back the agenda. There is no place to go with this “scandal” and talk of terrorists trying to kill us will trump tittering talk of “dirty” instant messages. Plus even liberal columnists are beginning to sense “gay bashing” in this “scandal”.

38) Democrats hyperbole “We shall overcome”? No “We shall over do!”

The Democrats are busy backing themselves into a corner where their regaining power will mean impeaching the President and shutting down Talk Radio. Both of these “crusades” will be rallying cries for conservatives and it will help drive them to the polls.

“Support for President Bush's policies among Republicans in Congress has been fraying lately, but of course that's nothing compared with what life will be like for the administration if the Democrats take over. “Count on it, the scrappy chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said in a Seattle interview Wednesday. “Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois said the war in Iraq has generated $480 billion in appropriations, deaths of more than 2,400 American troops, 18,000 American wounded and a policy morass, but Congress has held no substantive oversight hearings to demand accountability.

"A Democratic Congress would ask the questions and seek the answers that a Republican Congress has failed to do," he said when asked what would be the most significant policy results of a party shift in the House.

"The first job of the United States Congress is to provide oversight." By holding the administration accountable for its policies, he added, "I'm not saying accountable in the sense of punishment, but (of), what is going on here?"

Seattle Post Intelligencer, June 1, 2006

Comment

Charles Rangel is in line to by the House Ways and Means Chairman. He has said he will de-fund the war in Iraq. That will be de-funding the war on terror. The same 53% that voted for George Bush knows the two are one in the same. They will see de-funding as surrender and won’t be blinded by the Foley “scandal”.

Proof of the Democrat’s putting party of country

“Q&A With Congess: Democrats Can't Defend Murtha's Zarqawi Spin Democrats on Capitol Hill last week could not defend remarks by Rep. John Murtha (D.-Pa.), their party's leading advocate of withdrawing from Iraq, who claimed on CNN that the operation that resulted in the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi could have been carried out without U.S. troops on the ground.

“The U.S. military action involved far more than merely bombing Zarqawi's hideout.

“On June 8, Maj. Gen. William Caldwell first described the operation in a nationally televised briefing. "What everybody needs to understand is the strike last night did not occur in a 24-hour period," said Gen. Caldwell. "It truly was a very long, painstaking, deliberate exploitation of intelligence, information gathering, human sources, electronic signal intelligence that was done over … many, many weeks, that led us last night to that target."

"Immediately after killing Zarqawi," Caldwell said, "we then conducted 17 simultaneous raids within Baghdad proper and just on the outskirts." Those raids led to a "treasure trove" of intelligence that is "presently being exploited and utilized for further use."

“That night on CNN, Murtha told anchor John Roberts: "Now, this could have happened from the outside. People say, you see, we stayed in there. No, this was from the air, two bombs were dropped. So there’s no question -- from an F-16. So there's no question about this, it could have happened from outside."

Human Events Online 19 June 2006

Comment

Murtha wants to be the Majority Leader and is in line to become the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. The 53% will recognize this.

More of Murtha's remarks

“The U.S. presence in Iraq is more dangerous to world peace than nuclear threats from North Korea or Iran, Rep. John P. Murtha told an audience of more than 200 in North Miami on Saturday afternoon.

“Mr. Murtha, Pennsylvania Democrat, was the guest speaker at a town-hall meeting,[ in South Florida]…

“Mr. Murtha reiterated his views that the war cannot be won militarily and needs political solutions. He said the more than 100,000 troops in Iraq should be pulled out immediately and deployed to peripheral countries such as Kuwait.

"We do not want permanent bases in Iraq," Mr. Murtha said. "We want as many Americans out of there as possible."

Berkeley council passes balanced budget {and votes for impeachment}

“. . . Finally, the [ Berkeley City ] council voted unanimously to place an advisory measure on the November ballot calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Arguing for the measure was Daniel Ellsberg, the man who leaked the Pentagon Papers, who answered the inevitable only-in-Berkeley arguments by asking, "If not here, where?"

“The council also proclaimed Tuesday "Cindy Sheehan Day in the city of Berkeley," in honor of the anti-war activist who moved here last spring. Said Councilwoman Betty Olds, who sponsored the proclamation, "Berkeley is a better place to live now that Cindy Sheehan lives here."

