Federal Reserve Expanding Program That Helps Mexican Illegal Aliens Send Money Home
Lou Dobbs Tonight (Transcript) ^ | 10-11-2006 | Casey Wyan

Posted on 10/12/2006 9:54:53 AM PDT by jmc813

Apparently oblivious to the promised federal crackdown on illegal immigration, the U.S. Federal Reserve is expanding a program that helps Mexican illegal aliens send money home. It's called Directo a Mexico.

The Fed's marketing material says it's the most convenient way to transfer your money to Mexico. The Fed says your family receives more pesos for every dollar you send, because Directo a Mexico offers the best exchange rate. And it reassures illegal alien customers they won't lose their money, even if they're deported. Texas Congressman Jeb Hensarling is on the committee overseeing the Federal Reserve.

REP. JEB HENSARLING (R): Well, of course it's a mixed message. I mean, we have got a branch of the federal government arguably giving tacit approval to people who come here illegally.

WIAN: One hundred and fifty U.S. financial institutions have signed up for Directo a Mexico. The only I.D. required of customers is Mexico's matricula consular, widely used by illegal aliens.

DR. STEVEN CAMAROTA, CENTER FOR IMMIGRATION STUDIES: To control illegal immigration, it takes a lot of things. It takes the border. It takes going after employers. And you don't want to do stupid things, like making it easier for illegals to transfer money back and forth. So, you require proper identification whenever someone wants to transfer money out of the country. It's very simple. We could do it.

The Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank, which runs the Directo a Mexico program, says immigration laws are not its area of focus. The Mexican Central Bank this month announced, remittances from the United States have jumped nearly 20 percent so far this year, and are on pace to total $24 billion, smashing last year's record. Remittances are now neck-and-neck with oil as Mexico's second largest source of foreign revenue, behind only illegal drugs.

That the Fed is involved in this shouldn't surprise anyone.

The Fed is essentially a private enterprise (owned by commercial banks) with a "royal warrant", if you will, to generate and regulate the currency of the United States. By running a program such as this, the Fed is generating transaction flow, which in turn ultimately benefits its owners.

So the government eternally wants to tax law abiding US citizens more -- and make it easier for law breaking immigrants to bypass taxes! Nice!

The governments confusion here is in thinking that we're the sheep and they are the wolves.
It's similar to them thinking that they can `outlaw' the guns of law abiding Americans.
Congressional paychecks aren't funded by illegal aliens and they don't answer to illegals.

Is it possible in the near future that remittances to Mexico will start to go down?? The reason I ask is because they say thats what happened in Germany recently...So many Turks and their families made it to Germany and didn't have many people left in Turkey to send money back to anymore. Eventually there must be a tipping point here too. Probably once all the illegals are here. Sigh.

"Federal Reserve Expanding Program That Helps Mexican Illegal Aliens Send Money Home"

The Federal Reserve seems to be a back-door, unconstitutional government agency. The claim is that it's a 'private bank', even though its Chairman is hand picked by the President of the United States. How many other Banking industry Chairmen of the Board are installed by a politician?

Federal Reserve is not 100% Federal operation. They are roughly 50% private and 50% Federal. As such they aren't part of the Federal government. Check your White Pages and see if they are listed next to Federal agencies

Typically, when young Mexican men first come here, they have strong ties to their families and send lots of dinero home. But after they have been here a while, they find new girlfriends, get tired of living like monks, and start spending money on things like nice clothes, a new Shebby trucko and lots of Corona Lite.

That is why the Mexican government not only needs lots of Mexicans living in the US, but needs to constantly send more. To keep the flow of remittances up.

Ask King George and his cronies in Congress who allow the massive importation of slave labor that question. They're not worried about the millions of American families who are barely making it but are still forced to support that slave labor our "leaders" crave.

Uh, excuse me...fluff fluff.... but Janet has been a member of FR for 8 + years. I agree with JG vis a vis illegal immigration, as do most conservatives. So does Jim Robinson. Bush has been an abysmal failure on illegal immigration. Worse than that, he has openly promoted it since his time in office. He is STILL promoting it, against 77% of the American population. Don't make idle threats, pal! Janet lives in Southern California. I lived there for 30 years before I gave up on it, and left. We have 6 million plus illegals. Air your unintelligent comments and insults elsewhere!

Listen, "pal," I don't appreciate ANYONE calling the POTUS "King George." It's way more sarcastic than anything I've said. What threat are you referring to? Why do people like you insist that illegal immigration is Bush's fault? And you're calling ME stupid???

