Kerry: Bush assurance on Iraq a blunder

By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer 19 minutes ago

Democratic Sen. John Kerry said Tuesday that President Bush committed "a gigantic blunder" by giving top Iraqi officials assurances that U.S. forces would remain indefinitely in the war-torn country.

Kerry argued that his 2004 rival should have pressured Iraqi leaders to set aside their differences and focus on making progress in assuming responsibility for security, a move that could lead to a reduction in U.S. troop levels.

"The absence of pressure I find is an enormous blunder that gives the Iraqi politicians a free pass to continue the status quo that most Americans understand is a failure, that's not working," Kerry said. "I'm amazed by it."

Kerry is a possible 2008 presidential candidate. He spoke to reporters after appearing at a campaign event with Iowa gubernatorial candidate Chet Culver.

The Massachusetts senator was responding to Bush's 15-minute telephone conversation Monday with the Iraqi prime minister. Bush called Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to quell rumors that the United States planned to set a deadline for Iraqis to assume security responsibilities. In his conversation, Bush said there was no deadline and that American troops would remain as long as they were needed.

Bush's comments can be compared to his "bring it on" challenge to terrorists, Kerry said.

"I think the president committed a gigantic blunder of the proportion of 'Bring it on,' " said Kerry.

This communist piece of crap is a joke. Can you imagine what it would have been like for the last 2 years if he had been elected in 2004? Nightmare on Elm Street.

Senator Kerry is absolutely right, as usual. The occupation of Iraq is unwinnable, just as General Macarthur said that a contemplated occupation of North Korea would be unwinnable in 1951. The example of the American occupation of the Phillippines beginning in 1897 and continuing to the present day is also instructive to history buffs.

How can you call him "right as usual" when he voted FOR this "unwinnable" war?

Oh, I know, he was wrong before he was right.

I hope you have a burkha in your closet Mom, because if the Democrats win, you'll have about three years before you're forced to wear one.

That is, if you aren't blown up by then.

Quick Question, oh brilliant one...when is an occupation an occupation and when is it not?

Japan, post WWII was an occupation.
Germany, post WWII was an occupation, and then it was not...eventhough we still have troops based there today.

I think you need to brush up on your military history and strategy before making assertions.

Iraq is not an occupation, troops along the SoKo DMZ is not an occupation...

GET A CLUE!

Moby? Is that you?

Punk the prez? - Moby's anti-Bush tricks (New York Daily News ^ | 2/09/04 | Rush & Molloy )

One of Sen. John Kerry's celebrity supporters is ready to pull out all the stops to get him elected. Republicans are shrieking over a suggestion by rocker Moby that Democrats spread gossip about President Bush on the Internet. "No one's talking about how to keep the other side home on Election Day," Moby tells us. "It's a lot easier than you think and it doesn't cost that much. This election can be won by 200,000 votes." Moby suggests that it's possible to seed doubt among Bush's far-right supporters on the Web.

"You target his natural constituencies," says the Grammy-nominated techno-wizard. "For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you're an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion.

"Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, 'What's all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?'"

Moby didn't claim that he believed the abortion story.

His premise is WRONG. He assumes the Iraqi government and people will continue to WANT us there indefinitely. He discounts the notiont that maybe (gasp!) they will want to become independent.

And as usual, he fails to consider the effects of such an assurance on the terrorists, ergo "No matter how long it takes, you will lose."

#18...

You pretty much nailed it. When it comes to predicting behaviors the Dems get it wrong pretty much all the time. Here are a few of the more glaring examples:

1. The rich will just hoard their tax cut
2. Muslim fundamentalist would never partner with secularists
3. A welfare mom would never have another child just to make the check go up

I am beginning to think Bortz is right. Liberalism is a mental disorder. It basically renders the individual incapable of engaging in reasonable cause and effect analysis based on historical models and a realistic understanding of the nature of man.

In the last three Presidential elections, the Dems have offered up a skunk, a delusional fool and an arrogant boob.

And they want us to take them seriously...

You forgot the occupation of Germany and Japan.

No I didn't. Germany and Japan were occupied only after a long war of several years had been fought and won, with their leaders formally surrendering. In Iraq there has been no formal surrender by the former government and the occupation was handled incompetently by morons in the Bush administration from Day One.

You don't agree with Bush's decisions to invade with underwhelming force and to disband the Iraqi army shortly after the invasion in 2003, do you?

Underwealming force kicked the shit out of their army in 10 days and toppled the government! The Iraqi army after seeing how we slaughtered them mostly went AWOL. Its funny how libs like you will give FDR 4 years to get 405,000 men killed and he is considered great! Truman 3 years to get 57,000 men killed and he is great! Kennedy to get us into Vietnam, Johnson to escalated and Blame Nixon for loosing it (when it was all the libs fault) signing a peace agreement and blame him for the entire war and 50,000 killed, yet Bush is a "failure" after 4 years and less dead in a war than was killed in the first 90 mins of 9/11. You jackasses are going to have a real hard lesson in life when The world truly is at war and it can't be won before the next commerical on the See BS nightly news! But then again Libs never gave a crap about their country, only bitch about it!

You have said you consider the Bush administration and the leaders of our military to be Christofascist terrorists.

You are a leftist scumbag with an advanced--and hilarious--case of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Don't you know you are a laughingstock here? Do you think anyone takes you seriously, moonbat?