“Dem Compares Schwarzenegger To Kim Jong-Il”

“Will missiles soon be flying in the California governor's race? Bob Mulholland, senior advisor to Democratic nominee Phil Angelides, aims for controversy this morning, saying: "With North Korea leader Kim Jong-Il back in the news, it reminds me that he and Schwarzenegger have something in common. Both have their shoes specifically made to add a couple inches of lift. What we don’t know is does Kim Jong-Il have his shoes made by Schwarzenegger’s shoemaker in Italy."

“…In 2003, Mulholland warned Arnold Schwarzenegger that "real bullets" will be coming his way during his campaign to be governor.

"Schwarzenegger is going to find out, that unlike a Hollywood movie set, the bullets coming at him in this campaign are going to be real bullets and he is going to have to respond to them," warned Mulholland.”

39) Values gap

Harvard study tells parties to court 'religious centrists'

“College students are becoming more religious, and it's affecting their political views, according to a new Harvard University survey of this potentially influential voting bloc. "Religious centrists" rule, according to the university.

“A full 70 percent say religion plays an important part in their lives, with a quarter saying their spirituality has increased at college. Six out of 10 say they are concerned about the moral direction of the country, according to the poll of 1,200 students from across the country, conducted March 13 to 27 and released Tuesday.

"Religion and morality are critical to how students think about politics and form opinions on political issues," said Jeanne Shaheen, a former New Hampshire governor and director of Harvard's Institute of Politics, which conducted the poll.

“The Harvard study advises political parties to woo the spiritually inclined, a demographic that the popular press mostly deemed the exclusive territory of the "religious right" in the past two presidential elections.

"This analysis foreshadows the 2008 general election campaign for president where religious centrists, nearly a quarter of the student vote, will be the critical swing vote ... and likely the most influential group in American politics for years," according to the survey.

“Attracting the elusive youth vote with hip text messages and celebrities is already a serious business among multiple partisan interest groups: 12 million voters ages 18 to 24 went to the polls in the 2004 presidential election, up 25 percent since 2000. But the groups are after larger prey. The young population is a behemoth demographic: There are 71 million Americans who are younger than 30, and they are a target.

"Generation Y is large, increasingly active and up-for-grabs politically," F. Christopher Arterton of George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management said last month after releasing the school's new analysis of innovative voter initiatives aimed at the young and restless.

“The Harvard researchers had their own unorthodox methods. Using a "political personality test," the pollsters divided the youth vote into subsets that bend ideological barriers and create a number of political hybrids, they say.

“Overall, the youthful voting bloc is 32 percent Democrat, 24 percent Republican and 41 percent independent or unaffiliated. In addition, 44 percent are "traditional" liberals and 16 percent "traditional" conservatives, with two more identifications thrown into the mix: religious centrists and secular centrists.

“Just who are these religious centrists? According to Harvard, they are optimistic about the future, politically engaged and deeply concerned about the moral direction of the United States. They also are protective of the environment; support universal health care and free trade, and draw the support of young Hispanics and blacks.

“Secular centrists, in the meantime, are optimistic but do not factor religion into their thinking. They support abortion and homosexual rights and are least likely to vote.

“A breakdown of collegiate party preferences reveals further complexities. Republicans are composed of 34 percent traditional conservatives, 30 percent religious centrists, 20 percent secular centrists and 16 percent who consider themselves traditional liberals. Among Democrats, 59 percent are traditional liberals, 24 percent are religious centrists, 9 percent secular centrists and 7 percent are traditional conservatives.

“The new labels may portend some more flexible thinking on the part of anxious political consultants.

"Party identification is misleading, antiquated and only tells a small part about the beliefs of an individual," according to the survey, which advised Democrats not to cede issues of morality to the Republican Party and admonished Republicans to focus on issues beyond the "?'Big Three' -- abortion, stem-cell research and gay marriage."

The Washington Times April 13, 2006

Comment

The Democrats should not “cede issues of morality”? This is a laugh. With Bill Clinton in charge of their party, what else can they do? Moreover, these numbers don’t exactly jive with an orderly breakdown, but that can be attributed to the confusion of youth. Nevertheless, the one constant is a leaning toward religion and religious values. Both are and will be problems for Democrats.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Supports Legislation to Repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'

“Congresswoman Pelosi has joined a growing Congressional coalition who support strengthening national security, and guaranteeing equal opportunity for our men and women in uniform, through the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’” said SLDN executive director C. Dixon Osburn.

