Where I stand on Iraq ::Hillary Clinton to NY Daily News Editorial Board
NY Daily News ^ | October 12, 2006 | Hillary Clinton

Posted on 10/12/2006 4:45:18 PM PDT by Cincinna

Sen. Clinton says how Bush went wrong and offers her prescription for the war.

Clinton met with the Daily News Editorial Board yesterday. These comments are excerpted from her remarks.

"We have to deal with the Iraq we have, not the Iraq we wish we had. And the Iraq we have is a deteriorating, violent conflict that, if not technically a civil war, is about as close as you can get.

Having been now on the Armed Services Committee for more than 3½ years, the uniformed military has tried to be respectful of the chain of command. They've been unwilling to contradict the secretary of defense when he said, "Well, nobody's asked me for more troops." I mean, it's just flat-out untrue. It's been untrue for years.

There are three big things that need to happen..."

"I mean, it's just flat-out untrue." That about says it all about the ability of the "smartest woman in the world TM" to argue a position and make a point clearly.

Stand for nothing , believe in nothing ,try to appeal to all. Is this any way to run for the presidency?

Read this and be frightened.

The thought that the American voters might make this old Commie Commander-in-Chief makes me want to weep for the military.

There are certain groups of the Iraqis that will fight, but the vast majority of the 350,000 are not prepared to stand up and fight for Iraq. They might stand up and fight for their tribe or for their family or for their religious affiliation. And that's not going to change unless they have to face the reality that, guess what, we are going to start, what we call, in the Democratic alternative, a phased redeployment.

Now, that doesn't mean initially, out of Iraq. It could be just moving to the North, because I do think we have an extra obligation to the Kurds not to desert them once again. It could certainly mean just over the horizon in Kuwait. But what we've been doing is not working.

WTF?

What kind of logic is she employing? First she argues there aren't enough troops in Iraq, then she says we need to move our troops to Kuwait or up north by the Kurds (at least she didn't suggest Guam). Maybe I just don't understand such complicated, nuanced reasoning?

Sounds like the classic double feint cut and run maneuver to me. Used successfully by French Armies for decades.

Hey, Hildabeast, check with your pal John al-Murtha, I hear he has brilliant plan to redeploy to Okinawa..... this keeps all our forces a mere 5,000 miles from Iraq in case of emergency while guaranteeing that our relations with Okinawans and the Japanese gov't will melt down. That's what I call a Demagogue two-fer!!!

What in hell does this woman know about respect? She has no respect for the military from the top on down and she deserves none for herself.

Hillary's contempt and treatment of the military brings up an important issue. If, God forbid, she were elected, would the military follow her? Her popularity among the active military, veterans, and military families is rock-bottom low.

The only substantive bit of real policy in this silly screed is the formation of an oil trust. She seems to feel it will assure the Iraqis that the oil companies aren't in charge of something or other - she doesn't specify - and that it will guard against the paying out of oil profits to a "ruling elite" although how it will do that she also doesn't say.

This is a perfect example of Democrats attempting to combine a complaint about the status quo with wishful thinking about better results and pass it off as policy. It isn't.

If Hitlery becomes president she will try to make our military be her own personal force. Their first and foremost charge will be to protect her. That's all she cares about.

draw a line on the ground...she will put a stumpy cankle on each side of it....if she had more stumps she would try to be on 4 sides of the issue....with the piaps just like her husband (in name only ) bj....it depends on what poll has been taken and who her audience is...of course..she is a lib/dem socialist and again like bj...always on the wrong side of every issue!!!!

What vision! What substance! What clear thinking!

This PIAPS is an empty suit. Her debate against GOP candidate John Spencer on October 29 will further flush her out as a weak speaker and debater.

Infortunately, it will only be broadcast on Time Warner NY1, a local cable channel.

Their website http://www.NY1.com/ has live stream audio so you can all follow along.

Anyone have the latest poll numbers on this race>

Schumer won his race with 73% and Spitzer is polling at 63%. To be nominee for POTUS she must equal or surpass that.

If she had as many positions on Iraq as she has in bed maybe her and Bill would see each other more often.
