UN Security Council to work on Iran sanctions next week.

  • USA Today reported that the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council agreed Tuesday to start working on U.N. sanctions against Iran next week.
  • Henri Sokolski, The Wall Street Journal reported that while the US filed a United Nations resolution condemning the test and calling for the naval interdiction of North Korean vessels and the freezing of the outlaw state's financial assets. It's unclear if this will fly with the other members of the Security Council.

 

Ahmadinejad blames the media.

  • TerraNet reported that the Islamic Republic's hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has blamed the media for rising inflation.

 

Its official: Rafsanjani to run for Assembly of Experts.

  • Reuters reported that former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has registered to run in the elections for a powerful clerical body, The Assembly of Experts which have the power to appoint, supervise and dismiss the Supreme Leader.

 

Islamic Regime considers moving the capital.

  • Iran Press News reported that the regime officials are seriously considering moving the capital from the city of Tehran. The likelyhood of huge casualties in an earthquake is one of the reasons for the recommended move.

 

Family raises bail for student leader Ahmad Batebi, so the "Judge" triples it.

  • Iran Press News reported that the students’ committee of human rights reporters announced that due to the regime’s typical vicious obstructionism, student leader Ahmad Batebi who had been re-arrested on July 29th, remains in prison, despite a bail agreement that should have been posted for a 48 hour furlough.

 

The art of Middle East negotiation.

  • The Jerusalem Post examined what he calls "bazaar diplomacy" in the Middle East. In the bazaar only the stupid buyer pays for something he has yet to see. A must read.

  • Iran Press News reported that poor Iranian women, forced into prostitution, have become the target of a series of brutal murders in Tehran.
  • The Jerusalem Post reported that Iran and Indonesia plan to discuss cooperation in nuclear technology for nonmilitary purposes.
  • Iran Press News reported that Turkish police rounded up a group of Iranian refugees on Monday, and bussed them right back into the claws of the Islamic Republic border patrol.
  • Iran Press News reported that Habibollah Sheikhzadeh, the Afghan sculptor has declared that should the [Afghan] government extend their support and cultural heritage organizations and their experts in restoration of sculpture offer their cooperation, that he would reconstruct the 2 Buddhas of Bamiyan that were destroyed by the Taliban.