For your information, I was a welfare worker in San Antonio for 6 years, the 7th largest city in the country and sanctuary city to a good portion of the 20 million illegals that are "Bush's fault." Sure, I'd like to see him do something about it, but you darn sure ought to know better than blame him for it - that's what lieberals do, no matter how many years they've been on FR. Post off.

You're just full of insults, aren't you? First I'm a "troll", now I'm a "lieberal". You couldn't be more mistaken on both counts if you tried.

Am I "anti-pres"? Let's say I'm anti-illegal immigration, and the "pres" is one of its biggest enablers. Are you saying that no one is allowed to disagree with him on this board? He is the first American president in history who allowed an invasion by a third world country without firing a shot in our defense. What is there to admire about that?

I, along with millions of other Americans, will never vote for an open borders politician again, no matter which party they claim to "represent".

By the way, I also live in a "sanctuary city", and the results of it have been devastating to southern California.

All this "pres" had to do was to make some effort to enforce the existing immigration laws instead of rolling out the red carpet for Mexico. If he had made that effort, his respect ratings would have been higher than they are now, which I believe is somewhere in the 35% range. Americans are angry, and justifiably so.

Janet, did you see the recent, openly Mexican-Slanted History Channel portrayal of the Mexican-American War under President Polk? It did not have a scintilla of balance.

I have come to the conclusion after intensive review and assessment, and seeing the continuing glib-sounding inanities that flow out of Bush (which are not merely polite diplo-speak, but likely evidence some real guilt complexes), that he, and probably his entire clan, believe exclusively in the Revisionist anti-American brand of "history" preached in Mexico.

At the least, the Bush Clan must have figured that the only way to pacify the Mexican re-Conquista radicals down there is to surrender the borders and make one big country, hence the radicals of Mexico lose their cause 'celeb. In their warped thinking, it will make the issue of reconquista a non-issue...and permit Mexico to become a normal, less-disgruntled, region in the greater North American Union.

It won't work that way. Instead, it will destabilize all of North America. And potentially foment revolution. Particularly as they are all conducting themselves totally at the Executive level in extra-constitutional, unauthorized actions, without the legislatures...apparently in all three countries. They have no idea of the blow-back from this. And their disdain for that possibility of blow-back is just further evidence of an elitist and arrogant mindset that is frankly so detached from everyday American thinking that you might well have properly characterized it as "monarchial" thinking.

That being said, I do think we should endeavor to try and avoid the casual reiteration of the derogative terms employed by those clearly coined by our own internal Marxists. Not necessary. We need to make a clear distinction, so that they can't, under cover of the same language, enhance their influence. Granted, we are being betrayed (likely out of self-righteous "good intentions") but betrayed nontheless...and it does make all honest conservatives steaming mad. And entitled to be.

That doesn't mean, in calling a spade a spade, we can risk enabling the Marxists.

I haven't a clue what you're talking about...Atta and his bunch? Mexico illegals? Neither of these are third world countries. I didn't call anyone a lieberal or a troll, but merely pointed out some of their behaviors. Calling names is, again, something liberals do. You and the other half of your 'tag team' need to post when posted to. Speaking of which, let's both post off. I'm sure we have nothing of interest to say to each other.

I think the difference here is that Germany understood the problem that it created for itself with the guest workers and shut the faucet off. I don't think that as a Turk in 2006 you have a snowball's chance in hell of going to Germany as a guest worker.

With legal and illegal immigrants pouring into the United States at an uncontrolled rate (100,000 new Muslim immigrants a year under Bush's watch since 9/11) the faucet is still wide open.

I looked at the thread title again and decided we all got a little off topic. The fact that the gubmint wants to help illegals send money home astounds me.

MSM wants us to believe they're spending the money they earn here right at home. They are not. They are spending our tax dollars to sustain themselves, via welfare, food stamps and medicaid, and sending their dollars to Mexico.

But I think most of us already knew that. So now I will post off! LOL!

Interesting point.

There are millions of coinservatives who would pile into a class action suit seeking damages from 93 years of Fed-created inflation.

Illegal immigration just adds fuel to the fire.

There are solutions to the malfeasance of the Feds, but none are pretty. And since a rational discussion of these would apparently be off the table, I refrain, except on one of the methods:
Aside from the vote, what is the driving factor for politicians at the national level that is enabling this behavior? The clue is m-o-n-e-y.
Additionally, what segment of the population 'voluntarily complies' to subsidize much of these shenanigans? The clue here is t-a-x-p-a-y-e-r.
Now, what do you think happens if a confluence of the two clues mentioned above reaches a critical mass, in which one clue refuses to supply the other clue (aside from ninja-clad JBTs breaking down the doors of a few folks, which are highly televised, in order to cow the rest of one of the above mentioned clues into submission)?
