Apple's "Mecca Project" Provokes Muslim Reaction

On October 10, 2006, an Islamic website posted a message alerting Muslims to what it claims is a new insult to Islam. According to the message, the cube-shaped building which is being constructed in New York City, on Fifth Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets in midtown Manhattan, is clearly meant to provoke Muslims. The fact that the building resembles the Ka'ba (see picture below), is called "Apple Mecca," is intended to be open 24 hours a day like the Ka'ba, and moreover, contains bars selling alcoholic beverages, constitutes a blatant insult to Islam. The message urges Muslims to spread this alert, in hope that "Muslims will be able to stop the project."

Some members of the Religion Of The Easily Offended got ahold of a construction photo. The structure is all glass (low-iron at that, so it's ultra-clear).

I think it's beautiful, but that's just me.

What's odd is that certain folks were all bent out of shape last winter while it was under construction, and seem to have resurrected an old photo. Rather strange.

The hypocrisy exercised by those people who chose to act violently in opposition to those cartoons of Mohammed, and those companies that decided to distance themselves from the Danish are irresponsible and hypocritical.

 

This is not a hate video or an "arab-bashing" video. I have nothing against Arabic peoples. This video is purely to expose the hypocrisy in light of a particular event.

Please do not misinterpret this for your own racist causes.

This video blog explains my hatred for the hypocritical standards of many Islamic peoples in reference to the cartoons of the prophet Mohammed depicted in a Danish newspaper. It sparked riots in the Muslim world, yet their portrayal of Jews in their media is far worse and is rarely acknowledged. I will not accept the double-standards of the Arabic world.

For years, Islam has satirised and parodied the Jewish and Christian deities and icons in much worse circumstances than the current cartoon displayed in that Danish newspaper. Nobody cared when it was Christians or Jews. Why? Because, it was in light heart and the Christians and the Jews were the ones laughing in reflection. Now, when the parody is reversed, parts of the Muslim world use it as another excuse to label us as "zionist infidels" and look for another reason to kill us all.

 

There is one rule for one and another set for others. We are always hearing from Muslims that there are the extremists that are casuing the problem for them - but those extremists are the 'leaders' of their religion. There are few extremists from other religions that we hear about. The world will get worse before it gets better.