“Congresswoman Pelosi’s home district of San Francisco ranks third in the nation for its per capita population of lesbian and gay veterans. Her support of repeal legislation honors their service and the service of 65,000 lesbian and gay Americans on duty today. Congresswoman Pelosi is a leading ally of the LGBT community, and we are proud to have her fighting for an end to discrimination in our armed forces.”

“Congressman Marty Meehan (D-MA) introduced the Military Readiness Enhancement Act in March 2005. The legislation would repeal the military’s prohibition on open service by lesbian, gay and bisexual recruits and replace it with a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Since 1993, more than 10,000 men and women have been discharged under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law at a cost of at least $363.8 million, according to a study from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Strong Signs of Rift Among Democrats

“The liberal challenge to Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) escalated Friday when the political arm of MoveOn.org, an influential online advocacy group, endorsed the political newcomer opposing his bid for re-nomination.

“Gaining the support of MoveOn's political action committee was Ned Lamont, a businessman who wants to unseat Lieberman largely because of the veteran lawmaker's staunch support for the war in Iraq.

“The group announced its backing after polling MoveOn's members in Connecticut.

“MoveOn has emerged as a leading voice for left-leaning activists, and the endorsement marks the first time that its PAC has sought to unseat an incumbent Democratic senator.

"Lamont's message resonated with members who want a senator who will stand up to President Bush on key issues and represent the views of most people in Connecticut," said Eli Pariser, executive director of the MoveOn PAC.

" …. This is a fight for the soul of the Democratic Party," said Marshall Wittmann, a senior fellow at the centrist Democratic Leadership Council.”

'Moronic' remark

“New York State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi publicly apologized yesterday for a "beyond dumb" remark about "putting a bullet between the president's eyes."

“Mr. Hevesi hastily called a mea culpa press conference hours after putting his foot in his mouth at the Queens College commencement, New York TV station WNBC reports at its Web site (www.wnbc.com). Mr. Hevesi said he hadn't been in touch with the White House but hoped his apology had reached President Bush. Mr. Hevesi also called his comments "remarkably stupid" and "incredibly moronic."

Let’s not forget Ellison’s support of Nation of Islam

“Imagine that a Republican seeks his party's endorsement for the U.S. House of Representatives, despite having been allied with a white supremacist organization just a decade earlier. Imagine that this candidate had once sarcastically proposed setting aside certain states for white citizens and had shared a stage with a speaker known for excoriating Jews as "bloodsuckers."

“You're right. That man wouldn't get his party's endorsement. He would probably want to go into hiding after the howl of negative media coverage.

“So how did we get Keith Ellison?

“State Rep. Keith Ellison of Minneapolis is the DFL-endorsed candidate for the Fifth District congressional seat. In this DFL bastion, that means that -- barring a primary loss -- Ellison will succeed Martin Sabo when Congress reconvenes next year.

“Ellison's background is, shall we say, unorthodox. He is a former outspoken supporter of Louis Farrakhan's notorious Nation of Islam, a virulently anti-white, anti-Semitic organization once led by Black Muslim leader Elijah Muhammad.

“Ellison came to public attention in 1990, when, using the name Keith E. Hakim, he defended Farrakhan in a Minnesota Daily article while a law student at the University of Minnesota. In another 1990 Daily column, Ellison claimed that splitting America into two nations, with five Southern states set aside for blacks, would be preferable to "liberal social programs."

"Black-white interaction would be voluntary instead of compelled," he wrote.

“In 1995, Ellison helped organize Minnesota participation in the Million Man March in Washington, D.C., which the Nation of Islam convened. At a fundraiser for the event, he shared the stage with Khalid Abdul Muhammad, who described himself as Farrakhan's "flamethrower." In 1994, according to the Washington Post, Khalid had called Jews "the bloodsuckers of the black nation."

“Here in Minneapolis, at the event where Ellison shared the stage with him, Khalid delivered "racist ranting," according to a Star Tribune article. "If words were swords," said the article, "the chests of Jews, gays and whites would be pierced."

“…In 1998, the Star Tribune described Ellison as "well-known in the black community as ... a supporter of Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam." Ellison says he can't recall seeing the article or seeking a correction. No correction was published.

“…Reached Wednesday, Ellison said he broke his ties with the Nation of Islam when "it became clear to me that their message of empowerment intertwined with more negative messages."

“….Apparently, Ellison has not been fully candid about the duration of his support for the Nation of Islam. In fact, today he insists that he never shared the organization's extremist views. The record raises questions about that.

