Saddam's men 'buried family alive'
Herald Sun ^ | 9 October 2006 | Kawther Abdul-Amir

SADDAM Hussein's forces buried a Kurdish family alive in a mass grave in northern Iraq in the 1980s, a witness told the genocide trial of the ousted Iraqi leader today.

The Kurdish woman, sitting to the left of the judges and speaking from behind a curtain to protect her identity, was the latest witness to give testimony about Saddam's 1988 Anfal (Spoils of War) campaign against the Kurds in northern Iraq.

"I know the fate of my family. They were buried alive," she told the court through a translator. "I would like to ask Saddam a question: 'What was the guilt of women and children?".

She did not say how many members of her family were buried alive. Prosecutors said identity cards belonging to members of her family had been found in mass graves in Kurdistan.

Thousands of Kurds, including many women and children, were taken from their villages, executed and then dumped in mass graves in northern and southern Iraq, prosecutors say.

Saddam's trial resumed today after a two-week break. Chaos reigned at the previous session, when Saddam was repeatedly ejected from the courtroom and his lawyers walked out over the sacking of the chief judge.

Saddam and his six co-accused were present today, but their defence team continued to boycott the trial in protest at the Government's dismissal of chief judge Abdullah al-Amiri for saying Saddam was "not a dictator".

Impossible. We all know that the atrocities only began after the evil George Bush and Karl Rove invaded Iraq.

The MSM told me so.

But didn't they have free healthcare? That's gotta count for something.

Yeah, I'm sick of the way this just drags on forever. Just read the verdict from the first trial, sentence him to death, drag him out of the courtroom and string him up.

This "trial" is a farce. How does the accused walk out of a trial? Shoot him and be done with it. Anything else is giving him the opportunity to work his way back into power.

If the MSM were in support of our actions in Iraq, this would be all over the front pages and in the headlines.

It would be a lot easier on everyone if Saddam died from"Natural Causes" in his cell. There must be a doctor somewhere in Iraq who could arrange this.

He should die of a "Heart Attack" , be autopsied by "Experts" ,be cremated and his ashes flushed down the nearest toilet all within hours.

The Kennedy's should be able to give good advice, they took care of John-John in this manner quickly before a drug test could be given at an autopsy.

If this trial is going to go on like this until they hear every single accusation against Saddam, then Saddam is never going to be executed. He will die a peaceful death in prison.

well that makes me feel good, that during Gulf War I, we came along with bulldozers and plowed under hundreds of Saddams finest right in their trenches.....

Why don't they just give him the Jim McDougal treatment where they pump you full of Lasix (a diuretic) and then give you another medicine that keep you from urinating.

I like this extended trial.

Right before my eyes Saddam has gone from being the rabid monster of childhood nightmares to being a sad old mangy wolf with broken teeth.

Reading about his rants in court have really opened my eyes to the truth about Saddam and others like him. Sick enough to viciously murder thousands but not man enough to hear his victims tell the tales.

The reason why this trail is taking so long is, it sends a strong message to the other middle east rulers, that your day is coming. and a message to the peoples of the area that they to can hold their leaders accountable. Not so long ago saddam would've just been taken out and shot, by holding this very public trial they are showing the other Arabs that they are going to have a nation of laws, laws that apply even to the likes of Saddam.
For the Arab world this trial is a very big deal.

"If this trial is going to go on like this until they hear every single accusation against Saddam, then Saddam is never going to be executed. He will die a peaceful death in prison."

Actually it's worse than that. If this drags out until after the 2008 elections it's likely the US will pull out and Saddam will be released and back in power the next day. I have never understood why he wasn't shot in the hole where they found him?
