LONG BEACH Authorities say former television reporter Rod Bernsen was arrested over the weekend after coming off a cruise ship in Long Beach.

F-B-I spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says Bernsen, a former Los Angeles Police Department sergeant and K-T-T-V Channel Eleven reporter, was arrested based on allegations he committed a crime aboard a cruise ship.

U-S attorney's office spokesman Thom Mrozek said he couldn't say what Bernsen was booked for because the complaint hasn't been filed yet.

Eimiller says Bernsen is being held without bail pending an initial appearance tomorrow afternoon in L-A federal court.

I think in this atmosphere he is on his own, at least until after the elections. Then he may get some democrat NAMBLA supports to come to his defense. :D (that was a joke, not sure if it was a with a boy or girl)

Whoa.

You wonder, was it a girl, 17, who looked 25 and SAID she was 25? Or was he diddling girls? There is a difference.

Unfortunately, as I understand it, virtually all such ships are flagged under third-world governments, meaning legal settlements must be filled under that government's system.

That any cruise ship helps is only a matter of courtesy. I don't believe any such assistance is required.

I will never take a trip on a cruise ship in light of such concern.

From a blog on this:

http://blog.lipcon.com/2006/09/cruise_passenger_safety_cruise.html

When you are at sea you are at the mercy of the Shipping Company without any access to independent information. Cruise ship passengers are no longer under many of the laws and protections of the United States. You are in a foreign county such as Liberia or Panama or whatever foreign flag the vessel is flying.

The Cruise S.O.S. Card contains emergency instructions as well as vital emergency contact information that every cruise passenger should have. With crimes ship crime increasing at an alarming pace you have to protect yourself. Download the free Cruise S.O.S. Card now so you and your family have the information you need to protect yourself in the event you are a victim of cruise ship crime.

Note: Rod was the 'in helicopter talent' and not the actual pilot.

KTTV said there was some sort of confrontation between him and the boys' parents. (I have to wonder what two 12-year-olds are doing in a sauna with a grown man, but whatever...)

Cripes, Mr. Bernsen. wtf!

(If he doesn't challenge "high seas" automatically making his case "federal," he is truly crazy.)

KFI reporting they were nephews...or related. Including sexual talk and touching, repeated times.

He is related to Corbin Bernsen.

Bernsen always seemed to be a decent sort when he'd fill in on KFI.
Time will tell if he's a Foley-esque fink or victim of a false accusation.

I never knew that. Which makes him related to Corbin's mother, who plays Kay Chancellor on The Young and the Restless. What are they, half-brothers? cousins?

Bernsen, 58, was suspected of molesting two 12-year-old boys in the ship's sauna. One or more of the boys' parents confronted Bernsen and notified a ship investigator, according to the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the case.

FBI agents interviewed the two alleged victims when the ship pulled into port early Saturday, the sources said, and Bernsen brought a lawyer on board. He was arrested several hours later. His wife and his sister were with him on the trip, one of the sources said.

On Sunday, federal prosecutors brought a complaint against Bernsen to U.S. Magistrate Judge Jennifer T. Lum, who found that there was probable cause to continue holding the former reporter until courts open today, the sources said.

His own news station said yesterday that it was 12 year old boys.