“There's a strange irony here. In April 2004, Minnesota's public safety commissioner at the time, Rich Stanek, resigned after acknowledging making racist comments in 1992. At a news conference, Keith Ellison and other black leaders condemned Stanek's remarks and vowed to fight his confirmation.

“Stanek repudiated the comments and said he had changed. Nevertheless, Ellison didn't give him the benefit of the doubt. "He's definitely one to hold other people accountable, so I held him accountable," Ellison told the Star Tribune. Now it's Ellison's turn.”

41) The crashing and burning of “liberal alternative media”

“'PROGRESSIVE' MEDIA STALLS: 'AIR AMERICA' IN AUDIENCE PLUNG NYC, 'DAILY KOS' BOOK ONLY SELLS 3,600 COPIES.”

Wed Apr 26 2006 11:39:51 ET

”Left-leaning new media has hit turbulence at the marketplace, newly released stats show.

”A book hyped as documenting a progressive revolution of "blogs" and political power, DAILY KOS 'CRASHING THE GATE,' has sold only 3,630 copies since its release last month, according to NIELSEN's BOOKSCAN.

”Meanwhile, the just released radio Winter Book [Jan-Mar] from ARBITRON shows AIR AMERICA in New York City losing more than a third of its audience -- in the past year!

”Among all listeners 12+, it was a race to the bottom for AIR AMERICA and WLIB as mid-days went from a 1.6 share during winter 2005 to a 1.0 share winter 2006.

”During PM drive, host Randi Rhodes plunged to 27,900 listeners every quarter hour, finishing 25th place in her time slot, down from 49,000 listeners every quarter hour last year.”

42) The Democrat’s “Roman Catholic” problem

San Francisco City Government Calls Catholics 'Hateful, Discriminatory, Insulting, Ignorant'

“In one of the most startling attacks on the Catholic Church coming from a governmental body in the United States in half a century, the governing body of the city of San Francisco - the Board of Supervisors - voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a non-binding resolution blasting the Catholic Church for its opposition to homosexual adoption.

“While many city's residents agree with the Church's stand against homosexual adoption, the resolution stated "It is an insult to all San Franciscans when a foreign country, like the Vatican, meddles with and attempts to negatively influence this great city's existing and established customs and traditions, such as the right of same-sex couples to adopt and care for children in need."

“The city supervisors leveled an ad homonym attack on former San Francisco Archbishop William Levada, who has been appointed to head the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), one of the most senior posts in the Church. " Cardinal Levada is a decidedly unqualified representative of his former home city, and of the people of San Francisco and the values they hold dear,'' the resolution stated.

“The supervisors also demonstrated their childishness as they attempted another dig at the Cardinal by indicating in the resolution that the CDF was once known as the Office of the Inquisition. "That the Board of Supervisors urges Cardinal William Levada, in his capacity as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican (formerly known as Holy Office of the Inquisition), to withdraw his discriminatory and defamatory directive that Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco stop placing children in need of adoption with homosexual households," reads the resolution.

“The resolution attacked the teaching of the Catholic Church that homosexual adoption does "violence" to children since they would be placed in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development. The resolution blasted the teaching as "hateful and discriminatory rhetoric (that) is both insulting and callous, and shows a level of insensitivity and ignorance which has seldom been encountered by this Board of Supervisors.''

Demonstrating their own profound ignorance, at least in terms of biological realities, the supervisors contend, "Same-sex couples are just as qualified to be parents as are heterosexual couples."

Concluding, the board urged current San Francisco "Archbishop Neiderauer and the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Francisco to defy all discriminatory directives of Cardinal Levada."

Religious leaders petition to back U.S. marriage amendment

“WASHINGTON — About 50 prominent religious leaders, including seven Roman Catholic cardinals and about a half-dozen archbishops, have signed a petition in support of a constitutional amendment blocking same-sex marriage, the New York Times reported April 24. The signers include many influential evangelical Protestants, a few rabbis and a Mormon leader.

“Both the organizers and gay-rights groups noted the direct involvement by high-ranking Roman Catholic officials, including 16 bishops. "We think the American people are on our side on this, and want the Senate to know it," said Roman Catholic Archbishop John J. Myers of Newark, the Times reported. Aides to three Republican senators weighing ’80 presidential runs — Bill Frist of Tennessee; Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania; and Sam Brownback of Kansas — were also involved, organizers said, the newspaper reported.”

Only Bigots are for the Marriage Protection Act?

“A vote for this amendment ( Marriage Protection Act ) is a vote for bigotry pure and simple.”

