Anna Politkovskaya's daughter is under constant guard
Caucasian Knot ^ | 10/16/2006 | Caucasian Knot

The daughter of Anna Politkovskaya, the murdered "Novaya Cazeta's" journalist, is under constant guard. On the day when her mother was shot dead, Vera was sitting in a car parked near the house and could probably see the killer. The available videos have his unclear images, therefore, the only investigation's hope is on Vera, the "Komsomolskaya Pravda" asserts.

Anna Politkovskaya's murder investigation is considering three main versions: a vengeance of the militiamen who found themselves, after her publications, in prison or search; a conspiracy of the opponents of Vladimir Putin and Chechen Premier Kadyrov; and also a vengeance of former militants who have went over to the federal side. Besides, Politkovskaya could be killed by Russian nationalists, since her name was on the "execution list" compiled by the leaders of fascist-like movements, the NEWSru.com informs.

We remind you that Anna Politkovskaya, "Novaya Gazeta's" journalist, murdered on Saturday October 7, a little past 4 p.m. in the doorway of her apartment block in Moscow's Lesnaya Street, was famous, first of all, for her articles on Chechnya and North Caucasus.

USA prepared to investigate murder of Politkovskaya

The US State Department does not rule out the possibility of the Russian party inviting American experts for the investigation of the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, stated Sean McCormack, official US State Department representative on October 11. It also became known yesterday that the American embassy in Moscow is now considering the possibility of such cooperation. Anna Politkovskaya was born in the USA and, apart from being a Russian subject, was also an American citizen.

The press-service of the US embassy in Moscow informed the "Nezavisimaya Gazeta" newspaper correspondent that "in conformance with American legislation, the embassy is prepared to provide the necessary consular services to Politkovskaya's relatives." They noted that the Russian authorities, so far, "have not applied to the Russian party for assistance in the investigation."

Anna Politkovskaya, "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper correspondent, was killed on Saturday, October 7, in Moscow. Politkovskaya was primarily known by her materials related with Chechnya and North Caucasus. The last interview in her life, given almost an hour before the murder to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was also devoted to the Chechen problems.

Even though many of us have fantasized about certain journalist biting the big one, this whole thing stinks of a Commie KGB plot. I hope someone gets to the bottom of this before it becomes fashionable to kill bloggers and such in this country.

Ah yes, the Nationalist groups. Want to bet that the NBP or the Nashi had something to do with this? Or the KPRF?

Everyone in the West is calling it a KGB plot, but in Russia they have a very good idea who did it.

According to Russian analytist Vladimir Pozner, the murder of Anna Politkovskaya unfortunately means little to most of the Russian people. She was a semi-popular journalist (among liberals) about 5-10 years ago. Today, only one out of five can even recognize her name. Also, public opinion polls and the stock market both show that the Russian nation has largely gone on with business as usual even after the murder of Vice Finance Minister Andrei Kozlov just a few weeks ago. It is a very sad truth, but Russians are busy getting on with their lives, and they are used to prominent people getting killed now and then, and they don't have as much time as the Washington Post to stress about these things. I know this sounds cold and rude, but that's what it is. Western media reaction has been absolutely overblown and has often accused the Russia government without any evidence of being involved in this assassination. No one mentions that many more journalists were murdered during the "liberal and democratic" Yeltsin years than during Putin's administration.

The two main suspects likely are:

1. Colonel Yuri D. Budanov found guilty of murdering a Chechen girl. He was exposed due to the reporting of Anna. His commander threatened to take care of anybody who harmed his colonel. The colonel is now in prison.

2. Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov. Anna was doing a report on Kadyrov at the time of her murder.

Seems like Putin had the hit done, but had it done by one of the nationalist or neo-Stalinist orgs.

"On the day when her mother was shot dead, Vera was sitting in a car parked near the house and could probably see the killer."

The writer of THAT line, must be trying to set the daughter up for her own murder.....

Or, are the Russian authorities setting up to hunt over a baited field?
