This is a report from the Keep Arkansas Legal Meeting, Saturday October 8th at the Fletcher Library. Keep Arkansas Legal is a Central Arkansas group dedicated to stopping illegal immigration.
We mainly discussed the effects of illegal immigration on Arkansas. Sharon told stories of how illegals who are supposed to do lawn work end up trashing the place. We all talked about ways to get peoples attention about this issue. Topics include the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock, Aztlan, in-state tuition for illegals, welfare for illegals, and population congestion. Brent gave us all a DVD about how socialism is destroying America. For now, we decided to focus on informing voters about illegal immigration and helping candidates that will reform immigration. We then had dinner and visited the building that has the hidden illegally built Mexican Consulate. I took pictures of the place.
We have several kinds of flyers to pass out to people. We have some material from the Jim Holt Campaign. Holt is the strongest advocate for reforming illegal immigration in Arkansas Government and is running for Lt. Governor. We also have an Aztlan flyer that has the Aztlan map and quotes from illegal immigration supporters. Its a great 2-sided flyer to get people interested in the issue. Another flyer we have is a Keep Arkansas Legal flyer. This has more facts about immigration and contact information for people to get involved with our organization. Its only got stuff on 1 side. What I would like to do is combine these 2 flyers, but that will take some time. For now, we need to spread the word with what we have.
With that in mind, we need to go to events and hand out flyers until Election Day. Below is a list of events to go to:
Saturday October 14, 2006, 8:00am to 5:30pm Old Fashion Day is an annual event held in downtown Benton on and around the Courthouse square. Craft booths, food vendors, exhibits, games and many displays will be part of the event. http://www.benton.ar.gov/special_events.htm I plan to be there around 10-11am. I would suggest bringing lunch.
Friday October 13th- Sunday 22nd The Arkansas State Fair will be going on. In addition to passing out flyers in general, I believe we should target the farmer and rodeo events. http://www.arkansasstatefair.com/fair/index.php
Tuesday October 17th 12:15pm The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will have lunch box discussion about illegal immigration. It will be in the Dohageny Student Center Leadership Lounge. Its hosted by the Hispanic Heritage Month people so plan on an argument.
Tuesday October 17th either 6 or 7pm. Asa Hutchinson, the Republican candidate for Governor, and Mike Beebe, the Democratic candidate for Governor will have a debate at the Clinton Library
Saturday October 21st 3pm-6pm Keep Arkansas legal will have its next meeting. I plan to have it at the Western Sizzlin in North Little Rock 5306 John F Kennedy Blvd.