So said Senator Edward Kennedy and in doing so he called the U.S. Catholic Bishops bigots. Of course the media didn’t make this connection. Human Events June 12, 2006 edition did. The Democrats may think this was not a problematic statement because the media hid it, but to a certain segment of Catholic Democrats, this is a problem that will show up in November.

Illegal Immigration Unites Democrats, Catholic Church

“Catholic bishops shouldn’t talk about politics, left-wing pundits say, except on the subject of illegal immigration. On that subject even the most ardent supporters of the separation of church and state are happy to hear the bishops opine. Liberals are cheering the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for calling on churchgoers to harbor illegal immigrants in their homes to keep them safe from the U.S. Border Patrol.

“On Ash Wednesday, Cardinal Roger Mahoney of Los Angeles instructed priests and churchgoers to disobey enforcement provisions of a House of Representatives immigration bill. Washington, D.C., Cardinal Theodore McCarrick said the scriptures justified aiding illegal immigrants. McCarrick said, “[How] many of us have not violated some laws, whatever they might have been—either they’re traffic laws or immigration laws or tax laws, something like that.”

Anyone who believes that the USCC has the slightest bit of sway with pew filling ( not nominal , but pew sitting ) Catholics on this issue is not an adherent Catholic. Maybe a guy like E.J. Dionne might believe this, but it just doesn’t wash. It’s like union leaders endorsing Democrats. In some places the only votes the Democrats get out of it come from the union staff themselves. |

Vatican firm on gay marriage

” VATICAN authority on family values spelled out the Roman Catholic Church's uncompromising opposition to same-sex marriages in a newspaper interview published today as a Catholic meeting on the family began in Spain, where such unions are legal. "There are not several models (for marriage), there is only one, which comes from God and is irreplaceable," the Colombian Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, organiser of the fifth Catholic World Meeting of Families, said.

"Marriage is not a project of parliament or institutions, which are here today and gone tomorrow," said Mr Trujillo, who is also president of the Vatican's Pontifical Council for the Family.”

Not God's Party: A new poll shows Democrats are losing (more) religious voters

“When Democratic Party leaders "found God in the 2004 exit polls," as Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne Jr. likes to say, no one expected instant results. Many of the party's early efforts to attract religious voters, after all, were scattershot and not a little awkward. No one knew quite what the "faith staffer" ”a new breed of legislative aide” was supposed to do, and random-seeming insertions of Bible verses into floor speeches came off as Tourette's syndrome for Democrats.

“In the longer run, though, the new focus on forming relationships with religious communities and voters has been the right move for a party that had essentially limited its religious outreach to black churches. Democratic campaign trainings now smartly include tips for communicating with Catholic voters. Candidates are starting to appear on religious radio outlets.

And Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean has even stopped saying things to intentionally antagonize evangelicals.

“Finally, Catholic voters are increasingly skeptical. Support for Democrats' approach to religion dropped by 10 points among Catholic Democrats, 16 points among Catholic Independents, and 25 points among Catholic Republicans, including a 9-point decline just in the last year.

“ As the party hemorrhages Catholic support at the polls, it's past time to hire a national party staffer to focus on Catholic outreach and strategy. Alas, the Democratic National Committee has been looking for a year to fill such a position, with no results.

“Which is why it is startling that in the two years since this Democratic revival began, the party's faith-friendly image has dimmed rather than improved. The Pew Research Center's annual poll on religion and politics, released last week, shows that while 85 percent of voters say religion is important to them.”

As the co-chairman of Catholics Against Kerry in 2004, I had contact with Catholics all over America. Catholics were not just unhappy with John Kerry, but the whole Democrat Party. Since then nothing has changed. If anything the relationship has gotten worse. Kerry lost the catholic vote 52/ 47. To the Catholics in that 52%, the situation is just as bad.

In next week’s final installment, number 7, the last 5 reasons will be discussed. It will be posted at 8AM EST.on October 16.

44) The 10th Amendment effect

46) Democrats take orders from the far left and it shows

Things are turning. The worse is behind us. Now to repair the damage and get back ahead with a strong push back. Do you think Rove did not expect this? Do you think the party that has out smarted the rat for all these years has nothing left with a month to go?

I don't. I think with the North Korean bomb situation and the foley "well" apparently drying up, this falls off the radar and when the rat wakes up a week from now he will find he has gained nothing but lost some fence sitters who are disgusted with this whole thing and them, not the GOP. The NYT article on the Evangelicals sticking with us talks about many interviews being done. I'll bet, and you and I know why. But they STILL couldn't find the pull quote they were looking for.

