Dems have Kinky in the cross hairs

Blitz depicting him as racist aims to rally base; his camp slams effort

Chris Bell hasn't been able to coax rival Kinky Friedman out of the race for governor, but his fellow Democrats are preparing a media and campaign offensive against the independent, planning in part to portray him as a racist.

The blitz is aimed at not only stopping Mr. Friedman from poaching Mr. Bell's base voters but also at exciting Democrats who could determine the outcome of local races, as well as statewide contests.

"It's designed to fire up the base," state Sen. Royce West of Dallas, who will record radio ads criticizing Mr. Friedman, said Wednesday. "But just as important, it's an issue of respect."

In a 4-person race, the Democrat candidate for governor of Texas is running #4. So, how desperate are they?

So desperate that they're revving up their patented smear machine to attack #3 and hurling "racism" charges at Kinky Friedman -- of all people.

They're not trying to win -- with 14% support for Chris Bell in the last poll, the race is unwinnable. The Dems now fear getting wiped out in down ballot races because Kinky voters won't pull the lever for the Democrat slate.

So the Dems say Kinky can't win. They are afraid Perry will win because of split votes. Just shows you how stupid the Dem really are by going after someone who they believe will lose and not going after the likely winner. Sounds like a losing strategy to me.

Democrats could be planning to move one of their own into the gov mansion if they had a lick of sense. Perry's a disaster, and they couldn't do any better than dumb Bell.

I have not seen a poll on this race in quite sometime. Do you have a link that shows Bell in running 4th?

Sorry, but using Democrats, Kinky, and Crosshairs in the same sentence just strikes me as insanely funny.....

The last poll I saw was about a month ago. Perry was around 40%, Carole Keaton (your name goes here) Strayhorn was about 18%, Kinky 16% and Bell, the Democrat, running dead last with 14%.

I believe that in the end Bell will come in 2nd and Kinky will finish 4th. I have no basis for that feeling other than I think the democrats will come home on Nov. 7 and that means Kinky loses those votes. Also I'm not sure where the democrat money/supporters that supported Strayhorn will ultimately wind up. I think some of them may come back to Bell once they've decided that Strayhorn isn't hurting the Governor that much. Who knows but it will be an interesting 3+ weeks.

Early voting begins in 10 days, Oct. 23rd.

Perry will win by a landslide but I think Strayhorn will come in last. She made a fool of herself in the debate.

I think I saw one that showed Perry at 35%, One Nutty Grandma at 20%, Kinky at 20%, Bell around 16% and the Libertarian at less than 1%. I haven't heard anything about Kinky since the debate. I think he kind of showed himself as an empty hat, then.

Strayhorn ran the oddest campaign ad I've ever seen today. It showed a picture of her during her high school prom dancing with the Strayhorn guy, and saying they almost got married in high school, then showed them today hugging, and him saying, "It was worth the wait." It looked just like an eHarmony commercial.

I believe you are exactly right. In the end, some of Kinky's support will succumb to voter inertia. And the Dem money behind Grandma will return to the party -- in order to avoid an utter catastrophe down the ballot.

Still, tbe Democrat candidate for governor of Texas will be lucky to crack 25%...

Typical Dim lowlifes. When Democrats were voting against the Civil Rights bill and using fire hoses on blacks, Kinky was out there marching alongside them. Dems are filthy liars and hypocrites and have a U.S. Senator who's an avowed Klansman.

Speaking of commercials, have you seen Kinky's "Good Shepherd" spot.

While he delivers his lines with a straight face, I can't escape the feeling that Kinky is just playing a giant joke on us all...

FWIW, my parents have a ranch out in Colorado county. Amongst their friends out there, not one single soul is voting for Perry. This is about the most conservative group of folks you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. They are all voting for Kinky. People I hear talking at school, on my street, etc...also a very conservative district outside of Houston--all voting for Kinky. I think it just boils down to "anyone but Perry".

However, perhaps her commercial where she shows off her engagement ring will work with voters.
