'Doonesbury' Creator Condemns Muhammad Cartoons Posted by Greg Sheffield on October 9, 2006 - 15:10. Gary Trudeau, creator of the 'Doonesbury' comic strip, says cartoonists should draw the line when it comes to offending people. In an interview published in the Santa Barbara Independent:
Q. What did you make of the Danish cartoon mess? I understand that you said you would never play with the image of Allah. But did you feel you should have done so out of a sense of professional solidarity, or to make a statement about freedom of speech? A. What exactly would that statement be? That we can say whatever we want in the West? Everyone already knows that. So then the question becomes, should we say whatever we want? That, to me, is the crux. Do you hurt people just because you can? Because you feel they shouldnt be deeply hurt, does that mean they arent? Should the New York Times run vicious caricatures of blacks and Jews just to show the First Amendment in action? At some point, common sense and sensitivity have to be brought to bear.

cartoonists should draw the line when it comes to offending people. But it's OK to offend conservatives because they're not really people?

Some cartoonists, Mr. Trudeau, have the balls to attack people who are actually dangerous.

Gary Trudeau is simply attempting, in the manner of most leftward-thinking liberals, to vindicate his cowardice under a shallow veil of respect.
Of course, anyone who won't stab him to death at the first opportunity when he offends them is fair game.

Good point. Trudeau says this:
Should the New York Times run vicious caricatures of blacks and Jews just to show the First Amendment in action?
But then calls Condi "Brown Sugar" Do as I say, not as I do, eh?
And what do you do, Garry, with folks who will be offended by just about anything?

That's like Billdo Dillbo Dilldo Klintoon preaching against . . .

That's not an attack on Christians, it's an attack on Creationists. If you equate them, you admit that Creationism is a religious belief, not a scientific one.

But I won't shoot his relatives, burn down his house, or chant "Death to Trudeau!" with a few hundred thousand of my friends.

Doonesbury--the worst cartoon comic anywhere. It has to be condemned as rabid RAT propaganda. I've tried to get the local rag to cancel it but they refuse, but they did cancel the conservative duck comic. Go figure!
To: rbosque
"Cartoonists should draw the line when it cames to offending
people"? Trudeau's lame strip offends me every time I see it.
Oh, I guess Christians and Republicans aren't "people".
