It Is Time For Christians To Leave The Republican Party
Chattanoogan.com ^ | 10/17/2006 | Greg Cain

Posted on 10/17/2006 5:49:07 AM PDT by Hadean

"Jesus wasn’t riding an elephant into town" There would probably be more believers if more Christians thought this way. I am grateful for the many GOP leaders have done to fight for Christian values in America. Although fine Americans such as Billy Graham,Dr. D. James Kennedy Tony Evans, Joel Osteen, Don Wildmon, Dr. D. James Kennedy, Tony Perkins, Phyllis Schlafly, T.D. Jakes, James Dobson, Franklin Graham, John Hagee, Pat Robertson, Ron Parsaly, Ron Phillips and others have fought the fight as well for the pro-family movement. We all have scars to prove it.

But it is time to build an ark. It is time to leave the Republican Party.

I know that seems like a radical move. But it has become increasingly apparent that the core values of the Republican Party are not Tennessean or Christian values. The Mark Foley Branch of the Log Cabin Republicans has seen to that.

The Republican Party has had success convincing Christians that their party actually is more moral and more sincerely religious than the Democrats. However, the events of the last year have begun to unravel that carefully constructed image. It is time all Christians to ask ourselves if it is possible for God to bless a polluted party.

Make no mistake, the Republican Party is polluted. I have found that out locally here in Bradley County. It's obvious to me that both the Republicans and the leaders of the Religious Right are contemptuous of rank and file conservative Christians, not each other. By forming a new party we cast a new direction united and committed to do the work together. I fear the Mark Foley scandal is only a small part of the problem.

So now is the time to form our own party. It is exactly what this country needs at a time like this, controlling spending, undoing and preventing liberal damage, and presenting a noble and honest agenda. While we still have the influence to do it we must take action. Remember how quickly people got behind Ross Perot? Can’t our Christian leaders like a Ron Phillips do the same? We have the resources and the network. It is time to stop wasting them on Republicanism, even at the local level.

There's a vacuum to be filled in the evangelical leadership by preachers and leaders who eschew worldly, political power for its own sake. The world has gotten smaller. The power of the internet has changed the way Americans communicate. With one click of a mouse, millions can be alerted to truth. A network of churches and ministries already exists. We can override the lunacy of television ads, without spending a dime.

If we focus now on 2008, here is how we can do it:

· Begin now to build the network of partnerships of those who espouse Christian values. Much of it is already in place.

· Draft a quality Christian leader as the 2008 presidential candidate. One that has proven his mettle. We begin working for this election now. Work to get them on the ballot in all fifty states. Stay out of the Republican primary. Build a war-chest for the general election.

· Begin a training program for future candidates in Constitutional government as it relates to God-ordained freedoms. Train up men who will not compromise for personal gain. Courageous men who stand in the face of the anti-god establishment. Men who will restore Constitutional government. Men in the tradition of Madison and Washington. In two years we will have a group of God-fearing men to run in local races.

· Hire experts to create PAC’s that will support the candidates giving opportunities for Christians to donate to Godly candidates, rather than compromised Republicans. Thumb your nose at the IRS. Would Jesus be silent on the great moral issues of the day because he was afraid of losing His tax-exempt status?

· Give no money to Republican or Democratic candidates - only those who join the new party.

· Offer current, God-fearing officials an alternative to status quo politics, and offer an alternative party for them to join.

Things are not looking good for Republicans. It is time to abandon ship, to build an ark, to raise the standard. Republicanism is making Christianity look bad. The Republican leadership mocks us and throws crumbs from the table during election years.

America needs bold new leadership. Christians still have the influence to pull it off. But we must be willing to give up our ceremonial seat at the Republican table? With leadership comes responsibility and the Lord will hold us all accountable for the compromising of His standards.

The detractors will tell us a third-party can’t win, that we will only divide the vote, that Hillary will be president. She might well be. I say God will do something great if we honor His name and His ways. Matthew 19:6 "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

So, America, who will you choose to believe?

And it's way past time for Christians to leave the Democrat Party, or forget the phony notion that one can be a follower of Jesus and vote for killing babies, homosexual marriage, and taking from the wage-earner to give to the indolent. This writer obviously avoided that part of the story, and thus becomes suspect as part of the msm conservative vote-suppression scheme. There will be countless others before Nov. 7.