The rats must gain back some power or lose their constituents. Already, many "African-Americans" are saying the Democrats aren't doing anything for them and they are right... they aren't because the rats are not in power. Gys will get upset that gy marriage isn't being pushed in the courts fast enough.

If the rats don't get the House or the Senate, watch for the democratic party to splinter and degrade.

Man, I would love it if they fought back

I couldn't agree more.

I thought that's what we paid them for?

Tony Perkins, trying to be Holier Than Thou, was calling for Hastert's resignation....how idiotic. The Democrats have forced GAYS on us like they are normal...they are not...all they think about is the way they have sex...it's disgusting.

The Dems want GAy Boy Scout LEADERS..LEADERS!!! and the ACLU is fighting for NAMBLA to get the age of consent lowered so more men can have sex with younger and younger boys!!! DOUBLE DISGUSTING!!

Agree, it is only wishful thinking. Also, in similar situations the incumbent Party loses seats (i.e. LBJ and Reagan). I think it is only a question of how many seats are lost in 2006. But, we should be back strong in 2008, assuming we nominate someone with conservative credentials.

OK, I'll bite. How many seats do you expect the GOP to pick up?

There was a short debate on TV yesterday with the incumbent Demo rep who is a sure shot for reelection. She blathered on about what Foley did was "abhorrent." Come on, give me a break. But of course that is the type of hyperbolic rhetoric they engage in.

Meanwhile her opponent sounded so bad I had to turn it off. I've met him and he's a good guy, but just not the least bit telegenic. Not to mention he has no $$ and no organization, so this is one of the many seats they have to rate as "safe," unfortunately. His first few sentences sounded so ineffectual I just couldn't watch anymore. It is really unfortunate since this Foley non scandal should be an issue on which the GOP can fight back hard, and even make points against the Dems.

The Boy Scout, gay marriage, and the NAMBLA situations should be the subject of national ads. I'd love to see Jackie Mason do the ads with his usual wise cracks. Jackie would have voters snorting with assorted beverages coming out their noses just before they changed their votes to the GOP candidate. It's like Barry Bonds has been lobbed a softball, but will the Republicans take advantage.

I think perhaps if a lot of Dems in otherwise GOP leaning districts manage to win as a fluke this year, they will be vulnerable next time. But it still would be an uphill climb for Repubs to take back control. The Dems of course will fight dirty and do everything they can to keep control another 40 years.

If they win though, at least there are some bright spots. The parties will remain competitive, and presumably the Demo majority would not be that big. This will be a change from that dark period from 1958 to 1994 where the Dems never had fewer than 243 seats. The GOP could hardly come close.

In addition, 12 years in the majority isn't bad. If I'm not mistaken, since the FDR era began the Demo dominance of Congress, up until 1994, the GOP only took control twice in 1946 and 1952. Both those times their majority lasted a mere 2 years. Had the 1994 election been a fluke, and the Dems came back in '96, it would have been a total disaster. But at least now they have improved their standing, created a stronger grass roots organization, and are much better at getting out the vote. So with luck and hard work, even if we are in the minority again in 2007, Repubs are in a better position than they were in previous generations.

I haven't talked to one GOP voter that has changed their minds about voting GOP. Of course, things are looking good for the GOP here in GA.

Jmarone, you know who your friends are when they stand tall even during bleak moments in time. It is refreshing too see your support of the GOP while other Weak need Republicans freak out about irrelevant Scandals and jump ship. As we saw with the Lunatics in North Korea today, America needs to support the fight for National Security, not engage in liberal media Democrat smear campaigns..

Tnc, it might help the GOP Presidential candidate in 2008 to have Botox Nancy running the House, but in the short term it hurts America. We are not talking about a sane leader here. she will bow to the ACLU and make it tougher on wire tapping etc.. and will kill the morale of our troops along with anti-American John Conyers.

There is no silver lining to having appeasers in charge in a war on terror and North Korea.

The current crop of republicans/conservatives are the most inarticulate yet, they do the right thing, and then let the democrats twist and demonize the right thing. Why are so many conservatives so inarticulate???

_________

Democrats send their best into politics. Republicans send those who have the time.

Puppage if you research past elections, Rove usually times his genius until 2 or 3 weeks before elections, so the info stays fresh in the voters minds. And remember GOTV starts 72 Hours before Voting day.