No serious missteps in the "lingo," so this isn't a leftist Sojourner, hiding under the mantle of Christianity. He doesn't seem to think that we're delaying the Apocalypse, like K. A. Paul, either. Sounds like an advocate for the Constitution Party. Wonder why he doesn't come right out and say that?

It would be so much smarter for Evangelicals to vote third party or Democrat. /sarcasm

They can live with the partial birth abortion results. The support for pedophiles. The cut and run policy and gutting our military. Maybe they'll actually enjoy paying higher taxes. Wearing a burka. Having the homosexual agenda taught to their children in public schools.

I say go for it. They're whining about not getting everything they want in life and in politics is really childish.

I don't know who this is or what his motives are, but I expect this is something we will see often in the upcoming weeks. The media/DEMs love to plant these kind of stories to try to force the results they wanted from the Foley story but did not get.

No Christian or conservative is going to allow Democrats - the leaders of the anti-christian movement - to come to power because some knob tried to hit on an 18-21 yr old kid. I expect to see all kinds of these popping up in local newspapers. It's part of the DEM stomp out the vote drive. IT's pathetic that the Democrats think the only way they can come ot power is to lower our turnout rather than trying to put forth an agenda and being elected because the people actually want that agenda.

The have none, and we won't support it. Hence, they have no agenda other than get back into power and make decisions based on their "feelings" that particular day or based on whose chewing their ear and threatning to not vote for them. Apologies to this guy if it's heart felt, but not biting...if God wanted us to build an Ark, he'd let us know...don't you think? And not from a guy named "Cain"

I'm not exactly a one-issue person, but Abortion is a big deal for me. If I vote Republican, I cannot be sure that Roe will ever be overturned. But -- if I vote for ANYONE other than a Republican, I KNOW that Roe will be maintained.

As a Christian, I will vote Republican, every time, every race, until such time as I see a better way to fight abortion.

This article doesn't even mention the word, so I'm not on the same page at all.

This is more Rev. Walis BS to trying a co-op conservatives out of the republican party by false assumptions.

A national political party created in mere months and being on the ballot in 50 states AND have a credible candidate in time for the 2008 presidential race??? Pfft.

This article would be more credible if the author hadn't relied on the Foley case as the fulcrum for his treatise. Also, what about calling on all the Catholics to leave the Donky Party. How can Catholics be Democrats who support abortion??

It isn't nearly so simple as the author wishes it was.

There are two types of conservatives: religious conservatives and libertarian conservatives. I've been pretty hard on certain of my Christian brethren lately, as there is this trend to use the government's power to do Christian charity, which is wrong. There's no reason why we, as Christians, should be promoting censorship, more government spending on education, or a number of other things. The purpose of government is to protect the rights of individuals, and none of these things do that. Now, abortion should be illegal; that's one that the bigger govt Christians have gotten right. It would protect the rights of defenseless children.

In any case, such things as censorship have no place. If we don't like indecent material (and we most emphatically don't) then the way we deal with that is to go into the community and explain sin, good, and evil and why this stuff is wrong. Leave govt to do what it was intended to do.

Unfortunately, however, the big govt Christians are running things as far as Christian conservatives go. And the libertarian wing of the party has wrongly decided that all Christian conservatives are nanny staters and is going to run all of us off. This will spell doom for the GOP in coming elections and will give us a government that satisfies no one, except the drive by media. And while certain elements of the party have legitimate grievances with certain other elements of the party, of they think they can still win elections by standing around and comparing a large percentage of the base to the Taliban, they're sadly mistaken. Ultimately, our master is not government, or a political party, but our God.

I've written a long post on blog linked here on FR on the subject. It's too long to repost in its entirety, but this is essentially the gist of it.

Just the thoughts of someone who's both in the evangelical and small government camps. If I were to run for president, I don't think either camp would vote for me. Evangelicals would be mad about me not supporting FCC censorship and 'vice' taxes on things like cigarettes and increases in education spending. The libertarians wouldn't support me because I'd be coming down hard on abortion and a few other select social issues.

Do you believe local communities have the right to "community standards?"

I have a problem with the federal government/courts telling local communities they have to put up with a strip joint in the middle of their small town.

Communities should be able to determine their own standards by a majority vote, as long as it doesn't infringe on the civil rights of individuals. And....ummmmmmm..... I don't believe that dancing naked around a pole is protected free speech. :) I used the above example, but it extends to a lot more than strip joints, obviously.
